As a guy going into IT, I fear for my children. (If i have any)
My computer got tossed out the window 2 years ago because I wouldn't quit in the middle of a party quest (I was soloing Alishar, my team depended on me...).

No sympathy.

There are somethings that can be fixed by just talking to a child which I'm sure that happened the LAST time she did someone like that he even said it yelled at her took the computer phone ya know the typical grounding type of thing seems that didn't work. There are more ways to take out anger then blast your parents on the internet for the whole world to see.

As my parents would put it "Do you expect me to kiss your ass and beg you to stop?"

But it wasn't for everyone to see, it was for her friends group, hence the private. Although I'm not sure if that changes anything. I can understand the fathers frustration and dissapointment, but it's a regular teenage thing, I think he should have been understanding of that. For a teenager words are just words, online is just free therapy to be honest.

Then she needs to keep a journal or something posting it for your friends to see is just a matter of time before she gets into an argument with one of em and releases it to the public or something. Nothing really wrong with ranting just keep it to yourself. He was probably more mad at the fact that he just made her computer useable again and the first thing she does is blast her parents with said computer after having been told not to do this kind of thing again.

The internet is the best and worst creation in the history of man aside from weapons of mass destruction, in my eyes. Things escalate out of control very quickly with no limitations. The internet is absolutely not a form of therapy, it has the opposite effect in most cases, this being a prime example. It just opens a floodgate of emotions, which are meant to be kept inside...and once you release them in one way, they begin to leak out in many more. I could argue that social cliques in grade school have the same effect to a lesser extent, too.

Isn't it hypocritical, extremely, for both of you to attack this girl for criticizing when I can gurrantee you both are guilty of it at any given point of that time of your life. Sure it wasn't posted on FB, but let's take a step back and look at the forest rather than the tree.

She's complaining to her friends about her parents being unreasonable, on a private function, to her friends in a convenient way. It's no different than if I posted an angry dome thread about my sister being a total c`unt, yet none of you gave me this kind of treatement, and you're all total strangers. The whole ordeal the dad is facing is he's embarrassed that he can't "control" his child, but any doctor will tell you it's healthy, and much less damaging then her going on strike and telling you to f`uck off.

My point is, although we only have one very ambiguous side of the story, we shouldn't assume anymore than the general attitude most teens present, which in this case is very normal, and healthy way to go about it. I would even argue the way she did it wasn't even disrespectful, that's why you have a social structure, to rant too. Let me remind you the father made it public. In my personal opinion this is just inexperienced parenting try to nuke their kids attitude in fear of something they just simply don't understand. I can empathize with him, but I can also understand the girls point of view. But I agree with sardines, trying to force her to get a job is pretty much unrealistic with the job market as is. The only place she could work is some job where the employers would abuse her anyway with her inexperience. When she's 18 she can take more respectable jobs.

I think that from the video itself you can see how much he cares about her. I can't say this was the correct way to handle this situation, but I sure as hell can understand his frustration and disappointment after seeing something like that coming from his own loving daughter.

I'm pretty sure this kind of thing, as trivial as it may seem, hits a parent pretty hard emotionally which is what sometimes people seem to forget in favor of trying to justify everything with "logic".

Not being a hypocrite.
In my case I had a parent that most would describe as great or ideal. She'd talk to me, she'd try to understand and make me understand, etc.
When I was a teenager I was really problematic, getting drunk every weekend and whatnot, not once I got grounded. The one time I was, I "escaped" and nothing happened.
I never worked, I never studied, I felt entitled to anything I wanted and most of the times I'd get it, when I didn't it I'd answer the same way she did, with nearly no repercussion, other than the usual talk.
Nothing changed until recently when my mom unplugged me and told me that I'd never be able to use internet again until I started paying for it(or started college). She sent modem and stuff back to internet provider company and sold my router. It worked for us.
Taping it and making it public and other details might be irrelevant if that's what it takes for her to change.

Theres a difference between saying my parents are crazy then saying stuff like when you get too old to wipe your own ass I wont be there. The difference in the example you gave its your sister you can say anything you want about her she doesn't pay your bills, feed you, clothe you, provide you with a place to sleep at night the internet you used to say all that crap. As my parents would put it "You don't get to talk to me like I'm some hood off the street". Nothing wrong with venting your frustrations just its do it somewhere else your friends don't need to hear you say it or write it and you don't put it someplace like facebook. Hell its not even that she wasn't ranting about her parents its the extreme she took it to. I doubt her dad would of cared if she left some of the things she said out of the post.

I doubt your sister sees any of the rants you've posted about her here.

There is no difference because they are equally as spiteful, one is just more specific, or rather, that the intention is equally as spiteful.

You say that as if it isn't a parents obligation to do that until they are 18, minus the internet. To be honest if you look at it on the other side, he sounds ungrateful for all the stuff she does do. Notice how what her chores listed, not one of them was "pour me coffee". He believes that her responsibilities require to get up and get on the bus, sound's pretty underminding her day considering teachers act like parents and having 9-10 of them a day takes a toll. It seems he hasn't come to terms with our generation being the consequence of his generations irresponsibility.

People need a social structure, that's a common thing any psychologist major will tell you, because they need support and understanding outside of their family. Facebook is simply a method to reach out to the social infrastructure. The stuff she said in her post was just words, and that's how they should be taken at that age. His actions only burn the bridge of compromise as a responsible parent would have spoken with her about it, telling her "don't do it again" isn't talking it's demanding.

She could just as easily if she had the intention to find it. It wasn't met for her dad to see it either.

I guess my parents are just more civil and logical about problems than incidents like this, which could be resolved pretty easily by just talking it out.

He has a right to be pissed imo, but he overreacted. And I have a few other things to say: first, it appears like the girl is spoiled, but who else spoiled her other than the parents? They are partially to blame for her tantrum in the first place. Secondly, why post this to her friends and the public? Why not keep it private? I think the dad just wanted attention and people to agree with him in a similar way to how his daughter wanted attention when she had her rant. Anyway, the father blew the whole thing out of proportion. The girl is spoiled yes, spoiled by her parents and easy life. The father should've just took away the laptop, and other privileges for a good 3 months. I'm sure that would've taught the girl her lessons. But instead he made a sideshow of the whole overblown ordeal to the public. There are better ways to handle things like this. And modern teens are just that, teens. Most teens are generally still cynical kids and they need to learn what real life is before they go living it. This gives the girl a good lesson of what real life is but the father could have demonstrated that lesson in a less destructive way to her without embarrassing himself and her.

There is a difference which one would get you in trouble, the I cant stand you or the I wont be their to wipe your ass when you get old.

You act as though their doing the bare minium or something it seems like she has all of her needs and almost all of her wants fulfilled. Her complaining about her having to get him some coffee( haven't your parents asked you to do something even though their like 2 steps away from doing it themselves) its not a big deal and I doubt she was yelled and screamed out or belittled if she didn't do it. Parents are obligated by law to do the bear minimum hell if that was the case she would never have the laptop in the first place since shes never had a job and the money she gather was probably from birthdays, Christmas and allowance. Aside from the chores her only responsibility was to go to school and do well and the chores she was doing don't seem like much since they do have a cleaning lady. So I have to ask what the hell is she really complaining about?

You seem to be forgetting they already had the talking it out phase the LAST time she did it and he WARNED her of what the punishment was if it was done again. She did it again this is the punishment. He tried talking it didn't work. So unless you want him to get down on his knees and say " Sweety please don't post hateful things about us on your facebook pages for all your friends to see pretty please." Maybe you were just one of those kids who did what your parents asked they tell you to don't do something again you didn't do it again. She isn't one of em and most kids or teenagers aren't

Next time post your rant on facebook not a maplestory fourm. I'm sure she'll give you crap for it or just do the same to you on her facebook.

I think all parents would do a variant of this they probably wouldn't put it online for the world to see. It all ends up the same way the girl is out a laptop.

@below he did that the first time she did this they took away the laptop phone no facebook grounded the works. She did it again apparently the punishment didn't work so another type had to be administered. Guess he wanted it to really hit home with her and shot it instead of just taking it away. I bet she'll find another way to vent he anger hopefully a more constrictive way vent on a social media site isn't the best way to do accessibly when your saying things like that.

We all get angry at our parents but I doubt hardly anyone does it where your parents can find it.

lol yea never post rants to facebook it might end up on your dog's facebook page which is how her father even found it in the first place. Make sure to friend your pets before you vent. Source: http://www.facebook.com/tommyjordaniii

They guy seems to be a cool dad. Daughter also seems to take it nicely:
"Dude… it’s only a computer. I mean, yeah I’m mad but pfft.” She actually asked me to post a comment on one of the threads (and I did) asking what other job fields the victims of laptop-homicide were eligible for because she wasn’t too keen on the stripping thing."

That's completely opinionated, she was reinforcing that she feels like they are dependent on her in terms of labor, on the other hand calling them bat crazy would probably have the same effect.

The Great One Wrote:You act as though their doing the bare minium or something

You're trying to say she should be appreciative of the things they do for her, but everything you listed is a government requirement thus irrelevent to any type of argument to begin with.

The Great One Wrote:Her complaining about her having to get him some coffee( haven't your parents asked you to do something even though their like 2 steps away from doing it themselves) its not a big deal and I doubt she was yelled and screamed out or belittled if she didn't do it.

It was an example of her frustration not the entirity of her rant. I'd be upset to if I cleaned the floor and he just walked in just to mess it up and ask me to do it again. You aren't looking at the specific details, you're in this stage in life where you feel like you're above this individual in maturity and intelligence because you believe you see things more realistically. Just like the teenage attitude that is generally a common thing, so is your attitude of this situation. In fact you only can see it from the fathers perspective and not the childs because you believe the child's is naive based on the fathers opinion fed to you.

The Great One Wrote:Parents are obligated by law to do the bear minimum hell if that was the case she would never have the laptop in the first place since shes never had a job and the money she gather was probably from birthdays, Christmas and allowance. She doesn't have an allowance, otherwise she wouldn't have brought up that pay me scenario. Christmas/birthday money could be majority of her grandparents rather than her parents. Typically that's a grandparent standard gift in comparison of the parent buying an actual item. Based on the limited information any point of "it was his money to begin with" is frankly just a baseless assumption. She paid for the laptop, he may have paid for the software, but to be honest based on the jargon he was using it sounds like she needed the student windows 7 addition which is more of a tool than enjoyment purposes'.

The Great One Wrote:You seem to be forgetting they already had the talking it out phase the LAST time she did it and he WARNED her of what the punishment was if it was done again. You aren't looking at the most important details, the mannerisms are what matter. You're looking at the summary, you didn't listen to what he said, what she wrote, if you did you would understand why your opinion is pretty extreme. He said he told her not to do it again, notice he said told not asked. That's important because he didn't confront the problem, he threatened her not to do it again. It didn't solve the problem, so instead of actually speaking with her about it, he destroyed her method of retaliation. You have to pay attention to the vocabulary, if you want my honest opinion the cleaning lady comment is what set him off, and is most likely her step mother.

The Great One Wrote:Next time post your rant on facebook not a maplestory fourm. I'm sure she'll give you crap for it or just do the same to you on her facebook.

I don't know how to get through to you. This is a private message, unless my sister litterally dug into my account and pulled it up you can't compare like this. I did post my rant in facebook, in private, to my friends, didn't hear a thing, you know why? She didnt invade my privacy, which imo a parent should be allowed to do, but with caution. He took her comments to heart and retaliated by removing her ability to speak her mind. Obviously it's pretty much "I'm god hear me roar" in that household, taking away her only method of venting is probably going to bite him in the ass when she becomes so stressed she begins to cut herself.

The Great One Wrote:I think all parents would do a variant of this they probably wouldn't put it online for the world to see. It all ends up the same way the girl is out a laptop.

Friends, not world, friends. My sister has posted much much much worse, but my dad takes the time to confront it and get to an understanding, he doesn't strip the internet from her because it's an important tool. It might as well be a neccessity in today's world, much like the phones upon their creation.

The Great One Wrote:We all get angry at our parents but I doubt hardly anyone does it where your parents can find it.

Your attitude/mannerism's are very clear to your parents when you're mad. She just expressed it through writing and I'm sure it cooled her off. See if my dad, and he has, read a rant I posted about him, he gives me an average of 2-3 days then confronts me about it when I cool off. That's how he earned mutual respect, he didn't threaten me, he made me question my reasoning, and confronted it point by point. That is a lot more rational than threatening, promising, and delivering only to teach her that "shut up and obey" is appropriate for everything. That's a pretty sh`it lesson.

The difference lies in the reaction of the people your talking about. Calling your parents crazy doesn't get bullets in your laptop saying the stuff in her rant does.

What I was referring to was the laptop and other things she has like t.v mp3 player game system what have you, but aren't needs basically anything that isn't food or a place to stay clothes is debatable because they could just get a her a few outfits ad be done.

Her rant was basically "I have to do all these things AND go to school its hard I'm always tired." If you had watched the vidoe the only chores she had to do were load and unload the dishwasher make her own bed and clean her own room and wash her own clothes. Your acting like the girl who is mad at the time isn't fluffing what she really has to do. The only real complaint in there is the cleaning the floors just to have someone with dirt on their shoes walk over it. I'm sure that just happened sometime before this I doubt cleaning the floors is one of her everyday chores. You really need to stop making baseless assumptions about people you really bad at it. The things I'm saying are more or less correct about her as I've been in her shoes and in some ways still am.

And you don't know if he did talk to her extensively about it generally when you do get grounded you get one of those long ass lectures about why what you did was wrong and why you shouldn't be doing it. and just before you get off of said punishment you get another one to remind you of said reasons and the whole discussion thing. Only they know if they have had that discussion the guy seems reasonable enough I'm sure he did talk with her he just doesn't seem the type to ground and tell and scream at her to not do it again. but unless he tells us that its all just opinion.

You need to read the last edit on how he got it he DID NOT invade her privacy they have a facebook page for their dog which is on her friends list since it's hardly ever used she kinda forgot about it when he went to go post a picture of the dog on its page lo and behold there's the rant. just another reason why YOU DON'T POST pomegranate LIKE THAT ON FACEBOOK if she needs to talk to someone text talk on the phone or in person. I've ranted about my parents just as any teenagers does yet I don't have 7 bullets in my computer or have it thrown at the window or taken away.

That's the point of punishment to take away something you want she wants and in this day and age almost needs however they are blended if she needs to use a computer for school they have them at the school. oh and look at the poster above you even the girl herself isn't all that mad. She probably realizes how much that her her parents.

The whole talking it out with your kids works sometimes not always. Seems it works for your family doesn't for all of em. So instead of looking down on it how about trying to understand it

Depends on the parents, look at switching spouses, some lady went on a tangent because they weren't christian. Words are petty, her actions speak louder, that's what every adult should know.

I wasn't contradicting the statement but you can't say "clothes food and shelter" as they are obligations. Once again she bought the laptop with her own money. HER.OWN.MONEY
The Great One Wrote:Her rant was basically "I have to do all these things AND go to school its hard I'm always tired." Okay but excuse me? You're trying to use my own argument against me because you can't come up with your own? It's YOU who needs to open his eyes as most of your points are completely baseless and using only the information the video presents. I'm looking a both perspectives. You know that word? PERSPECTIVE. As the daughter could "fluff" it up the father can just as much under value it. In fact YOUR assumption of the father's words being golden are absolutely ridiculous. For gods sake when he tried to list the chores he started with UM. That is a mannerism that pretty much says "oh well I'll make up the list". Have you seen the list? No? I haven't either but you know what I heard? "Your responsibility consists of getting on the bus for attendance". I know you're in college, I know you've been to high school, your responsibility is a lot more than attendance. His argument? "I DID THIS AND THAT AT MY AGE" which I'd like to say is even more retarded because times were so much more different back then where oppurtunities like that exist. Also this is an inexperience manuever of a parent.
The Great One Wrote:And you don't know if he did talk to her extensively about it generally when you do get grounded you get one of those long ass lectures about why what you did was wrong and why you shouldn't be doing it. and just before you get off of said punishment you get another one to remind you of said reasons and the whole discussion thing. But its you trying to argue opinions. Your entire argument is "he did talk with her previously therefore hes justified", yet you just contradicted yourself saying my argument is invalid because mine's an opinion? Do you see how you're just digging yourself deeper in this hole when you try to flip it. Based on his vocabulary, his mannerisms, and his daughters response, this isn't a discussion situation, its a demand, a threat, and an execution of threat. While your assumption is baseless my argument is backed up the information presented. It's an educated assessment.

You're still a teenager, clearly. It doesn't matter how he discovered it, he said he found it and attacked her for it. It's that simple. In today's age facebook is everything that the phone/im used to be. I don't understand the point as the only difference I see between you and her is that you didnt get caught?

Oh my god are you this ignorant? I mean seriously? The point of punishment is to give repercussions to your actions so that you can take responsibility for what you did wrong. It teaches you to think things through and understand actions have impacts. As a growing kid which doesn't stop until you're 25, lessons like this have to be learned, but to to this extreme is pretty ridiculous.

It's you who doesn't understand anything I'm saying. I mean seriously it's talking to a wall at this point. The child doesn't deserve necessarily that treatment and justifing said treatment based on a single persons perspective is ignorant. Compare, contrast, and understand both parties. She probably doesn't care but he know's he overreacted and she knows he'll cool off after a month.

Guess what the laptop she brought with her own money was NOT USEABLE battery was old or dead since he replaced that the power cord I'm gonna assume was broken so even if the battery wasn't dead she would only have hours left on it anyway and the software upgrade I'm gonna assume that entails a new OS the updated versions of word power point etc the only thing she owned of that laptop was the frame it came in. laptop she might of owned it but I'll say again who supplies the place you keep it the internet to use the electricity that charges it. Yea two of those fall under the obligation of a parent but I can simply stop you from charging it or even keeping it in the house.

Your not looking at both perspectives your looking at the same one I am your only assuming what the girl feels like based on her angry rant at her parents. YOUR the one when needs to open his eyes.

Umm is a mannerism of trying to remember something not oh let me make this up. Your entire argument is based on the fact that everything the girl has said is true from an ANGRY rant post anger tends to lead you to blow things out of proportion as she did with the list of chores she had to do she didn't have to clean the entire house for example it was just her room and her own laundry. The father wasn't comparing what he did as a kid to her in that way hes saying I had all these responsibility that I had to fulfill you have a very little to do and yet you complain. It doesn't seem little to her but in reality outside of her own little bubble people in THIS day and age do a lot more then her and would probably tell to get over it.

It isn't a opinion it is fact that this type of thing has happened before the only thing I'm assuming is that a conversation took place about why you shouldn't be doing that.

Perhaps opinion was a bad choice of words more like speculation. All of your evidence is based on the post he read it's like you didn't hear his responses to the claims in her post by the way it's where I'm getting my information from. All your educated assessment is that of an angry 15 going on 16 year old girl.

Posting it on facebook in the first place is what allowed her to be caught there are other ways to vent to other people and have a much less chance of being caught and this happening in the first place. I already listed a few

I never once said this was the punishment that needed to be handed out I did say however that a punishment needed to be handed out. I think we all agree that bullets to a laptop is a bit extreme. Then again he did just spend all that money fixing it for her only to find out one of the things shes done with it.

Yea two of those fall under the obligation of a parent but I can simply stop you from charging it or even keeping it in the house.

So $130 from it looks like close to a 1k laptop then makes it belong to him? So wait, if I lay down any type of money towards anyones property it belongs to me? okay. And you're right but he didn't take those things away he destroyed HER property. Just because my computer runs off my parents electric bill doesn't mean if I do something wrong they take away MY property, they take away their property that fuels it. See that's how an adult thinks.

The Great One Wrote:Your not looking at both perspectives your looking at the same one I am your only assuming what the girl feels like based on her angry rant at her parents. YOUR the one when needs to open his eyes.

Of course because the rant is a significant piece of information just as the fathers is. What I ignore her perspective of her rant because it might have been overexaggerated? The same could be said to the father. So no man, you need to reevaluate your deductive reasoning because it's pretty much shyt right now.

The Great One Wrote:Umm is a mannerism of trying to remember something not oh let me make this up.

It's litterally a distraction so that your listening audiance is keeping its attention on you while you try to recover what you're trying to say. This pretty much means his chores are probably not known even to him off the top of his head. Therefore, even in his fit, that such information is probably inaccurate. The rant was not done as a public speech and was personal, it's potentially more accurate in terms of base truths not exact detail or impact. In general the girls rant is probably more accurate then the fathers who does pretty piss poor with speaking to an audience. Hence his stuttering. These mannerisms help determine who was more collected, and it most likely was in fact the girl.

The Great One Wrote:Your entire argument is based on the fact that everything the girl has said is true from an ANGRY rant post anger tends to lead you to blow things out of proportion as she did with the list of chores she had to do she didn't have to clean the entire house for example it was just her room and her own laundry.

If you read my entire argument is not about the girl, it's actually about the inaccuracy of the father mainly. The girls perspective is just as valuable to the conversation as the fathers response. I'm not saying everything she entirely said was valid, but that perspective she has is important because that's how she see's things. Just as the father sees everything different, such as lack of responsibility on her part vs a huge workload on hers. So no that isn't my entire argument and I'd be much more grateful if you read what I wrote.

The Great One Wrote:It isn't a opinion it is fact that this type of thing has happened before the only thing I'm assuming is that a conversation took place about why you shouldn't be doing that.

Who's arguing that? Present me proof that he had a conversation not a demand against her concerning this incident. So no your argument isn't fact it's an assumption they had a heart to heart in order to resolve this, not him demanding she simply stop. I look at the opposite possibility considering she not only did it again, but she was much more rash about it.

The Great One Wrote:Perhaps opinion was a bad choice of words more like speculation. All of your evidence is based on the post he read it's like you didn't hear his responses to the claims in her post by the way it's where I'm getting my information from. No it's based off a specific video and a specific rant when tied together with the generalization of a teenagers attitude along with property. Your information was answering a single question of how he found it, which really is a small piece of the argument and doesn't balance it in your favor in anyway.

The Great One Wrote:Posting it on facebook in the first place is what allowed her to be caught there are other ways to vent to other people and have a much less chance of being caught and this happening in the first place. I already listed a few

So in two sentences you completely forfeited the argument. You just said it's normal for teenagers to do this but how she did it was wrong, not her actual action. Therefore you justify the rant, just that she should have been done a better job at hiding it? Hey guess what lesson she learned after all this, the typical teenage response towards scenarios like this which you support, hide it better. Congratulations.

No you said punishment, the point is to take away. That isn't punishment at all. I never claimed you disagreed or agreed with it at all.

So yelling at her and grounding her is talking and trying to understand each others' problems?

The Great One Wrote:There are more ways to take out anger then blast your parents on the internet for the whole world to see.

There's a reason why she shared it in private with her friends. Not to let the whole world to see.

Sitting down and talking about each other's problems is not kissing up to each other's butts.

Unfortunately, your posts completely assumes she's an ignorant, rebellious teenager and that the only trustworthy source is the dad. You also say that people shouldn't assume, yet you assumed all that about her laptop.

Blowing up a possession is not popping someone's little bubble. You do know that it can make her go deeper into her little bubble, right? As for the "people in THIS day and age..." thing, what if she was just sharing it to her friends so she can get over it?

I can agree on this (it being extreme), but a talk between the two would have been most ideal. =)
