Goodbye Terraria, Hello Starbound!
Redigit Wrote:The future of Terraria has been highly debated as of late, not just with the community, but for us as well. The last year has been a crazy ride! When I started on this game, I just had a few ideas of what I thought would make a fun game. I had no idea that it would receive so much attention. I want to thank all of you for supporting us and making this game's success possible. Source While I'm sad that the team is going to stop development, I wish them good luck in their future endeavours. For a while I've been following Tiyuri's Twitter, he's the graphics dev of Terraria but also the creator of his own game called Starbound. I'm really excited for Starbound. If you haven't checked out their website, do it now!

Oh, that's a massive shame, I only just started playing Terraria recently and was excited about what the next patch might bring.
That said, Starbound sounds pretty damn awesome, gonna be keeping my eye on that.

Dang thats a sad thing. Too bad the game isnt open source or moddeable, you could get more life out of the game that way when the devs decided that is time to move on.

I can't say I'm pretty damn frustrated...
I was anxiously awaiting 1.2 and beyond, but I have this feeling like they just didn't care about the game anymore so they dropped it. Regardless, Starbound has got me pretty excited, it's like Terraria 2.0.

pomegranate, this isn't the news I wanted to see about the game. Sad to see it go as it was my indie game of '11.
Starbound however... looks very very promising. Can't wait for that one.

pineapple, man, and no way for us to let the game live on a bit longer.
Terraria's modding community is almost nonexistent, and the ones there are are almost all glitchy as hell, or add nothing noteworthy to the game. RIP Terraria. ![]() I'll be supporting Tiy and his new game though.

inb4 this topic becomes "Starbound". The one thing I like about Starbound is the "Increased difficulty in Multiplayer"

I could totally see Starbound as a Terraria v2.0.
And it seems it goes beyond the "Dig and Build" too.

Starbound is more than just Terraria. According to Tiy:
Quote:It's a mixture of some of my favourite concepts. Diablo, Borderlands, Terraria, Pokemon, Castlevania, Metroid. + Stuff no one has done before! Tentacle Planet looks awesome:

Gaslamp Games (Dungeons of Dredmor) offers Re-Logic to continue support for Terraria!
Quote:@Demilogic @Terraria_Logic So! Any interest in having us take over Terraria support for you guys? We're perfectly serious. Honestly, I REALLY want this to happen!

Oooh, thats promising, i didn't even think about that.
A different company could also spell new and different things for the game, so i'm all for it.

Remember that if they pass control to another group, they will have to give them part of the earnings to the new group (Unless they are doing for the heck of it, but i doubt it).

The more that's added to the game, the more people buy it and the more money they receive, so i think it would be better for them to let Terraria continue.

There are other factors that Re-Logic will also have to take into account to decide whenever or not to let these guys to take the creative control of their game, its not such a easy thing to decide.
But well, one can hope. |
