What do you think will happen to mapleSEA?

Read my edit XDXD. I find it pretty funny the GMs are getting hacked too.

Hacking a server computer
stealing a crapload of money in @-cash

What exactly are the punishments for doing that? Granted, the fact that the hackers are in China may complicate things, but if they were to get them arrested even there, what could they expect to receive?

Assuming it's the Chinese government that handles it? Possibly a death sentence.

Assuming the Singaporean government, probably a large lawsuit and a couple of years in jail.

I do wonder why people are getting hacked by SEA's rankings, when I haven't heard of such incidents in GMS? :f6:

There have been major exploits in the past in GMS' history, and there are still exploits that very few people know about. But I've never heard of an exploit in GMS where you can get a player's account info just through the rankings page.

Considering several times there have been GMS website exploits that let people hack accounts just by knowing the account ID (I think they need to combine it with a pin cracker now, but that's also possible), it's not unreasonable to guess that something was found in the rankings >_>

nexon has shown to be pretty slow responding to issues, obviously asiasoft needs more assistance, that said... its safe to probably say nexon is working on the issues

while the version may suffer for now they'll most likley fix the issues in awhile and address compensation

asiasoft operates many other games, in other territories as well. while Msea hurting probably hurts asiasoft, im sure they'll be able to weather it out until nexon and them can fix the issues and get the game back to normal, i cant see asiasoft wanting to git rid of the maplestory license, albeit the game being a mess atm

Asiasoft just released the statement below.

Quote:AsiaSoft's ongoing investigations and actions taken with regards to recent concerns [12.09.2008]

Dear Maplers,

We understand your frustrations regarding the recent iregularities and problems faced while playing MapleSEA, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to all players.

Recent in-depth investigations have revealed that we were under attack from China and to combat this problem, we have since upgraded our system and have taken the following measures:

1. Consulted and engaged experts from various technological and gaming fields
2. Blocked all IP addresses from China to prevent further hacking
3. Upgraded and reinforced the security systems within our game servers

Your understanding and feedback are essential to us, and will greatly assist us in monitoring our security enhancements. If you are still experiencing issues, please do not hesitate to contact us through Qbox and we will work to address your concerns.

-AsiaSoft Administrator

Something I don't understand on No. 2. Why do they need to reblock China IP if all IPs outside SEA have already been blocked years ago?
Also, IP blocking can be bypass easily using VPN, socks5 proxy.
And, the Qbox is useless.

I'm pretty sure we're getting Singapore and Malaysia regardless. I would think that there would be major lag from those players coming here, as well as the issue of their previously worked on accounts.

MapleSEA wont fall so easy considering that AsiaSoft gt so mani famous game in Thailand or Vietnam like eg. RO in Thailand and MapleSEA helps AsiaSoft to earn SO MUCH $$,i dun even think they would do so.as u all noe,ppl can actually spend $10k SGD on maple and if u all have go for the 3rd maple anniversary(Real life event),ppl can actually bring a pizza box of used maple prepaid card to chng something

dun ever treat this issue lightly,if the hackers can reach MSEA,then other servers may get pulled in as well, thats y nt onli AsiaSoft now is improving their security system,NEXON as well

and if MapleSEA din close down, there may be a chance that other servers may get SG and Msia map(well EMS aldy gt SG map),but if MapleSEA closed down, chances of getting it will be as low as 0.05%

Possibly. they have the rights to say which version to merge with, or just shut down completely.
theyd probably go with merge, as they still make as much money.Cool
