Pirates vs. Ninjas Mafia Gameplay Thread - Night 6

I really hate voting for people. :X I don't know why, but ever since I started playing the IRC Mafia game months ago, I always feel bad voting off people.

Gotta admit, Russt has a point. We might just be going after him for something pointless that's only the way he plays.

Synthesist was a neutral two games ago. But I guess that's not the same as town. Still, I'm not willing to be quick to suspect him.

Staying quiet in person is acceptable, I don't see why it shouldn't be in forum mafia.

It's more or less the result of several games worth of him not posting or otherwise interacting in the threads. I suppose if he's on IRC, that does count somewhat towards him not remaining quiet, but as we're now doing forum discussion primarily, posting is a rather large part of the game. Yes, his tactic of keeping quiet has kept him alive a lot longer than he otherwise would have been in some games, but I don't feel it's as useful as being a contributor to the game discussion. While it may be overdoing it to make a rule about it, it is still something to consider.

Sillyness aside, I agree with Russt, we have NO IDEA who we may be lynching, and Synthesist isn't exactly "inactive". He just never speaks. He does all of his night stuff, as evidenced in SC mafia.

If he has a good night action he really has no reason not to speak up, even if it's his style or whatever, and we can't be blamed for lynching him. He doesn't have to roleclaim, as the intent would not be to make him a target of the mafia, but for him to not even say anything makes me personally lean to him not having a good night action or not having one at all.

Sorry for the delay, I was making waffles. I'm back now, and I'll whip up an end-of-day post shortly.

A thought jumped into the mind of one of the pirates. Then it spread. Quickly. Soon, the entire ship was whispering in agreement on who they should kill. When the dinner bell rang, all the crew knew what they were going to do. Gibbs and Pete dragged their suspect, kicking and shouting, through the crowd up to the cap'n. When they reached him, they threw Jimmy down at his feet.

"It isn't me, cap'n! I swear it!" Jimmy looked frantic, terrified. He had no idea why he was suddenly a suspect. Cap'n Jones looked from Jimmy's white face to the crowd. "Which one o' ye bilge-brained idiots though JIMMY was one o' them? This boy be like me son. I trust him and I won't be killin' him without some damn good proof." The crew shouted back at him, throwing out semi-coherent arguments that could barely be heard in the din. Jimmy's eyes flashed back and forth from the cap'n's face to the crew surrounding him, fright in his eyes. Then suddenly a shot rang out, and those eyes went blank. Jimmy collapsed as the crew went silent.

"WHO FIRED THAT SHOT?!", the cap'n roared. No one answered. Then there was some movement. Ben was jostled to the front of the crowd, a still-smoking pistol in his hand. "Right," said the cap'n. "Ye be cleanin' this up then gettin' belowdecks. Without any food. Complain and I'll throw ye to the sharks!" He leaned down, closed Jimmy's eyes, and picked up the body. The crew looked slightly bewildered. "This boy was like a son to me. He weren't a pirate, so he won't be gettin' a pirate's burial. We'll give him a proper one next time we make port." With that, he walked into his cabin and closed the door.

Synthesist died by vote today. He was Jimmy, the cabin boy, a vanilla townie and my favorite story character. D: Ah well. I'll have to find someone else, I suppose. Anyway, it's now night 2. Get those actions in.

Much like the previous night, a thick fog rolled in. The night shift did their best to go about their duties, but they got little done. Ben was still wiping down the spot where he had shot Jimmy dead when he thought he heard a very stifled cry. As he looked around for the source, he saw a flash of pale green, and for the slightest second thought he saw a ghostly ship sailing past the Esmeralda. It vanished almost immediately, and he stared all around, trying to find it again. He only stopped when Sam clapped him on the shoulder. Ben jumped and whipped around. "Ye okay there? Ye look spooked." "...It were nothin'. I don't think I be drunk enough to handle this right now." With that, Ben slumped off belowdecks to see if he could find anything left of the stores of rum that had vanished two nights back.

Day broke, and as Pete reached the crow's nest to start his lookout, he was greeted with the corpse of Henry Morris. He shouted down below, and carried the body down with him. Once the crew quieted down, the cap'n began speaking. "Another good man dead. These ninjas be laughin' at us. Mockin' us. We need to fight back. From this point forward, for every member o' this crew they kill, we kill five o' them!" The crew cheered in approval. "Now get out there and find me a damn ninja to kill!"
