Archer Hero Confirmed? New Pirate and Resistance Chars?
Viaje Wrote:Ballista/mortar play-style? Yes, please!

My problem with ranged classes is that they all play the same (not that close-range are that different).
Why not have a class that doesn't fire straight forward?
For one, it would give more meaning to kick-back skills. It would also mean having to pay more attention to your positioning.

I just wanna say, isn't Vlaje trying to say that Mystic Knights should not JUST be limited to enchanting their weapons with elements, but also allow them to smack stuff around with awe inducing magic?

I want a duel one hand axe class. That would be so goddam sick.

That would be cool. Since Nexon doesn't actually care about balance, maybe they'll implement your idea! Tongue I think that class should definitely have a tornado spin skill as well.

or have it be dual master Rolleyes dual axe/mace/sword/str dagger

Not entirely, his main argument is him trying to debunk my classification of WKs being Mystic Knights. He pretty much boiled it down to "White Knights can never be Mystic Knights, because they lack a ranged spell.", which is kinda true, because "Sanctuary" is technically a ranged "spell", but not a full-fledged one, aka throwing elemental orbs at enemies from a distance.

Only if they were Tomahawks and you could throw them at stuff.

And nothing of value would be lost.

White Wrote:Metaphors don't necessarily have to be perfect. It's the nature of the representation.
The "nature of the representation" in your metaphor was non-existent.
There's a difference between an imperfect metaphor and a metaphor that in no way describes the situation/object which it was intended to represent.

White Wrote:Not talking about all. Talking about the two/three being compared.
Have you given up on complete sentences?

White Wrote:Whoa whoa whoa, why so mean? Who says I was talking about you when I said common sense doesn't attach itself to some people? Oh no, did you just assume? I never said your name. Notice how it was a different paragraph, a demonstration of a possible different line of thought.
It's something big kids do called "contextualizing".

If your thoughts are indeed that sporadic and disconnected, then perhaps you should consult a mental health specialist.

Sorien Wrote:I'm going to go ahead and agree with Dark Link here.

So here are a bunch of little snippets of information that may help the argument about White Knights/Paladins being "Mystic Knights."
Go and agree with the person who thinks that something from one game is something from another game.

sorien Wrote:As DL said, Mystic Knights are able to imbue their weapons with magic. You, Viaje, used Link's use of magical items (items imbued with magic) to try and give an example of what a Mystic Knight should be, and why White Knights don't fit the description.
Um, bullpomegranate, sir.
I never used Link to give an example of what a "Mystic Knight" should be. Congratulations on failing your reading comprehension test. You can leave now.

sorien Wrote:Viaje, you also used Link's spells as an example of what a Mystic Knight should be.
Again, bullpomegranate.
I never used Link to give an example of what a "Mystic Knight" should be.

As for your 'examples', ever other melee class has counterparts to every skill you pulled from the Paladin class. Some are getting more.
You've only shown that you missed my point entirely.
Thankfully, there are some who can actually follow a conversation before stupidly jutting in their half-informed opinion.

You. Are. Dumb.
I wasn't trying to debunk your classification of WKs as Mystic Knights.
I asserted: WKs are not Mystic Knights, and here's why.
Not having ranged spells is a why.
Not being created by Square Enix is another why.

My original argument was actually that Paladins aren't close to being the sort of magic warriors that Maplestory is capable of producing, but that was lost in by your insistence on sucking Squeenix's plantain.

THIS IS MAPLESTORY, GODDAMMIT.
Stop using proper nouns from other games to limit what can be.

I didn't realize I was wasting internets by separating what should be separate thoughts.
Glad you wisely used a post to try to tell me not to make extraneous posts.

Have you considered that the Paladin intention was a mystic knight by the developers, thus the person you should be clarifying with is nexon the company?

I spent an hour looking for a cached copy of the original white knight description for the release of 3rd job, but to no avail, however it clearly said it was a magic using warrior. Your definition could be very well correct, but in nexon's universe it isn't.

That would be awesome, but I'm getting tired of them adding weapons. It's unnecessary when there are weapons that just aren't fully used.

I'd love this idea if it meant that they would just have it so that particular class is coded so that when you equip a 1H axe, your character is shown wielding two of the same axe.

Oh, I've considered it. However, intentions aren't actions.
Paladins were also likely meant to be the defensive class, but they weren't actually especially defensive until Big Bang.

Keep in mind, in your second paragraph, that I never once claimed that White Knights don't use magic.
In fact, that'd be moronic since they quite clearly do.
My argument was that they don't use magic to the extent or in a way that would distinguish themselves from all the other melee classes that use magic in one way or another.

On most forums double posting is against the rules, and while it is not part of the rules of this forum most times double posts get merged.

Viaje Wrote:And nothing of value would be lost.

Lost? The only thing lost would be the ability to post in this thread, which I would consider a loss as some people are bringing up interesting ideas pertinent to the discussion, and that's worthwhile.

Viaje Wrote:The "nature of the representation" in your metaphor was non-existent.

I suppose you don't see what I was demonstrating with my metaphor. What I was trying to get across is that some people deliberately ignore that cold beverages may induce a brain freeze and subsequently impair their ability to function in some capacity, and then try and get something out of that from the owner/person/company that sold them the beverage. It's what we call frivolous litigation.

I think where you are getting caught up is the idea that I was somehow applying that to you. Which isn't something I explicitly did.

Viaje Wrote:Have you given up on complete sentences?

Oh, there are so many things I could say here. Grammar nazism, quotes of comma splices/run-ons/sentence fragments from your own posts, perhaps i'll just settle for addressing the issue of general forum etiquette. That involves things like the minimization of excessive capital letters, using periods and paragraphs....not double posting *cough*. In general, using the language in a proper and understandable way so as to facilitate the optimal and clear concise flow of information to readers.

To answer your question directly, yes. I'm only slightly sorry if that bothers you

Viaje Wrote:It's something big kids do called "contextualizing".

Sounds like a fancy word for assuming.

You contextualize that I was saying you don't have common sense, right?

I'll contextualize that Paladins and Magic Knights are similar, but yet slightly different interpretations of the same idea by two different companies. My context is that i've played LoZ:OOC, Maplestory, and FF games.

Viaje Wrote:If your thoughts are indeed that sporadic and disconnected, then perhaps you should consult a mental health specialist.

I appreciate your concern for my mental health and well-being *munches on oreos*.

Viaje Wrote:Go and agree with the person who thinks that something from one game is something from another game.

I don't think anyone is saying that Paladins are Magic Knights. The debate was whether they were similar, and they are. Games have overlap, there's no reason for one character in one game to not be associated with a similar character in another game.

Viaje Wrote:You. Are. Dumb

That is entirely uncalled for. Just because you don't agree with someone elses opinion does, in no way, entitle you to make a statement reflecting their intelligence. Saying, perhaps, "I believe You. Are. Dumb." would more effectively communicate your frustration, while not flagrantly attacking someone. The more appropriate way of addressing this issue, in your shoes, would be to say something along the lines of, "I believe your position in this debate is mistaken, and dumb." In that way you are communicating, in a calm and effective way, that the person isn't dumb but rather their beliefs are mistaken.

Viaje Wrote:My original argument was actually that Paladins aren't close to being the sort of magic warriors that Maplestory is capable of producing, but that was lost in by your insistence on sucking Squeenix's plantain.

Contextualize all you want but the first part of your sentence has nothing to do with the second part.

Viaje Wrote:THIS IS MAPLESTORY, GODDAMMIT.
Stop using proper nouns from other games to limit what can be.

Dark Link doesn't produce the content, he's not limiting what Maplestory can be. He's merely assimilating the information he's picked up from his casual gaming to make a more clear and total portrait.

Viaje Wrote:Don't tell me what to do. I will double post if the posts concern two different things all the hell I want.

Eh, might not be a good idea. Do as you wish though. I looked over the rules and there is no official rule that says you can't double post. Just one of those unwritten rules that everyone knows anyway. I use the word "everyone" selectively.

Viaje Wrote:I didn't realize I was wasting internets by separating what should be separate thoughts.

You use a different post, I use the space between paragraphs. To each their own I suppose. *cough*

I was thinkin that they could use two seperate axes. Have the damage multiplier compensate for the insane high weapon attack.

Like with mages, .85 damage multiplier because they can get legit weapons with over 200 magic attack.

I don't think it's possible though, for them to make those 1h axe's have a different multiplier just because of the character it's on. Although, no one uses 1h axes anyway. Heros are the only ones that can use axes and they don't, lol. So, maybe a small multiplier, like .4 or something, on the secondary axe would make it ok?

Or they could just adjust said jobs skills to fit it? :p

I just wanna say. The idea of a cannon pirate sounds like failure to me. MS players have proven through the years that no matter how strong a class is, they will pick a faster one and make it strong through fundings. For a cannon class to make any sense (although looking for sense in MS is dumb) the class would have to deal huge amounts of damage while lacking a lot of mobility (aren't corsairs just like that?).

And as I already stated in the other thread about the archer legend using dual xbow-guns, I think it's stupid. I would much rather it to be the pirate legend than the archer one.
Reply
For dual weapons i suppose they could add both the attacks of the individual weapons and average them then add like 4 or 5 more depending on whatever the hell they felt like) Then it would essentially mean that the character would have 1 weapon while wielding 2. Then proceed with the normal formula.
