Thinking about something..

He probably had them BEFORE dying.

Like you said,Jonas now is evil, but in the first mansion he wasn't like this.
They changed the whole story, and made it lose the sense.
Like,Ludmilla and Sophilia just left, and a random daughter appeared with a poof.
What's the next year one, another daughter?
Strange is that Jonas keeps reproducing even after dying, the little boy is his younger son, that died when he was a child due to a disease.
The twist at the end of the first mansion story was that everyone was already dead - Sophilia, Jonas, Ludmilla, Edmunds, everyone was dead. They lived in the time before Masteria disappeared, back when NLC was still Old Sappe Village. That means that for Olivia to be Jonas's daughter she also had to be from that time, which similarly means that Steward and Joe must also be dead. The question then becomes "Why weren't they there before? Shouldn't the ghosts of everyone who lived there be there all the time?"

Yes.
Looks like they've implemented 1/2 of the story.

I've noticed this as well. I wasn't here for last Halloween's event, but I was playing during the first Halloween storyline. I was disappointed as well, because I actually liked what they did with their quests. I was waiting before saying anything, in hopes that there was some long dialogue after getting Olivia's chair that explains things a bit more.

They didn't think it through at all. The story seems like it took less than 5 minutes to write up.

Nexon writer 1:
Okay, so there's this evil girl. But she's cute and stuff, when you first see her. She asks you to help her Daddy get out of the haunted house. But he's too scared! So you help him out, but he has OCD and wants you to talk to the butler dude. You talk to him and he tells you to talk to the evil mastermind that is Jonas! Only after you help this evil spirit out are you able to face Olivia in combat!

Nexon writer 2: Oh, but where's the plot twist?

Nexon writer 1: Oh, right. Olivia is Jonas's daughter that died of starvation or something. He probably raped her too, caus he's evil like that.

Nexon writer 2: Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Okay, I'm off to go get coffee.

Nexon writer 1: Ah, but our lunch break isn't for 4 hours.

Nexon writer 2: Well, we've finished for the day, right?

Nexon writer 1: Ah, you're correct.

Nexon writers 1 and 2 proceed to exit the building, holding hands and skipping giddily. A page sits on the table with their "storyline" sloppily sketched all over it. A chilling breeze flows through the open window and lifts the page in a rather unnatural fashion. It's almost as if it were being raised, rather than flowing freely with the air. As the page raises in the air, it comes to a sudden stop. A few moist droplets fall on the page, a faint sound of sobbing echos throughout the empty room. A figure slowly fades into existence. A transparent figure of the dead toymaker. He holds the page up, reading the lines over and over as he continues to sob.

Ghost of Jonas: Oh Olivia! What have they done to you?

With that, he fades away once again, vanishing into thin air. The paper slowly falls down onto the floor. The opened window shuts closed, and the room is left in silence once again.

Joe didn't even look like he was from the same time period as the other ghosts, assuming that he's also dead.

You just said exactly what happened!
Surely, they were lazy enough to write a small and nonsense storyline.

Oh yeah! The Old Sappe Village reference! Another thing which made that storyline be just AWESOME. I mean, come on. Not only did they come up with a great storyline, but they also made a reference to a place which existed in the Masteria of the past. I'm sure that something like that won't happen anymore with this "new storyline writer" (I'm 99% positive it's not the one who wrote the first storyline). Expecially for event quests. I'm also pretty sure that the CWK storyline was written by the same person who wrote the Mansion's one, and that the CWK expansion (CWKPQ and the Keep) was released without quests because that person probably was already gone and there wasn't anyone who could write a decent storyline for it.

This is just a supposition, but.. who knows. I might be right.

Congratulations, you just wrote a storyline which is better than Olivia's one (well, ANY storyline would be better than that Tongue).

You're officially even better than NEXON at writing storylines. And you probably came up with it in less than 1 minute.

Off topic: I request a thread title change. I'd like my thread to be named "NEXON and storylines" or "NEXON's storylines", so that maybe a NEXON worker who reads this forum will actually read it.

I've been saying for years that Masteria lacked imagination or decent story telling, especially when compared to other areas in different versions of MapleStory, but this expansion takes the cake.

I think Nexon America figured out already that most maplers just click through the boxes and only want collectible items to show off in Henesys, and don't really have to focus on the content at all. Of course, the loyal Maplers that care about story continuity are the ones that get screwed over.

Nexon most likely is shuffling through writers at the moment. There was a short piece in the Official PlayStation Magazine, where one of their article writers or something was leaving the mag to work on MapleStory for Nexon, for GMS. Seeing as she was already working at a magazine as a writer (i think), then it may be safe to assume that they are indeed shuffling their writers when it comes to storylines and such.

And I am seriously contemplating going to Nexon HQ and seeing about a job myself Rolleyes might bring some good to all out of it.

Yeah, I think that's probably the reason behind the poor storylines made from NEXON lately.

Most people I know don't even care about reading stuff in the quests..

I see. Thanks for the information.

Also, do it: go to NEXON's HQ, and try to get a job.. would be great to have a NEXON worker on SP.. xD

But I know it's kinda hard to get hired there.. I wonder if you can ask questions about their games there.. like Tespia, Masteria or this. I've always wondered how their building looked like and how their offices are. I live in Italy, so you can understand that it's totally different here. Tongue1

Do they even allow people to enter there? Hurt

The problem is that, this story is completely different from the past one.
Jonas in the first one,was just a sad father, that got his daughter accidentally killed by the machine, and wanted to leave the house without those evil monsters made by the machine after her death, and ludmilla and sophilia were the ones that may help you to investigate it,the little boy, which wasn't explained in GMS,was explained in KMS as his son, that died when a child, due to a disease, and that needed peace, that's why you had to visit his tomb.
Now,Jonas is the villain of the house, sophilia and ludmilla disapeared,Olivia is a random daughter that appeared, and Joe is a non explained character in this?
Okay, seriously, they should pay attention to the first story, this one is totally different, and way worse, plus, jonas asks you to kill his own creations,if he was the villain,he wouldn't ask you to destroy his own creatures, either goes to olivia.

That just shows how little do they care, that is. They didn't inform the new story writer correctly about the full old story and he probably had to rush it as well, and that's why it's like this.

Indeed the first storyline took more time to make than this one.

Yes,that's what it really looks like.
Looks like they paid someone to create a storyline for the mansion, and didn't inform him about the original one.

I was kinda dissappointed reading this now. I kinda thought HH II would have a decent storyline, but this makes me sad. I wasn't here for the first release, and the second one seemed lame to me. I read about the 1st one and was amazed an sad that I had missed it. Now they release this next one and tell us that everything I read in that old thing was wrong.

Hell, half the stuff doesn't even make sense, such as why you need to bring tombstones to Jonas to prove you're serious (which was insanely hard by the way, since the JQ to reach Jonas is now covered in auto-aggro monsters with magic attacks). The whole key thing was decent, but the OCD thing was pathetic. Why would you care about a tidy room if YOUR ABOUT TO DIE BY EVIL TOYS? Then Jonas was really rather evil, and I thought that maybe, just maybe, his ghost had somehow been corrupted by the evil in the house, maybe like the evil of the toys began to reverse corrupt him. Then it just moves it on to how the butler will let you into do him a favor. I thought that perhaps it had been something like "Olivia is possessed by evil, so you need to defeat her to rescue her." But no, it has to be some crap like "Jonas was a horrible father, so she died." The chair I can't even explain, but I'll get it anyway because I'm a damn chair whore.

This was the first story.
Characters involved:
Jonas,Ludmilla,Sophillia,Old man Tom,(The young boy ghost/Not mentioned,just added as a random obj),Edward.
Jonas was Ludmilla's husband, was a toymaker, had Sophillia as a daughter, and his friend is old man tom.
Sophillia died in the Machine, after her death,he feels depressed and locks himself inside the toy room, after her death, the machine started to make evil toys.
The quests involved Edward, the buttler, that helped you to discover it's story,Agent Marco, which was investigating paranormal activity,Sophillia, etc.
After the last quest is done, sophillia, jonas and ludmilla did rest in peace.
The little boy wasn't mentioned, but according to KMS,it was Jonas' son, that died due to a disease, and never did rest in peace,he only calms down and stops to haunt the house, after visiting his tomb and helping him.
Now,suddenly, another daughter appears,Marco,Tom,Ludmilla and Sophillia disapeared,Jonas turned into the really evil villain,Edward is now Steward.
Joe appears from nowhere, which is never explained,Steward asks you for Tombstones to proof that you're serious,Olivia is evil, but it asks you to destroy her own bad partners, then it wants Sophillia doll for nothing, and to reveal a random room with evil Olivia inside, and after beating her,you get a chair.
So,can you guys make a relation between one and another?
No,i presume.

This storyline would have been better with at least Sophilia's ghost in it and somehow talking about Olivia.

What was the storyline for Halloween 2008? I'm talking about the PQ. Or was it just a random PQ added?

What is the question to the mirror which is answered by typing in 'Olivia'? I was rushing through that part. ;x

We were talking about it in my buddy chat and here's what we came to:
Jonas was married multiple times; this was a fact of the old story. Ludmilla was not Sophilia's mother, but simply Jonas's current wife. Thus, maybe Olivia and Sophilia were only half-sisters? They had different mothers.
So, who's Joe then? Well, let's look at his name, versus her father's name: Joe and Jonas. Joe could easily be a shortened form of Jonas, right? Perhaps, then, Joe is how Olivia remembered Jonas; in that case, Joe is simply a fragment of Olivia's memories. The KMS version of the mansion (parts of which were integrated in via 2008's event) uses the Masked Gentleman as a man who can conjure lost memories to life. That could be what's going on now.

The other option is that Joe would be a stepfather who married Olivia's real mother.

Using this excuse you could also claim that the "evil" Jonas isn't the real Jonas from version 1 but Olivia's twisted memories of him. Angsty teens always make their parent's the villain after all and having a good/evil version fulfills that love/hate relationship dynamic.

Or we can just stick with C) Nexon doesn't care; this was written by monkeys and caters to the nx-consuming give-me-something-to-show-off Henesys-whores who wouldn't know a plot if they were sodomized with it.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Um... If CWKPQ was so rushed, why is there still no door in the Courtyard months later? If they really intended making one, they probably should have by now. -.-

Masteria is the only reason I keep track of Maplestory now. If it sucks, I'm gone.
