By the time this thread gets to the 3rd page, we'll have a 50 category list with 1 game to go into each one.

Minecraft is out. Game of the Year Best Nintendo Wii Game Best PlayStation 3 Game Best XBOX 360 Game Best PC Game Best (3)DS Game Best PSP Game Best Indie Game Best Online Multiplayer Best Update to a Multiplayer Game Best Story Best Visuals Best Music Most Creative Game (Overall) Most Anticipated Most Disappointing I've removed protagonist/antagonist because this was mostly a year of remakes and sequels. While they do feature some new characters, I just couldn't think of enough examples to justify these categories Best update may seem a little out there but there were quite a few good expansions this year in games like Starcraft, WoW, Maple, DFO, etc. I don't think enough people care about mobile games for them to deserve a category. Best remake would go to Zelda regardless of what else came out so... Anyway, there's your list. Send in your nominations now. Via PM. 4 per group. All from 2011.

Finishing the last assassin creed released i was going to suggest a new joke category, Most longest credits you cant skip

Organizing by genre rather than platform makes more sense given the number of multi-platform releases these days. You could have a separate list or category for portable.
Plus I don't play console games :/

Well, they are the Southperry gaming awards so what do you guys think? Genre or platform?

I'm mostly for genre, although platform can matter too.
Gonna go for genre.

I got a question before PMing nominations, for best games of each console, do multiplatform games count? Or only exclusives?

I figured the answer to this would be yes but then I started doing logistics in my head and splitting the votes could cause well-deserving games to be ignored, so I think we'll add a best multiplatform category IF people choose to go with platforms over genres. Hold off on sending in any nominations right now.

Oh a serious category suggestion: Best Trilogy.
But then again these are not released in a year time lul.

Hold off on sending in any nominations right now. It's for this reason that I think we should do both platform and genre, with platform obviously having only exclusives. It might make the list a bit too long (and what genres would we do anyway?), but it just seems odd to me to have a multiplatform game win the best of a platform, if that makes sense?

Regarding genres we'd just take the big ones? FPS, strategy, and so on? If genres are included ofcourse.

We're not doing a ton of genres no matter what because that's needlessly excessive. We can toss on fps/rpg/action-adventure with the latter covering both action and adventure (and platforming would fall under this) because from everything I've seen in the VG forum, that's what SP is mostly into. There aren't enough new strategy games this year to justify a category. Hell, there were barely enough RPGs this year to justify that category.
So I'll add those three and multiplatform to the list unless someone gives a good reason not to or a decent alternative.

I like this idea the best. Awards by genre + additional categories for platform exclusives.

If you count TD games as Strategy, enough have probably come out to warrant a category, but it's not something I'm actually attached enough to to really argue for. And then I'd also suggest Shmup/Bullet Hell and Fighter categories, since SP seems to generally be into those as well. I agree with Ray's suggestions as well. |
