Depends. If you're going there for tourism, it's idiotic to ask people questions in a language they can barely speak. They just go there to go to places and spend money, what else do you need to know? If it is for another thing, like the Summer Work and Travel I'm doing, well yeah, you should be able to speak a thing or two.

It was a tourism visa, but I ocasionaly travel there on "Semana santa" (In april) to visit some of my uncles and cousins.

I've never done any visa because I'm Unauthorized Intruder. And from this thread, I feel lucky I haven't.

I don't know yet. I'll be staying in a hostel for a week and then we'll find a rent house with my roommates.

Had my appointment today. The people were nice and it all went well. Gave my documents, answered a few questions, gave my hand print, visa's in the mail =]
