Terraria discussion thread

It's never too early for a thread!

I'm reeeally looking forward to this game. It's a multiplayer sandbox game (in the same vein as Minecraft). People often call it a Minecraft clone, which it really isn't. There are no plans for an alpha or demo (like Minecraft did). It should be out between now and July though! Big Grin

Looks interesting, but I'm curious about how long it will hold my attention. Confused

I'd think about playing it if it were free.

The timing of this thread is pretty eerie, 'cause I spent a bunch of time watching PaperBatVG's playthrough of Terraria yesterday and I watched Redigit & Blue's Let's Play today.

I'm really liking what I see so far. I myself have never played Minecraft, mostly because I wasn't attracted to the building aspect of it (I'm also a sucker for 2D as opposed to 3D) and Terraria seems to put more emphasis on the action-adventure aspect of spelunking. Can't wait to give this game a try for myself.

Is it free? Sure I'll play. Pay to play? Screw that.

Hahaha, I've been doing this for the past few days going through any source I can find. I REALLY REALLY want this game.(Just as much as No Time to Explain)
I'm really interested in the multiplayer.

Enjoy your crappy MMOs with severely limited free content.

It's not like I have any other choice at the moment. QQ

I've only seen player videos of Minecraft, but the 3D building...it hasn't appealed to me at all. I love the look of this game though.

I was thinking about posting a thread for this, but Jon beat me to it. I've been watching so many videos since I first saw it in the Fortresscraft thread. So excited. ^_^

How is that not a minecraft clone? It looks worse too.

It's a game that deals with building, mining, and crafting, sure. But that's about as far as it goes as far as being a "clone".

and it uses cubes/squares.

But it also brings some new things to the table that Notch hasn't even touched. eg, finite water....

The argument is there, albeit a little weak.

Got myself so hyped up that I decided to design a Headquarters for my guy for whenever I start playing. Never hurts to be prepared!

 Spoiler

*Note*: Not too sure yet, but those mushrooms might need to be planted deeper underground maybe.

Nice one, HJ. I like the platforms underneath the doors on the upper levels. That's something I haven't seen any of the LPers do.

Played the crack version. I have to admit, the game sucks. Kinda funny how it works the opposite of minecraft:
Minecraft gameplay trailer sucks, but the game is quite good
Terraria gameplay trailer looks awesome, but the game sucks.

Of course, this is all in my opinion.

But weren't you playing the pre-alpha/alpha version with fairly little content in relative terms?

Or does exploration not appeal to you too much? ;p
