Item Locks and Hacking - Cydonia - 2011-01-23 I'm still not sure I quite understand these yet. What is their purpose? You can place a lock on an item for a set amount of time, then what? It just gets released after that time? So are they meant to protect your items for the amount of time you set it for? What good comes out of doing this? Say you were hacked (by your own stupidity or something not under your control) the hacker will not be able to drop or trade a locked item? Well cant they just delete your character, thus removing the locked item? How exactly is that protecting it? Seems useless... What's next? Paying 1000 NX to report someone? Lets just think for a second here, though. Is this one of Nexon's measures against hacking? So they are basically telling us we need to pay to protect our items and chars because of their flawed system? wut? If anything these locks shouldn't exist. Instead there should be a universal lock that is available to anyone at anytime (for free, obv) that will lock your entire char meaning it cannot be deleted, no items/mesos/nx can be used/dropped whenever this lock is set in place. You can set a password in order to use this lock and set it to lock your char at any time for any amount of time. (eg. set it so it always locks your char when you log off) But why should we have to do all this? Implementing this is like saying Nexon's security is extremely compromised by any hacker and now have to resort to this sort of thing. I don't play too many other MMORPGs so I don't know but for example, is WoW like this? Surely people cannot be hacking in WoW like hackers do in MS. Or even if they do, I'm sure Blizzard fixes problems within minutes. But when people hack constantly in MS (boss capture, IRM) and even blatantly continuous ongoing vaccing in the open, on display, like sitting ducks for GMs to see (christmas tree event). Nothing gets done. I'm sort of a little dumbfounded by everything. They even mention in updates and blogs that only good things are to come to MS and are totally ignoring the fact that hacking is spreading like wildfire but they just shrug it off without addressing anything whatsoever. The only time I ever heard of Nexon stepping up and doing something to remedy a hacking attempt was when there was that meso glitch that had to do with donations or something, they had to rollback all the servers. I'm still a little surprised they even did this. Don't they just normally say "Meh... we will just let it sort itself out." Any other thoughts? Item Locks and Hacking - Nesso - 2011-01-23 They released them fairly close to when a large number of accounts were mysteriously getting stripped. It should tell you exactly what they were thinking when they released it. Of course, you can still delete a character with locks, and you can still scroll a locked item to blow it up as well. http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000822 Was mentioned back then, and it would have solved everything. Item Locks and Hacking - MariettaRC - 2011-01-23 There's still a method against deleting your characters (blowing up your wedding ring) but honestly, most hackers hack others to GET their items. That's what the lock is for. Deleting your character is pretty much a last resort to them, I suppose. I've never heard of hackers deleting other characters unless they knew the person (revenge or something stupid). Hi, I'm Bryan ![]() Now you do. Items locks are a bad idea. You can get items back - a deleted character is gone forever. Nexon, f'ucking come on, you have enough money to do something like that for your games. Item Locks and Hacking - MariettaRC - 2011-01-23 Marksman Bryan Wrote:Hi, I'm Bryan I guess I would count towards this too, since I too was a victim of this (never found out who did it or why), I just always thought it was out of some stupid hatred for the owner and not for pomegranates and giggles (provided there was no account sharing involved, in which case it'd be kinda obvious). :x It would be nice for Nexon to invest in something like what Blizzard got. >_> Since item locks do only protect items if the character itself doesn't vanish... Item Locks and Hacking - Killed - 2011-01-23 too bad this is a free to play game and they think anyone who gets hacked was at fault Item Locks and Hacking - GameMX - 2011-01-23 Nesso Wrote:They released them fairly close to when a large number of accounts were mysteriously getting stripped. Whats nice about these as well, is that if you have an iPod Touch/iPhone/Droid you can get it for free. The $7 is basically for the material cost. There was one case of accounts being hacked with authenticators, but it was a middle man attack. I believe it was people who only had the iPhone/Droid version as well. It doesn't make it impossible to hack the account, but it pretty much gets rid of all the random hackers trying to snag your account for profit. Keyloggers are useless if I just type in the bnet email/pass. Item Locks and Hacking - Kaasoljoyyx - 2011-01-24 One of the reasons some people do it is "If I can't have the items, I don't want the hacker having it either" Item Locks and Hacking - OrangeGuy - 2011-01-24 Nesso Wrote:They released them fairly close to when a large number of accounts were mysteriously getting stripped. KMS implemented this security device, called the U-OTP. Same thing, only its an application you download on your phone. Because someone would still be dumb enough to let people in real life know details, and somehow end up on the account. Probably followed by the account owner swiftly blaming nexon for it. They haven't yet invented a tool that can doesn't completely block out human stupidity. Item Locks and Hacking - Eos - 2011-01-24 Item locks have:
They have value & purpose, but only so far as they were intended. They're meant to prevent item loss, pure and simple, through any of the numerous ways that items can be lost, including your own screw ups. They're not an anti-hacking device, they just happen to provide a little bit of protection in that event too. If I was a hacker I would definitely delete the characters on the account in addition to robbing it. Someone I know got hacked, and the hacker transferred items though MTS. My friend went to his character's MTS history and saw which character got his nx. Loldumbhacker.
