As a guy going into IT, I fear for my children. (If i have any)

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.

In all honestly, this guy is awesome and I wish everyone was like him. I just love people that give zero shits about what other people think.

Sarah Wrote:Edit: what the pineapple are you talking about Locked? He doesn't belittle her once in that video. He explains what she does that she claims is "so much work" and compares it to what he had to do while growing up. He doesn't call her any names like a spoiled little brat or anything. He's not talking down to her.

He also stated that she has DONE THIS BEFORE and that they've told her to STOP. They HAVE talked to her. She didn't listen.

Did you watch this video? He calls her a lazy ass, how is that not belittling? Oh, and also called her stupid by implying she doesn't remember her own chores.

I'll say a different point I told to Keith on Steam. That kid is going to hate her dad. By showing in the video that he's said this to her before, "If you do this one more time, I will shoot your laptop" and actually going through with it this instils the thought that the father is a supposed "man of his word" and that his thought of her being grounded for 3 years (until age 18) is not something he is going to joke about.

Are you saying that parents need to earn respect from their children?

I guess a roof over their head, food to eat, and clothes on their back doesn't automatically qualify them for respect?

Complaining about chores that literally only seem to take at most 30 minutes and refusing to get a job is quite lazy.

She is a lazyass. And if she doesn't remember her chores it's not an insult, it's necessary in order to make her remember them, and if she feels stupid then good, maybe it will motivate her to be a little bit better of a person.

The whole purpose of this video is to HUMILIATE THE DAUGHTER.

Do you people even think about what the daughter is feeling in this situation or are you going to sit in your damn circlejerk thinking this is the best way to handle this situation?

No, it doesn't. But doing things like upgrading her computer and buying her other frivolous items certainly does. He doesn't seem like a particularly bad guy.

@Locked: My dad was a hardass and quite childish out of anger sometimes too. I got over it and love him anyway.

I think you're inferring too much of what kind of person he is solely from this video. He was HURT because his daughter disrespected him repeatedly. He, as most parents these days do, felt hopeless. It is clear from this video. And because of that, he came up with a punishment that he felt would almost assuredly work.

I'm sure he'll have regrets about posting this online pretty quickly because that part was almost certainly a mistake but what's done is done. His daughter will hate him for a while but that probably won't last forever because eventually she'll get wiser and realise that she was being a shithead teenager and that he was trying to do something right. And he only said he name so it's not like her image is attached to this rant. It won't follow her for life beyond her high school but that's no different then your parent coming to a school dance and embarrassing you.

As he said, she's not even going to HAVE a PC, so she won't be able to view it. And if she does and complains in any way, he will know she isn't taking her punishment seriously and is just going to other people's PCs, and will punish her even more. As he should. So, it's not really for her, it's for her faggy little friends that encouraged her and their parents that are too scared of their own kids to do what he did.

Oh, posting it on her facebook was a horrible mistake. I forgot about that. That was absolutely wrong.

It's one thing to show other parents who are having similar issues (because trust me, MANY, MANY, MANY parents are. And it carries over into adulthood if left unchecked.) But showing it to her friends was ridiculous because it doesn't accomplish anything.

What the daughter feels? How about the parents?

"Whenever you're unable to wipe your ass, and you need my help, I won't be there." Or something along those lines.

Don't you think that's a slap in the face? Here I've provided for my child, only to have it all thrown back in my face because she's ungrateful for what I've given her. Words hurt even if they're empty.

But, go ahead with your thinking that everyone here thinks this was the best way to handle the situation. Just because people are empathizing with the father doesn't mean they'd handle it in the same way.

Which is right here.

Listen. I don't give two sh`its about the daughter really. I'm just saying the way the dad handled it is bad.

He also provided the link to her Facebook page in the video, I'm pretty sure. Major mistake.

Oops. It was his own, not hers.

I thought he was putting it on her facebook wall too? If he didn't that's slightly disappointing.

Okay. I just read some of the facebook comments and he said:
Quote:I actually considered selling it on eBay, but decided against it. She bought it with her money. For us to sell it and take the money, in my mind anyways, is just theft, even from my own kid.

What a di`ck move. F`uck this guy man.

It actually doesn't matter if she bought the laptop or not. Once you give someone a gift, it is theirs.

Oh, she bought it with her own money? If it were a first offense I would say he went too far, but since it isn't, I still support his decision.

I don't really consider a 15 year old's laptop from a parent a gift so much as a rental that you pay for by not being a shithead.

But the fact that SHE bought it is definitely a game-changer. Taking it away is one thing but shooting it was very, very wrong. Guy went way overboard.

Keep in mind, since she's never had a job, it's not -really- her money, it's gift money that she had saved.
Gift money is gift money, your money is money you worked to earn.

Not only would the laptop have been broken had he not fixed and spent >>>his money<<< on it, but she would have had it taken away had he decided not to shoot it anyway. By the time she would have gotten it back (3 years later, assuming he would still keep his word about grounding her for that long) it would be too outdated for selling it to accomplish much.

Still supporting him.
