Deleted Characters Being Reviewed
SaptaZapta Wrote:Name changes are unavailable at the moment, discounted or otherwise.
Fixed.

I forgot about that.
Not like they can't do it manually.

Thank you, fixed.

And I don't know whether they can. If they could, why would they stop making money on it?

Also for more database fun, even with them restoring deleted characters, they seem to be unable to restore any character links like guilds and Empress buffs.

or at least thats what someone told hime. Part of me actually feels bad for her. gotta be hard trying to communicate halfway across the planet with the techs and not get half the information needed to get people off your back.

Then again....

These techs would be local support staff. Not the developers in Korea.

Surely they should have done a thorough database back up before running a query to delete multiple characters...

It isn't the fact that they ran the query that bothers me, it's the fact that they can't reverse it.

They can. It's what is colloquially known as a "rollback", and is actually a restore from savepoint/backup.

However, they did not decide to do this as soon as the problem came to their attention, about two hours after server-up. Why?
Nobody knows. I'm going to go with "they went to ask permission from some head exec, who roared 'we don't rollback!'" for various reasons of corporate pride or w/e.
As time went by, with the game open, more and more things were changing. People were leveling, scrolling, cubing, trading, buying stuff in cash shop and mts, charging NX (these last are particularly troublesome because cash-related databases are separate from game database and linked to the real world), and so on.
The longer the game stays up, the more problematic it is to "roll back".
Eventually they decided to try and copy only the data of the deleted characters from the backup, instead of overwriting the whole database.
This is what they are doing now. Gotta pray real hard they don't foul it up, because they have never done it before.

*prays real hard*

I just fail to see the compulsion to delete the whole characters. It's too pompous for a staff with such little skill to back it up. If you know there's a chance you mess up and accidentally delete legit players, limit yourself to ban accounts, and unban those legit ones you affected after they complain about it, giving them a pat in the head and 10k Maple Points, then everyone would be happy.

But no, it's gotta be "DUR DELEAT THE EBIL HEKKERZ!!1 WE R PROFFESIONALS"

On the lighter side of things,

This item cannot be moved to the Cash Inventory. except if Nexon deletes your character by accident.

All my Permanent Emotes from the Charm quests were in the Cash Shop as well, and those cannot be moved into the Cash Shop either, lol.

Do people get their equips back from deleted chars (regular equips, not CS)?

Yeah, my Paladin has all of his equipment and items back. The only thing that isn't the same is that Nexon's website tells me he can't be my main because he's under level 10, which I reached 150 levels ago.

It should be fixed when the rankings update. It still shows me off ranks.

Mine is now "blocked from the game while the Account is being reviewed" until November 12th.
Looks like they ARE doing something.

I know, I have a UA with unreleased hair and evan eyes sitting on an alt account that got 5k maple points, an almost free %60 GFA (NLC quest) and bonus 100% GFA scrolls from the event. (I made it for the lols, and don't intend on using it)

Nexon can't do anything right XD

So after I saw this thread yesterday, I went to check the rankings to see if my UE Bowmaster got deleted (I haven't had access to the game for the past two months, so I couldn't check any other way). Surely enough, it was. I just checked again and my character is back on the rankings, except it's now a male wearing warrior armor and some random NX...I can't log into the game to see what my actual character looks like. Someone please tell me this is a common glitch Frown

Are you sure it was the actual you, and not someone else who used the same name you used to have?

When Nexon does things like this it's possible for the same name to exist twice but only be visible on ranks via search once.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.
