As a guy going into IT, I fear for my children. (If i have any)
KhainiWest Wrote:So $130 from it looks like close to a 1k laptop then makes it belong to him? So wait, if I lay down any type of money towards anyones property it belongs to me? okay. And you're right but he didn't take those things away he destroyed HER property. Just because my computer runs off my parents electric bill doesn't mean if I do something wrong they take away MY property, they take away their property that fuels it. See that's how an adult thinks.

Of course because the rant is a significant piece of information just as the fathers is. What I ignore her perspective of her rant because it might have been overexaggerated? The same could be said to the father. So no man, you need to reevaluate your deductive reasoning because it's pretty much shyt right now.

It's litterally a distraction so that your listening audiance is keeping its attention on you while you try to recover what you're trying to say. This pretty much means his chores are probably not known even to him off the top of his head. Therefore, even in his fit, that such information is probably inaccurate. The rant was not done as a public speech and was personal, it's potentially more accurate in terms of base truths not exact detail or impact. In general the girls rant is probably more accurate then the fathers who does pretty piss poor with speaking to an audience. Hence his stuttering. These mannerisms help determine who was more collected, and it most likely was in fact the girl.

If you read my entire argument is not about the girl, it's actually about the inaccuracy of the father mainly. The girls perspective is just as valuable to the conversation as the fathers response. I'm not saying everything she entirely said was valid, but that perspective she has is important because that's how she see's things. Just as the father sees everything different, such as lack of responsibility on her part vs a huge workload on hers. So no that isn't my entire argument and I'd be much more grateful if you read what I wrote.

Who's arguing that? Present me proof that he had a conversation not a demand against her concerning this incident. So no your argument isn't fact it's an assumption they had a heart to heart in order to resolve this, not him demanding she simply stop. I look at the opposite possibility considering she not only did it again, but she was much more rash about it.

No it's based off a specific video and a specific rant when tied together with the generalization of a teenagers attitude along with property. Your information was answering a single question of how he found it, which really is a small piece of the argument and doesn't balance it in your favor in anyway.

So in two sentences you completely forfeited the argument. You just said it's normal for teenagers to do this but how she did it was wrong, not her actual action. Therefore you justify the rant, just that she should have been done a better job at hiding it? Hey guess what lesson she learned after all this, the typical teenage response towards scenarios like this which you support, hide it better. Congratulations.

No you said punishment, the point is to take away. That isn't punishment at all. I never claimed you disagreed or agreed with it at all.

Again you don't know that the point I was making is that without the upgrades the comp is unusable its just the frame that is all that's left that belongs to her. When you pay for the repairs for it it basically becomes yours or you could simply take the repairs away putting it back in its broken state. Either that or you can't use it in the house seeing as that belongs to him.

Not really a far comparison since her was a written note. But again we don't have the proof to save either way.

You can't really say that for sure since all we know is she did something similar in the past and perhaps what started her rant in the first place could have been something else.

Your whole thing was the message was private he wasted supposed to see it he did because of some random fluke.

Normal for a teenager to be mad at their parents the point I'm making and have been is you need to do it in a way they don't find out. If she never posted that rant to facebook it probably wouldn't of been found. You were the one saying it was private for her friends only she tried to hide it her father found it because she forgot to hide it from the dog's page. That's not my solution for it mine is talk to your damn parents if you have something to say say it to them don't post and peach and complain to your friends that doesn't do anything.

But yea if your too much of a coward to express your views on something to your parents then please for your parents sake at least have the decency to peach where no one else but you can find it

To take away to show you the consensuses of your actions the consequence for this action was bullets to the laptop.

DragonsMirth Wrote:So yelling at her and grounding her is talking and trying to understand each others' problems?

There's a reason why she shared it in private with her friends. Not to let the whole world to see.

Sitting down and talking about each other's problems is not kissing up to each other's butts.

Unfortunately, your posts completely assumes she's an ignorant, rebellious teenager and that the only trustworthy source is the dad. You also say that people shouldn't assume, yet you assumed all that about her laptop.

Blowing up a possession is not popping someone's little bubble. You do know that it can make her go deeper into her little bubble, right? As for the "people in THIS day and age..." thing, what if she was just sharing it to her friends so she can get over it?

I can agree on this (it being extreme), but a talk between the two would have been most ideal. =)

You too~

You don't buy a new battery and power cord if they were fine in the first place. That's a reasonable assumption don't you think.

Sharing it with her friends on facebook is why there are now 7 bullet holes in her laptop. A phone call or text parents would of never saw it and she'd still have a laptop.

Hey The Great One.

If I, out of the nice guy that I am, saw that your laptop was broken (poor you!) and offered to pay for your repair because you were broke, what would you think? Would this mean that all of the sudden, the $700 that you spent on that laptop is nullified because I somehow paid $130 out of my sincere kindness to fix your computer? Does this mean that your laptop is now mine?

The laptop itself no. The very things needed to operate said laptop yea along with the place where you keep it the power you use to charge the battery the internet you use to bash me on your facebook. Seeing how parents have this wonderful power to take gifts back and without these said gifts your laptop is just a door stopper.

There was no destruction of the power cord or the battery. The destruction was purely from the entire computer, which the daughter owns. It isn't a god damn gift. It's owned by her. Whenever you come to my house I will shoot your laptop and justify it by saying you're using my electricity.

And you'd be right in doing so since it's your house you can decide what comes in your house and what doesn't.

If there wasn't anything wrong with the battery and the power cord there wouldn't have been a need to replace them seems your not getting that.

As much as I find this guy to speak total truth, as well as being a badass, it's a shame his daughter will now rebel hardcore this year.

I bet 5wingwams she's pregnant by the end of the year.

His comments on his FB about his daughter suggests otherwise. She seems like a responsible kid (from what the father says on his FB) but at the same time she sometimes behaves irrationally.

Siding with Locked and KhainiWest. It was very immature to go that far on disciplining his daughter. As others have said, this will only hurt their relationship, and she'll most likely rebel even more now. It is important to have some understanding that a teenager is not going to do everything you say, and you can discipline them accordingly if you want. Getting a gun out and proving a point does nothing, but instill fear and make you wonder what else he would do to truly prove a point though. Parenting requires a balance of both tough parenting and being understanding. Going to an extreme like he did, was just wrong.

I have no idea of the entire situation at home, but maybe she is having problems with the stepmother as well. We don't know. However, the father should have been more understanding. Both parties are at fault on this one.

Never thought I'd see the day you actually backed down from something. You have a tendency to argue your point until it's six feet under.

I feel like this is a little bit of a "confused parent" type of things, y'know? He was frustrated and at his wits-end with his daughter and reacted out of anger. It happens to everyone. pomegranate, I watched my dad pick my xbox up and throw it into a brick wall when I was a sophomore when I was in highschool (he also managed to get into my Myspace and very publicly demeaned me through it. I laugh about it now, but back then it was a bummer). Parents are still human, and they all make mistakes, whether it be big or small. Hopefully they both take something away from this situation and can be better suited for handling situations like these in the future. Y'know, without the gun and all.

Read previous posts. She's not gonna be a rebel and she's not gonna be messed up. She's not gonna be pregnant in 1 year...it doesn't take much to read them all (if you ignore "what if" posts).

On a side note, my mom just watched the video and read some of the comments here. She says that there wouldn't be any argument if the guy just threw it on the garbage or out the window. That people who disagree are just in shock because he used a gun. We also read his FB wall and mom says the guy seems quite reasonable. She agrees with me, if that's what it takes for a teenager to change his/her attitude then do it. The guy said he tried talking, not as severe punishment, etc.
@above: you're ok with your dad throwing xbox to a wall but it would've been wrong to shoot it?
What's the goddamned difference?
