Getting router/internet connection to work with new computer.
#1
I can be retarded with computers, so please bear with me Poast

So, got a new-ish (used but better than what I have) computer. Got it running and the OS installed; next question is how to get the internet connection started up. Router is plugged in, but can't seem to get any connection.

I probably need to contact the ISP, but I wanted to know if any software/hardware issues could be causing this.

what does it exactly says?( if no icon on the system tray, go to [Control Panel] > [Network Connection])
  • limited or no connectivity?
  • connected?
  • network cable unplugged?
  • disabled
  • acquiring ip address

Sorry for the late response.

The icon is not there; and when I went to Network Connections, it had nothing listed. I assume a router has to have more done to it than just be plugged in...

I guess the network interface card driver is not installed
look for any other missing drivers in device manager howto

google "driver [computer model] network download"
