Could it be that.. the person who wrote the storyline for the GMS exclusive quests left NEXON and was replaced with someone else?
"Why do you think that?" one may ask.
The reason is simple. I noticed that lately, NEXON is getting worse with writing decent storylines.
An example we can make are the Halloween quests. Last year there wasn't a storyline AT ALL in the Haunted House. This year, there is a very short storyline, which even doesn't make much sense to me. Olivia is a NPC and asks you for some items to help her. Then there aren't any more quests. Then you see Jonas (I was hoping for something like this.. a "revival" of the old storyline of Jonas Prendergast) who asks you for some items, then nothing. After you do that quest, Steward takes you to Olivia's Secret Room (why does he ask for you to do that quest to enter? Asking for a key which was only given from the Jonas' Presence 3 quest would've been a more reasonable way to do it.. than just making Steward say: "You need to complete the Jonas' Presence 3 quest to enter").
Then you enter a room and have to fight with Olivia. What kind of crap is this? Why does Olivia suddendly transform in a monster and you have to defeat her? Or, why is there another Olivia in the house, which is a monster?
We don't know. And that's where the storyline stops making sense. After that, nothing. I still haven't done the Olivia chair quest, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't make the storyline have more sense than it already has.
So yeah. Poorly-made storyline, anyone? I do know this is an event and probably they didn't spend much time on it because they had to test all the other stuff in this patch, but I think that if they had to make a storyline, it should at least be a good one. If I'm missing something, tell me, please. Because, to me, this storyline doesn't make sense, and if a storyline doesn't make sense it isn't a storyline anymore.
Also, they made Jonas look like a monster, who just wants to make evil toys to scare people, etc., but he isn't like that. Those who did the quests and know the Prendergast storyline probably know that he is like that because her daughter (Sophylia) died in an accident and he went mad for that reason. Because of that, he closed himself in his toy workshop, and died some days after. After he died, the toy machine started pumping out evil toys, like if it absorbed his soul after dying. Because he was sad and angry for her daughter's loss, the machine became "evil" and started creating evil toys. This kinda makes sense to me.
Now, let's go back to 2007. One of the best Halloween storylines MapleStory has ever had. Not only were there lots of interesting quests, storyline and equips-wise (e.g.: toymaker equips), but the storyline was just great. The quests were indeed more than 15 and they gave you good rewards and such. Last year there were two expiring hats. One of which gave you 10 attack. This year, there's a chair. Better than expiring items, but still..
NEXON used to write really good storylines for the GMS-exclusive quests, but now.. for some reason, they don't anymore.
Too bad, I was and still am really interested in reading good storylines in MapleStory.. even if many people could say that it's stupid to look forward to interesting storylines in MapleStory, I think that there still are many nice quests with good storylines. An example is Aran, one of the jobs with more storyline of the entire MapleStory after the Knights of Cygnus.
tl;dr: NEXON doesn't write good storylines anymore. An example are this Halloween's Quests, which have a little of storyline, but there's a certain point where it starts not making sense anymore, at least to me. Last year we didn't even get a storyline for Halloween.. so yeah. Compared to 2007 Halloween quests, this Halloween's are nearly nothing.
