Is it even possible to make money anymore?
#21
We have all gone power hungry, and have forgotten our once humble Maple roots.

We are the people of Rapture.

While Nexon has become more like Softnyx and Gunbound. Yuck.

NX based society is becoming more of a trend due to the fact Nexon has increased the amount of NX exclusive things making it seem "mandatory" for NX to be used for all intended purposes. This means that more people demand NX to be able to, for example, buy CS exclusive skillbooks or Cube their items into oblivion. Mesos ALWAYS measure out the same (1 meso = 1 meso), but nowadays mesos more and more are being given a value based on how much NX one can get for the price.

Maybe to remedy this, the screwed up tax in the MTS could be changed again (causing mass chaos like it originally did, but work out down the line) to favor minor transactions instead of catering to the major transactions.
Or
perhaps nexon could allow the potential system and enhancement system to enter the MTS (again chaos and warped pricing), tbut this would give practically every person in maple a chance to get some NX as potential items are far more common than 10 atk wgs or a +7 decently scrolled bow (oh wait, you can't sell bows in the mts... I forgot).

GMS could implement the cash item trade room, whic would function the same as the "system" (i think buying NX is done through the MTS correct?) we have now, but with less tax on the NX user and the meso user.

But, without a doubt, ANY change to the economy we have now would cause a (much needed?) chaos and hpefully a deflation in pricing. What we have now is utterly ridiculous. Nexon should be concerned much more because if the game is set to eventually "require" NX, they will lose a very good amount of their user base.

Besides that it's near impossible to make money anymore in Maplestory without spending -or having spent- NX, the old "epic" boss items like zhelms / ht pendants / mon pendants have become near useless...

Epic Boss items hardly give players a boost in damage (+10% max, all combined), while NX can give you +250% damage...

So yeah, Maplestory is down the drain already:
- No reason to hunt for drops -> Near all drops are worthless
- No reason to boss anymore -> Near all drops are worthless
- No reason to lvl anymore -> Being high lvled doesn't mean you do high damage -> NX wh0res do the same damage at lvl125 as NX-less players at lvl200 (if not more...)
- gMS has plays terrible slow and laggy at a pathetic resolution (800x600)... and it's not even a 3D game... lol...

Really, I can't think of -one- good reason to play Maplestory these days, besides chatting to people... o.0

The only "fun" new things are checking out new classes (which I currently do in kMS) but after lvl 80, it's all the same and everything gets really boring and useless... :/

Actually I think it's kind of sad that this is the way Maplestory will end for most players, a game that actually used to be fun to play for years in a row... :/

not to necropost but this thread is still on page one so w.e

I have to dissagree with part of what you're all saying.

I
Don't hack
Have yet to spend any money on NX
am doing fine merchanting, In the three months since my return to MS from oblivion ( got hacked )

I've made alot of what I used to have back and am doing fine without having spent a dime on MS and the only thing i'm getting nx for soon is an item lock or two and some perma clothing. within 3 months of casual merching I've made 5b+ in mesos/items and secured some of the more sought after items in GMS (collectors items that are honestly too damn pricey )
maybe because I'm not 16x and am only in the beginning of 4th job I don't know about some sort of massive increase in the amount of mesos needed to play decently but I'm doing fine so far, buying cubes from friends isn't a problem and I'm slowly upgrading my equips, working on haste shoes atm.

point is, you don't need to spend a dime or alot of time , just spend your time on MS wisely and you'll be fine, just

1. check all the FM rooms ( takes 15min to go through them all looking for deals ) 3 times a day
2. know your prices
3. figure out what items people will pay alot for that you can easily scroll . for example way back when for 300m you could almost gaurentee 1b profit in 2 days I'd go get a bunch of highly above average soul spears and scroll them with 30%'s, one that comes out +3/4 30% with any amount of slots left easily sold for 400m. this specific item dosen't go for that much anymore but there are items like these, Items that are cheap-ish with scrolls that are abundant that people want, I've found such items and its easy money.

you don't need NX to play , you can get NX via MTS and who cares for the ratio. get a shop permit and start merchanting , its not hard at all.

I peronally hope BB brings about a removal of the MTS and instead gives us the cash trading room. It would cause some deflation and allow people to buy things like cubes without changing from mesos to NX.

i also think they'll do it because they'd have to change the new UI to fit in the Trade button Poast

I doubt they would take away the MTS. They would loose alot of profit. Sure alot of pretenders go about how they spend nothing on Maple, and some of them might not, but the NX will have to come from somewhere. Combine that with the heavy tax they have in there and we have a profit making machine. Don't get me wrong though, I disslike the MTS, firstly because of the stupid tax they added and secondly because I feel people who support MS by charging NX should have benefits over the normal player as well as over the merchants who really only pineapple up the market anyway.

People would buy buttloads of cubes if they could sell them in the FM. Besides, once the NX is charged, what happens in game means nothing, and the tax hurts the person gaining the NX more than the person losing it(eg. the one paying for it) so in the end changing the tax probably wouldn't hurt their profit margin much.

Satellite Wrote:MTS fee was definedly biggest reason it went from 1:4 to 1:10. And I'm pretty sure it's still 1:10 in yellonde, atleast it was last time I checked...

OB3LISK Wrote:1:10? Yesterday I had to pay 1:15 to get my smega to show off my VIP XBow. Was lowest I could find after over 250 people including my buddy's buddies and their alliances searching for an nx seller within 30 minutes. Dam crazy.

The effects of hacking have been showing up in JMS as well. Rates have spiked from 40,000 mesos = 1 WebMoney (not to be confused with a service with the same name, WebMoney) to 80,000 mesos = 1WM or 100,000 mesos = 1Chocom. Botting and hacking by Chinese goldfarmers have been a huge problem in September as prices literally skyrocketed (up 80%Wink while items targetted by botters dropped by >100%.

If only they did that IRL...

Personally the introduction of the potential system (moreso the drop rate increase) has made it easier to make money and also brings some nostalgia from playing maple years ago by being able to hunt for drops/equips that i need. A friend of mine rarely merchants and has still made herself a nice stack of mesos coming off only having 10k meso from the hellban. Selling potential'd equips has made drops actually worth something.

I've actually done some lpq'ing as well on some lower level characters and gotten lucky with 60% earring dex and 60% earring luk which go for about 15m and 10m in my server.

Make rep mules, level them up, sell 2x buffs for 4mil each and have 6 people pay at a time.

Spending months of not playing just to play is just a horrid design flaw and one of Maple's biggest turn-offs to me. That's why i never enjoyed merchanting. How bad is that when drop hunting sucks so much, you pretty much have to go drop hunting in FM instead, in the form of low or errored pricing? Its pretty much do or die before you have a character strong enough for farming though, in a neccessary evil sort of way.

I am pleased that potential system makes farming worthwhile again though. Farming should be what it takes to be average in a MMO, and merchanting should only apply for players who aspire to be 'godly'.

it's really hilarious how mts has changed. i used to fully fund 2x cards through mts. costed me 100mil to buy 25k nx. i also got around 15-20mil (sometimes more) in mesos/drops every 4hrs.

And how funny, the time they finally opened MTS in Yellonde, they also decided to make MTS useless with the tax.

Nexon just made the game too dependent on NX.

Depends on how you look at it. Nothing has been done to the game that force you to use NX, if you do not compete with others that is. If you do, then of course it's gonna cost you in time, effort and/or money. I will agree the difference between a spender and a freeloader is a bit to big now though, much cheaper cubes would be welcome.

Non-NX option would be cool too. But i feel that cash trading room would "solve" the problem only if the nx:meso ratio decreases from 1:2xm to something like 1:10m

Cash trade room likely won't have much impact on prices, but it'll kill scammers, which is huge.

Cash trade room already takes away the added price of MTS tax on the meso:nx cost and makes the whole process much more user friendly.

That's true, but the MTS tax shouldn't really affect CS items to begin with. That's what gifting is for.
