Golden Sun Series Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason he wasn't playable is because they ran out of time. IF another smash bros game comes out, it's almost guarenteeable that issac will be playable

Ah yes I remember this game. Yea it is one of the best RPG's I've ever played.
but the overall gameplay was somewhat confusing.
I can't seem to beat Dullahan, the boss in Anemos Inner Sanctum coz his annoying Charon summon keeps owning me Rolleyes.
I tried a summon rush but it doesn't seem 2 work for me so I gave up on trying to get the iris summon Rolleyes.
Overall good game but I reckon Dullahan should be slightly nerfed especially his 'Charon summon' shouldn't instant KO at times ...

Your party must have been hella' weak. I took out Dullahan in two turns, and I believe there's a vid on youtube showing how you can beat him without even having him attack once.

well of course you'd lose, your guys need to be at least 45+ to survive and Dullahans attacks. If you plan to summon rush, you should at least know what you're doing...
All your party characters must be faster than dullahan and they also must be wearing equips that enhance their elemental power that they're going to summon. (eg. Mia using clear bracelet and pure circlet for the Azul summon).

I suggest read the guide I posted on Strategywiki Golden Sun 2 Anemos Sanctum Guide. The boss guide there is helpful.

Great series, but the game got kind of broken toward the end. Skills became useless, it was just picking a Djinn setup for each character and mashing the A button, because you could crit on half your attacks, and your crits caused much more damage than your skills. And the fact that summon rushing actually works is lame, I prefer to actually fight Dullahan.

No MMO please. WoW ruined Warcraft for me.

:X Lol I made it through both without using any walkthroughs/guides. However, I eventually did go and look up more detailed things (like I wanted see all the weapons in the game, etc). Yeah, there was times where I was stuck for several hours, but I always figured out where to go/what to do eventually. That's the fun of games!

Golden Sun is my favorite RPG series, too! I absolutely loved them. I played through the first one four times and the second one five times! I have no doubts I'll run through them again some day. Excellent story and gameplay. <3

*points to "Felix" part of name* Betcha didn't know that's where it came from!

Anyone who can finish the entire Eastern Sea section without reading a walkthrough deserves a HUGE kudos. My hat off to you.

I know I would be totally incapable of finishing it without some sort of guidance. Heck, I probably will get owned by the Serpent over and over again wondering where did I go wrong. (On other hand, I did manage to beat Serpent with only three lights on once. It was funny. I should try 2 lights next.)

Thanks. :O

I remember the first time I fought the Serpent. LOL I didn't have any of those lights shining on it (I had no idea >_>, heck they put the boss right at the beginning!). It kept recovering more HP than I could do in damage each round. I was like, WTH?!!! What kind of broken stupid boss is this?! Things weren't pretty, needless to say. And then I went and explored. "Ohhhhh..."

I did that as well DarkestTempest...
I could beat him with 2 lights on with a mad summon rush, all my characters at this time were 30+ (though it wasn't necessary). I dunno if I can take it on without summons with 2 lights, it's very unlikely given the amount of HP he recovers.
Fighting the serpent with 1 light on is IMPOSSIBLE (unless you hack) because it'll keep recovering to full HP.

I managed GS2 without walkthrough in the eastern sea but I went through a lot of trial and error and did a LOT of stupid things like charging off to Lemuria without the Trident of Ankhol (and yes I got pwned by Poseidon and I was like literally 'wtp godmode hax!') Thankfully I didnt charge off to challenge the Serpent in Gaia Rock straightaway like you did Felix.

Other than that, I didn't have too much trouble.

I don't remember using a walkthrough at all for either game until after beating it. I used a walkthrough to figure out how to get the super rare weapons and to hunt down the last 3-4 Djinn, but other than that, the game wasn't too hard.

Yea I used a walkthrough to find the remaining Djinni.
I remember at the end of the game, I couldn't find Sour, Chill, Petra, Core and Wheeze I think. Petra was probabbly the hardest to find coz only one walkthrough explained very accurately on where it is. The others state it's in Hesperia or North West of Shaman Village. All of the djinni listed are found in the world map along with several others >.<.

I only used it to find one; Wheeze? It was the Jupiter one you had to use stop on in that cave.

That's Kite and that's in GS1. Wheeze is the one in GS2 near tundaria tower.

People actually beat the Serpent with NO lights on, actually. Apparently, turn 1 summon rush (doesn't matter the Serpent heals it all back, the elemental power boost is what's important). Turn 2 just attack with EPAs and Sylph Rapier's unleash. If the unleash hits 2x damage, the battle's win. If it doesn't, it's won in Turn 3.

It needs near max stats, though. I'd imagine they did it in Easy Mode and just transferred level 99 data.

New achievement for me: I managed to beat Star Magician with a team of level 30-32s without using any summon other than Mars (the level 1 fire summon). Probably not that big but hey, it's something...

Nice one! I can take out star magician at around 40-50 without summons. How long did it take you?

My achievement was that I managed to take down Dullahan the hard way without summoning ar around lvl 50 though my chars died several times. It took around 10mins >.<.

I can't exactly remember how long it took, but it was a LOT of rounds. probably about 20-30 minutes counting the two resets I made.

It's a pain in the ass to wait for Thunder Balls to pile up on the other side, and even more pain in the ass when I only have Wish Well to work with, and no Megiddo or some other sort of doomsday attack... most of the damage I dealt were from Isaac in Disciple class wielding a Masamune, lol. Hitting enemy's resistance element FTW >_< Garet has a Fire Brand but he had to use the whole party Resistance up skill every few round to keep them at maximum, and the other two were busy enough just healing. I had to use a few vials and even a mist potion.

People actually had to use guides to figure stuff out?

That ruins the whole purpose of a game.
