Thinking about something.. - Combattente - 2009-10-25 Could it be that.. the person who wrote the storyline for the GMS exclusive quests left NEXON and was replaced with someone else? "Why do you think that?" one may ask. The reason is simple. I noticed that lately, NEXON is getting worse with writing decent storylines. An example we can make are the Halloween quests. Last year there wasn't a storyline AT ALL in the Haunted House. This year, there is a very short storyline, which even doesn't make much sense to me. Olivia is a NPC and asks you for some items to help her. Then there aren't any more quests. Then you see Jonas (I was hoping for something like this.. a "revival" of the old storyline of Jonas Prendergast) who asks you for some items, then nothing. After you do that quest, Steward takes you to Olivia's Secret Room (why does he ask for you to do that quest to enter? Asking for a key which was only given from the Jonas' Presence 3 quest would've been a more reasonable way to do it.. than just making Steward say: "You need to complete the Jonas' Presence 3 quest to enter"). Then you enter a room and have to fight with Olivia. What kind of crap is this? Why does Olivia suddendly transform in a monster and you have to defeat her? Or, why is there another Olivia in the house, which is a monster? We don't know. And that's where the storyline stops making sense. After that, nothing. I still haven't done the Olivia chair quest, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't make the storyline have more sense than it already has. So yeah. Poorly-made storyline, anyone? I do know this is an event and probably they didn't spend much time on it because they had to test all the other stuff in this patch, but I think that if they had to make a storyline, it should at least be a good one. If I'm missing something, tell me, please. Because, to me, this storyline doesn't make sense, and if a storyline doesn't make sense it isn't a storyline anymore. Also, they made Jonas look like a monster, who just wants to make evil toys to scare people, etc., but he isn't like that. Those who did the quests and know the Prendergast storyline probably know that he is like that because her daughter (Sophylia) died in an accident and he went mad for that reason. Because of that, he closed himself in his toy workshop, and died some days after. After he died, the toy machine started pumping out evil toys, like if it absorbed his soul after dying. Because he was sad and angry for her daughter's loss, the machine became "evil" and started creating evil toys. This kinda makes sense to me. Now, let's go back to 2007. One of the best Halloween storylines MapleStory has ever had. Not only were there lots of interesting quests, storyline and equips-wise (e.g.: toymaker equips), but the storyline was just great. The quests were indeed more than 15 and they gave you good rewards and such. Last year there were two expiring hats. One of which gave you 10 attack. This year, there's a chair. Better than expiring items, but still.. NEXON used to write really good storylines for the GMS-exclusive quests, but now.. for some reason, they don't anymore. Too bad, I was and still am really interested in reading good storylines in MapleStory.. even if many people could say that it's stupid to look forward to interesting storylines in MapleStory, I think that there still are many nice quests with good storylines. An example is Aran, one of the jobs with more storyline of the entire MapleStory after the Knights of Cygnus. tl;dr: NEXON doesn't write good storylines anymore. An example are this Halloween's Quests, which have a little of storyline, but there's a certain point where it starts not making sense anymore, at least to me. Last year we didn't even get a storyline for Halloween.. so yeah. Compared to 2007 Halloween quests, this Halloween's are nearly nothing. Thinking about something.. - Scaeva - 2009-10-25 It's the same thing with CWK PQ, although I heard you can some story at the end of the PQ. Nothing Nexon does seems to make sense to me lately. Maybe NxProse/NxJoe wrote the stories for GMS-exclusive content? Maybe NxProse/NxJoe wrote the stories for GMS-exclusive content?I talked to NxJoeW and he said that even if NxProse was a designer for NEXON America, he didn't really do that kind of stuff, and the idea for the Masteria content/story was there for a while. Not really sure about himself. Could be it, or could not be it. But yeah, the CWKPQ is another example which came to my mind. Not only aren't there any quests inside the Keep, but Jack also doesn't tell you anything, other than "Do you want to be the Leader of the Expedition Squad?".. doesn't make much sense. He also said that there wasn't a way to enter the Keep but it wasn't the main gate because of the red energy field which blocked the way. Still, somehow, they made it so that you suddendly was able to enter without any problems. I was expecting them to find another way to enter, but it looks like they really run out of idea. They should've thought about it before making Jack say those things about the energy field. There actually IS a red energy field in the doors inside the Keep, but it's not like it blocks you the way, and that's really strange. Also, the Courtyard takes you directly into the Keep, but there isn't any object in the right side of the map which makes you think that the map after that is the Keep itself.. not a door, nothing. Just a portal. The left part of the Courtyard, though, has a big door, which is the same one at the entrance of the Keep and takes you outside. Then why didn't they do something like that for the portal in the Courtyard which takes you inside the keep? Many, many questions, but no answers. This is a perfect example of poorly-managed/rushed content. Thinking about something.. - Will - 2009-10-25 If Krakia ends up being as dull as the Haunted Mansion Expansion, I'll lost faith in Masteria.
Thinking about something.. - aslemn - 2009-10-25 Okay, this story made no sense. Seriously, even the ones after these quests. The new bosses, amdusias, etc. Are in a random map with random NLC Objects and Ellin forest ones, which doesn't have any relation with halloween or even masteria. I was hoping for olivia to be something related to the old story of the mansion, which was really nice. But this one is just a random bunch of things, just to say they've added something. Thinking about something.. - NotAwesome - 2009-10-25 Once you get the chair you learn that Olivia was apparently the other daughter of Jonas who was neglected and died of starvation. She wanted revenge, but Jonas had died already so she decided to take it out on Maplers. Isn't much better, but it makes more sense. That's hilarious considering how much he cared about Sophilia Thinking about something.. - Loose - 2009-10-25 aslemn Wrote:Who's Joe,then? An illusion created by Olivia to lure you into the Haunted Mansion? Anyways, if that's how the story is told at the end, then damn. They had no pictures of Olivia. Does it explain anything about the chair? "Oh Olivia turned into a chair. Here, have her." If that's all there is then yeah, it's a pretty big letdown. Another daughter that just came out of nowhere? Not to mention that kinda leaves Joe completely unexplained and you know, that little boy ghost is STILL unexplained since day 1. Also if we really do get a halloween expansion everyother year thats still pretty good.
Thinking about something.. - Salguod - 2009-10-25 The little boy ghost is probably Jonas's forgotten son who died from a cause to be named in the next Halloween event. I'm disappointed because I heard great things about the first Halloween storyline, which I missed, and I was looking forward to this one. Also, the 3 times per 24 hours is incredibly annoying. Thinking about something.. - Link - 2009-10-25 A little off-topic, but what's "quitted?" Thinking about something.. - aslemn - 2009-10-25 The boy was explained in KMS,which didn't worte the story.... They forgot it since the first expansion, and completely did in this one. I'm pretty sure it is just that, a chair. At least Steward made it seem that way. Thinking about something.. - aslemn - 2009-10-25 I just laughed when you explained. "Look, she's evil! Kill her.Oh,she turned into a chair, take it,fast!" At least, before, they cared about the money AND the game, but seeing how much their latest "exclusive" stuff sucks, makes me think that they're starting to neglect the game and care more about the money.. gachapon box events, cash shop surprise events.. they try their best to come up with new ideas for stuff for people with NX instead than thinking about decent storylines. Probably, the person who wrote this new storyline, didn't even know the old Jonas Prendergast storyline, which is important because he could've written something related to the old storyline (other than just that Jonas NPC who only gives you one quest and tells you nothing else related to the old storyline), to make it more "complete" or something. Jonas, for example, is seen like a madman who just wants to make evil toys, but it isn't like that. Whoever wrote the things he says probably didn't know the old storyline. Thinking about something.. - aslemn - 2009-10-25 This made nonsense just because one thing. Like you said,Jonas now is evil, but in the first mansion he wasn't like this. They changed the whole story, and made it lose the sense. Like,Ludmilla and Sophilia just left, and a random daughter appeared with a poof. What's the next year one, another daughter? Strange is that Jonas keeps reproducing even after dying, the little boy is his younger son, that died when he was a child due to a disease. Thinking about something.. - Combattente - 2009-10-25 It's not that Jonas makes toys even after dying, it's that the toy machine somehow "absorbed" his sad and angry soul after he died in there, and it started pumping out evil toys because of that. But yeah, even the new maps are kinda.. rushed. Thinking about something.. - aslemn - 2009-10-25 That's what i said. By reproducing,i'm saying that he keeps making sons and daughters even after dying, and after each year we see a new one. |
