Will gach, cubes etc. soon become illegal?
No, its definitely the cube that changes the stats. Remember that hack that showed the contents of the hidden potential before you used a magnifying glass.

Exidous Wrote:Cute. Did you miss that whole part where this is about regulating gambling, not loss from gambling? Yeah, you did. Save it for the threads where people are whining about getting hacked and suing Nexon. You might buy into their small claims court defense and I suppose I do too, but instead of going for the snark you could try reading next time.

...I think it's you who's missing the point as cubes are gambling, gachapon, scrolling, even pam song's are not.

Exidous Wrote:With that reasoning all Nexon would have to do is post a cube % result list and be all right with the world. That's obviously not the issue here. The existence of (mostly bad) outcomes in exchange for money is.

No what would make this a legitimate process, as I tried to explain to you is the fact you're spending 1.2k nx, which is credit that is a representation of money. If the cubes were dropped, or obtained in any other way besides cash shop and special events involving cash shop, then it can't anymore than gambling. Your example of gacha is actually the one bringing up this loss point, but that isn't right either. Gachapon isn't a gamble, it specifically says you put one in and get a randomly selected item. I don't recall gambling taxes on actual gachapon machines, but that's just me.

Exidous Wrote:The GRB isn't wholesale saying you can't peddle gambling to kids online, I wish they would - instead they're taking a more restrained view. But my argument is that the difference between cubes and scrolls is merely in degree, not nature. Both are gambles, and both are backed by real money when Nexon designs NX for in game purposes. Whether its a gamble with full information doesn't change the nature.

If they come down on Nexon over this, it'll probably just be cubes because of how low probability the rewards are. But when you've got things like the microwave event going on the argument that scrolls aren't gambling with real money wears awfully thin.

Just how bad a gamble is it okay to peddle to children? Just how bad a gamble is it okay to peddle at all when you aren't a casino or treated as such by law?

You aren't understanding that scrolls are obtainable outside of NX, period. They are common drops (or as common as rare items get) nexon's cubing service is considered gambling because you're paying directly out of pocket, excluding MTS, to upgrade your stats. The way they would fix this would be making cubes droppable. Well, I should say, avoid this "possible" now law's effect, it wouldn't fix the game. If you read the article it's about obtaining stats only through cash shop related items that involve chance. Scrolls in no way fall in this category.

Lol it'd actually be kind of funny if Nexon had to change their cube cash cow to something more fair to players. What I find funny about it, is if this happened, I'd probably go buy more nx than I have been lololololol.

Thats what I've been thinking "who cares, if they become illegal they're only gonna be removed in kMS", just look at how many cash things we have that kMS doesn't and it all started with what used to be permanent on kMS only lasted 3 months here.

Good, the removal of them means one step closer to saving the game from the retarded potential system lol.

But unless NexonK changes everything in the game so the cubes are useless it wont matter and its likely that if they did that jMS would become the main version with kMS having a special patch only for them on the removal/change of cubes/potential and if in Japan also becomes illegal they would move to America all because the cubes are IMO the golden cash cow, people spends hundreds of them before noticing while with gach its likely you would end up with you inventory full way before you hit a hundred.

You know, if they were to do something drastic, like taking out the potential system all together for example (shut up, I can dream), then I'd probably play a hell of a lot more often than I do now. I doubt Nexon would care much though, since I only have like $343 to spare right now and can't afford to use any of it on NX; thus, I'm essentially just using up server space and not helping Nexon at all. Still, it really pisses me off that the developers in Korea allowed something so game breaking to hit the live servers, and I can only imagine what horrors the Legendary tier has unleashed in KMS.

Or maybe, to scape this lawsuit-inducing stuff, they just make cubes droppable. But at a rate so low, that it wouldn't even be noticed.

If potential didn't exist a lot of bosses would be impossible.

Naw, make it like pot scroll and it should be fine, not too rare nor common and drops from a whole bunch of different mobs.

Kinda off-topic but the other day I was saying that they should make a cube with a 25% of working drop from mobs and a noob guildmate said "people will no longer buy cubes" Big Grin, like pam songs don't sale at all.

Gonna go slightly off topic here:
Nah, nexon america won't have to worry about lawsuits anymore.

In good (/sarcasm) news, the crazy american legal system has decided it's completely fine to put a "You agree not to sue us" clause in Terms and Conditions for using online gaming services. Sony and EA have already added them to their TOS. I expect to see it appear in global maplestory Terms soon.

I would love for cubes to have a small drop rate (on level with pot/enhancements would be fine) from every monster, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

Which points to another flaw in this game: Nexon designs bossess to be beatable only with the assistance of NX.

If cubes and gachapon wont be taken out, I hope at least this was dealt with.

If seduce/damage reflect/pot cooldown didn't exist a lot of bosses would be a lot easier and wouldn't need (a lot of) potential.

Right now the only boss that's legitimately "hard" is the 1.65bs. Everything else is easy.

tl;dr on the thread, but I gotta say it is nice to know at least some people outside of the Maple community know about the absurd gambling that Nexon is promoting.

So aside from the gambling items, what else does Nexon have to offer in the cash shop? Weddings (apples), item/character/pendant slots, fashion items, pets w/ equips, etc. If gambling items were gone tomorrow, I think Nexon would do alright and still survive as they had in the past. In any case, there would still be the MTS to satiate the power-hungry.

PB and beyond were / are designed around Potential. Why else was PB impossible until we got the system?

Knowing NEXON, they will make it so you can buy a Boss Damage +30% cube for 7,000,000 NX. No chance involved, and still money for NEXON. Removal is not going to happen.

It'll remove the gambling aspect at least, which is the main concern at the moment.
Still think the "Choose your own stats for NX" method is one of the better choices if this happens to hit.

I'm starting to like Korea's government more and more.
