Really it's just pragmatic. We've already supposed an abandonment of all morality in doing the invasion and theft anyway.
Heartless would be logging into them, taking nothing, and deleting them in a public spectacle just for the joy of it.

Well to be honest I think the whole thing is just heartless Nor why would someone really want to ruin someone like that just for "kicks" or to get ahead. Whats gonna happen is the kids that do this will think they can get away with it in real life then end up in jail.

Unlikely. Most of them severely disconnect the internet from reality - It's all just a game to them and people online aren't even people per se so nothing they do can really hurt anyone and anyone bothered by what they do online is obviously mentally damaged already to be taking the internet seriously. They'd likely never do the sort of crap they do online in real life because there they recognize a concept of right and wrong that they don't apply online where it's just a fantasy. It leads to them being sociopaths online but relatively normal offline.

Sounds like the quiet one's in real life that you should always worry someday they will flip lids and go nuts on everyone. So that's where they get it from huh? The interwebz is the devil.

Nah, they're often fairly outgoing IRL that's why they don't consider the internet real, it's not part of their "real" social life.
The quiet ones tend to be the opposite, more strongly associating the internet with their reality.
The intersections of these two classes of belief is where some of the ugliest trolling and flame ways occur.

They have value & purpose, but only so far as they were intended.
They're meant to prevent item loss, pure and simple, through any of the numerous ways that items can be lost, including your own screw ups.
They're not an anti-hacking device, they just happen to provide a little bit of protection in that event too.
In those cases a physical key wouldn't help at all in protecting you since it was made with the account already logged.

That was rather the point, yes. Actually the CC one was even more vicious since you didn't have to be logged in, you just suddenly were logged in, or rather they were, as you.

I don't recall the entire CC and DC hacking spree. Were those examples you made up, or were they actual realistic scenarios? I always thought and have considered "remote hacking" to be completely fake and not worthy of much attention.

They happened. They were somewhat exaggerated in scope and Nexon still hasn't bothered to make recompense but they happened.

There's no sure fire way to stop hackers by any means. You crank up the security, they in turn crank up the level of damage and attack strengths. You can thwart them for a few weeks or days at best with new tactics but they still manage to find a way eventually to do what they set out to do.
The Random Number Generator ID Tag system isn't totally foolproof either. Anything like those that use an iPhone app and other such methods are limited in function as well (mainly due to not everyone having those phones) and if you lose your RNG ID tag, you might not be able to access your account until it's replaced or if stolen, if could be used against if.

They get reset every time by a push of the button per minute, as far as I've seen.

It wasn't fake. Unless you've done some research into it I suggest you keep opinions like these to yourself as you're going to annoy the hell out of those who lost everything (items, mesos and nx) through this terrible hack. The dc hacking spree you must have quit ms during because I nobody could ignore that.
As for the item locks thing, I will be more satisfied if my items were deleted than a hacker getting them.
On a side note, everyone here knows that if you blow up your wedding ring, your char cant be deleted right?

Your answer is in the previous paragraph.
On top of that, you can always get one of those who are targetting you, then you have a bit of an issue. Random hackers are turned away quite well with it.

Relax, it was in the form of a question. You're looking too much into it, if you've lost an item due to getting hacked that way, so be it. People get hacked all the time in MapleStory, in fact that's what this entire thread is about, how MapleStory handles their hacker protection.

One thing they could do as a first measure is block Proxy based IP addresses and those IP addresses originating outside the target zones of GlobalMS. Yes this would be a constant WIP to gather and dissect every possible proxy IP address but it could stop a majority of non-GlobalMS zone based hacking coming from areas deemed at times by internet security analysts as non-friendly or untrustworthy almost immediately.
There is one thing I'm curious about as to why no gaming company or companies have thought of this... hiring a 3rd party legal team representing a joint union of MMO gaming companies to go after known hackers full time. I'm fairly certain this has never been considered, but just think of the power base that could be formed if companies like Blizzard, Nexon, Square-Enix, etc. all joined forces with a 3rd party legal group to go after hackers and the communities that sponsor them both in the US and abroad.

... How do you blow up your wedding ring? What does that even have to do with Char deletion? Is that some sort of glitch?

The only problem I see with that, is that I feel like hackers can't be easily traced. Also you'll have a lot of children's parents (because from what I've seen the most annoying hackers are children) suing back at the fact that it is "just a game." Or the legal system wouldn't be able to handle it and months/years will pass before any case gets settled. See the OdinMS trial?

i believe in order to delete a character, it must be divorced if its married. if you have no ring, it can't be divorced.
and you blow it up with a scroll

OK so lets get opinions on this. I heard from my friend whos an ex hacker that once a hacker strikes an account they aren't likely to strike it again. Which seems true to me because most people I see get hacked never get hacked again0.o. I could say I'm an example but I can't>.> Only times I was hacked was first I was scammed(I was like 11 give me a break) and other times were my friends who watched me input my info and kept taking my crap>.> But what do you guys think that if your hacked your once your less likely to be hacked again?(or at least by the same person)
