His comments on his FB about his daughter suggests otherwise. She seems like a responsible kid (from what the father says on his FB) but at the same time she sometimes behaves irrationally.

"Modern" parenting raises ill-prepared kids who can't do anything and have no skills because they're protected from even LEARNING them until 18 years old, at which time you want us parents to throw them out into the world, send them off to college, and expect them to be productive members of society? You can take your "modern" parenting, and shove it. Jeezus people. Half of you think chores at 15 are too much! God forbid we make them actually WORK too!

Now I'm letting my daughter have her interview with Social Services, so they too can be satisfied that I don't yell at her, beat her, traumatize her, lock her in a closet without food, deprive her of basic human rights, make her cut the grass with scizzors, hunt for her meals in the wild with only a spork, or otherwise fail to provide for my daughter. She's great. She's strong. And apparently she's handling it better than some of you are.

People were telling her she was going to commit suicide, commit a gun-related crime, become a drug addict, drop out of school, get pregnant on purpose, and become a stripper because she’s too emotionally damaged now to be a productive member of society. Apparently stripper was the job-choice of most of the commenters. Her response was “Dude… it’s only a computer. I mean, yeah I’m mad but pfft.” She actually asked me to post a comment on one of the threads (and I did) asking what other job fields the victims of laptop-homicide were eligible for because she wasn’t too keen on the stripping thing.

I actually think all of the retarded responses helped make this a lot easier for them both because it gave them a common enemy.

Well this is an unexpected outcome. Like Sarah said, the fact he made it public might have saved their relationship as now they laugh together at the irrationality of other people. I wish he ended up making a video along with her to show everything he says in those comments is true (they relationship being in a much better state than expected)

Maybe that family is so used to using guns for everything that this wasn't shocking or even strange at all. "you got a C in your exam? wtp is your problem *Shoots exam sheet*"

Actually, yes. The guy said that the whole situation was a mistake and that he considers he messed up. Daughter might think so too, it seems.
The guy also says that when it became viral he had to tell the family that they'd have to be strong and deal with media for a while.
However, I don't think of it as "damage done". THAT'S WHAT THE DAUGHTER NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND.
Or if you mean damage as in all the attention they're getting, it will be over before you know, it will be forgotten and a new topic will hot for a while... and so on.
It should be useful for people parenting kids, be it an average teenager or a teenager Cartman, to know that there are other methods to get to their kids. I don't mean shooting, or actually destroying anything, but methods that might be useful in difficult situations.
The guy is right when he says modern parenting is failing, he failed too and went to the other extreme. But tough love shouldn't be dismissed or considered useless.
