Sure, all of the information is in a supermassive database that would be impossible to browse normally, but if they want your information and know your name, they already have it. As long as they don't start abusing it (IE, randomly searching and arresting people without a warrant or reason), I'm actually fine with it, they need the information, gathering data can be a long process that they won't always have when trying to apprehend a criminal.
Exactly, I don't know why you guys are worried and pomegranate. And it's not like they'll really CARE to be honest.
Our legal system allows for all this information to be kept confidential unless the subject has done something illegal or extreme. Plus, it's not just about facebook, they have your credit records, medical records, tax history, etc. So don't think this is something new.

People live life unaware of this stuff. They think because it's a free country that they can do whatever. Freedom =/= privacy.

Is the PATRIOT Act to blame for this?

This. If they don't get the information from Facebook, they'll get it from the ISPs.

You still have the freedom to choose to buy these products or not. I'd agree with you if it were a government forced mandate.

My only concern is the nightmare, highly unlikely scenario. Where the government does begin to limit certain rights we have, like freedom of speech, using 'security' as an excuse. This all would be bad cause all the tools to enforce it would be in place, and making protest extremely difficult.
Long as america doesn't slowly turn all 1984 on us, then this is no big deal.

If anything in life worries me is some weirdo breaking into my house late at night or anything happening to my parents, other than that I'm fine.
Delicae and Flonne did all the work and wrote my point. Why would anyone be scared if the CIA gathers more information about people?
Conspiracy theories are dumb but I have to admit theyre interesting sometimes.[/SIZE]

I lost a lot of faith in Southperricans reading this thread. Interesting how you're all completely okay with the fact that you have no more privacy than a lab rat. Think you do? Think again. This is just one of the other ways that your government hawks your every move. America has long lost it's status as a free country, and your "safety" as it were, has cost you more than it ever needed to.
On a side note: I have been looking for a way to delete my facebook for at least 5 months, however, I'm told I can only deactivate it. This wasn't true when I signed up for it, and I was wondering if there is a way to do that.

i feel like the CIA probably already has a great deal of information on me without needing facebook. something tells me the Central Intelligence Agency has other avenues of information other than social networking sites. besides, don't want someone to have your information, don't put it on facebook. that's true for everyone, not just the CIA.

Why are you guys so worried? Do you all commit crimes on a daily basis that you don't want the CIA knowing and arresting you for?

If your so paranoid about privacy why do you even have a computer? Your one of those people that believe the government is out to get them. Your able to sit on your computer and post what you think without having to look over your shoulder. Their are people that live in certain areas where they have to sleep with one eye open because they are rob daily. Your selfish for taking your "safety" so lightly. Some people dont even wake up to see another day in other places and your mocking america "safety" and freedom. What cant you do in america?
