Community Opinion: Neo City

I like neo-city so much, it was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak, in deciding if i was ever going to uninstall maple completely . Maybe whena masteria expansion comes out, I might reinstall but its doubtful.

Lol. I already gave up about another Masteria expansion long time ago. We haven't had one for one year now, and I doubt we'll ever have another one. They just gave up after NxProse and NxJoeW, who were 99% surely two important members of the staff who were working on the Masteria project, left NEXON America. You'd obviously say: "Nah, two people can't stop the development of an entire area of the game like that". Well, NxJoeW was a designer, therefore, if it's how I think it is, then he specifically was the designer of the Masteria concept art. NxProse probably was also somehow involved in the Masteria development (just read some of his posts in the NEXON Forums about it and you'll notice how he talked about it like it was something he knew very well). After they left, NEXON America wasn't able to replace them with someone as good as them who had some good ideas for more concept art and quests for Masteria, so they probably just gave up with it. After one year, we haven't had ANY updates about Masteria, neither some hints in their forums, which NxProse used to give. Nothing.

Then, -Hime- said that we would've gotten a NLC update in the Neo City patch, but she was obviously wrong, as she had mistaken Neo Tokyo for Neo City, and maybe she thought that the update in the Kerning Subway (Kerning Square) was about NLC (?).

I'm 99,99% sure that they stopped the development completely, because, if they didn't, they would've given us at least a few hints about it once in a while. Even if they found other people who could make the Masteria stuff, if what I think is true (they didn't have a plan of how each Masteria area should've looked like, or only had some ideas about it which had yet-to-be-completed), then these other people won't be able to make Masteria areas as good as they were when NxJoeW was still at NEXON America and made the concept art. Obviously, if someone else makes the concept art, everything will be different, and since NxJoeW made the concept art of Masteria since New Leaf City and knew how things should've gone in the storyline etc., the next expansion's artwork wouldn't probably be as good as the one we had before. Also, since NxProse probably wrote the storyline of it, we could as well expect more sucky storylines such as the Haunted House II one (which, I remind you guys, was written by NEXON America and never released in any other version of the game). But since they probably already gave up with it (and it's better like that, because, you know, I wouldn't want a Krakia with re-used tiles and map objects, because that's what they've been using lately for the latest GMS-exclusive stuff such as Episode 1, as the next Masteria expansion). I can also tell that they probably left during the last stages of development of the Crimsonwood Keep expansion, since they said there were some missing quests which had yet to be released and would've been released soon, which actually were never released since NxProse and NxJoeW left (and this is just another promise of NEXON which wasn't kept).

Afterall, I think that everyone who read the storyline could easily notice how weird it is the fact that Jack Barricade tells you that he still has to find a way inside the castle because of the energy barrier, but then you can enter it without any problem and when you find him inside he just says "Do you want to form a squad for the Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest?" without even explaining how he got through the energy barrier (how did YOU get through the energy barrier, anyway?).

Almost everything I said is based on assumptions (NxJoeW actually was a designer of NEXON America). But something tells me that part of these assumptions is true. If I were you, I would give up on seeing another Masteria expansion already.

The questline was absolute rubbish, even more so than Haunted Mansion II. The story was so disconnected because it was like a repetitive chain of "Fetch me so and so", "Kill X monsters", and "Kill a boss"; but there's no actual plot going on aside from guys giving you instructions about what you have to do in a certain time period without any "why"s for the reasons behind what's going on and what happened. So basically, you just traipsed around in a future apocalyptic wasteland without any real understanding about what you're doing and helping people along the way.

Some nasty plot points as for actual "plot":

2215- May and Bao's quests. So you're told to look for survivors and bring them to her right? When I walked by Bao and saw the lightbulb above his head, I knew immediately to click it. The first thing I see? "May is polite, but she can be pretty cold." And after that, "I'm so relieved that there is another survivor!", which makes it obvious he hadn't actually met May which is a total fart in the story considering he claims to know who May is from his first dialogue before you start the quest and then when I start it, he tells me that he hadn't seen any other survivors. Then he asks me to go kill some Iruvatas to make things less dangerous. Then, he asks me if both me and him are the only survivors left; and then I tell him about May. He realizes that there's another survivor named "May" out there then thanks me. Goddamn.

Oh, and how about "Ken"? Dumb idiot stands in front of a bunch of Overlords in the open, and there's another reason I don't like him in Neo City...

Actually, I did have a bit of fun fighting the bosses. Not too bad; but the rest was rubbish.

"(Bao) I'm a photographer in a destroyed town. I dun even know what am I supposed to do there.. take photos of Iruvatas mebe LOL. Oh anyway, May is polite, but she can be pretty cold. Oh, anyway, are there any survivors left?"
"(Me) There is a lady named May not too far from here"
"(Bao) Orly? I didn't know LOL k see u around"

and i compared the two versions because saying how crapy neo city is will sound reseanble if you heared how good neo tokyo was.
for all those ppl who think neo city is a good map or even ask about it, should do a brain scan because "my char is not high lvl for neo tokyo" is a crapy excuse to get the horrible nerferd abomination of god that is called "neo city".

such an action will not heapen, if you realy want a nlc update offer nexon alot of "Spending notes" (aka money) and they will make one, they dont got a reson to make it it's not like they care about maplers anyways.

Or you could just ignore the post if it bugs you, oh crusader of crappy content. Judging by the poll Neo city is obviously much hated and us old ex-loyalists as well as the newer players must be able to vent it. What other uses does a game forum hold than to discuss the good and bad stuff? Being social with strangers discussing important topics like why Obama is a joke or the earthquakes in Chile?

I meant that Masteria hasn't been updated in the last year. Masteria is the continent where NLC is. I'm not talking about NLC itself. Masteria HAS been updated in the last 3 years, with Crimsonwood Keep and Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest. Though, those updates happened when NxProse and NxJoeW were still in the staff. Now that they left, we haven't heard ANYTHING about it for 1 year and I guess we won't hear about it anymore at all. I'll try making a thread in the NEXON Forums about this with the hope that -Hime- will answer me. She's been answering the questions of many people lately.

It has nothing to do with the content, it has to do with the people discussing it. Every Neo topic brings out the worst in everyone, crying like children for something they weren't promised and cursing the gods for what they got which in reality isn't even THAT BAD. I like how you call me crusader of crappy content for being realistic when you and everyone else here is stuck in this perpetual loop of BUT I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTTT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT and just can't move on. This is a non-issue. You can't change what we got by crying. There is a neo "expansion" planned and for all anyone knows, it's Neo Tokyo. But you're not even speculating about that. The time people have put into this one single non-issue would have been more productive being spent trying to catch an ostrich because at least then there's a possibility you'd accomplish something in the end.

Also I explained the rest of my position in the last Neo topic. There's something about this non-issue that causes even the most rational members to behave in the most illogical way. The fact that you are defensively attacking me and calling me CRUSADER OF CRAPPY CONTENT is pretty good proof of that, don't you think? You're not usually so childish.

even thow they belong to masteria, i would realy want to know what are the things with the red stop sighs and the chambers in the meso gear tower.

btw alot of ppl dont like neo city regardless of the update, talking about how bad neo city is quite fun why do you think ppl do it because they are bored?

Same here, I saw no reason to go past that when I found out how long it was gonna take (hunting slimes? For a few hours? Gee, what fun). I haven't finished the Mu Lung quests either, because of similar reasons (hurr durr collect 20 extremely rare pieces of paper from monsters that give no exp and there is no reward at the end)


If I want to point out a good quest line that I actually completed, how about Magatia? All fairly doable quests, the story makes sense, and at the end you have access to Chimera, who drops stuff worth getting.

Neo city was horrible. Nothing made sense, hunting watches and the sketchbook pages was a pain, frostprey literally soloed each of the gatekeeper nexes before I could even see their attacks, etc. Past the first area, everything was the same 3 maps of 2 types of monsters with boring kill/fetch quests then a weak boss at the end. I was hoping things would get at least a little interesting after the sketchbook quest. Also the paradoxical appearances of Jack and IAMROBOTs from NLC.

It's just that I see the end of Maplestory in this kind of updates combined with all the hacking and lack of comunication and it pisses me off. I've invested money and more importantly time in Maple and its an eyesore and a headache to see the problems clearly but without any way to affect it. I understand why it makes people mad. It makes me just as mad that Nexon is such a bad company that they NEVER listen to good advice, regardless of how much we invest in their company. There's a point where you have to move on and if you're feeling the way that you say you are, then that point is long passed. Attacking Nexon definitely helps with the hurt, but there are better reasons to attack them than Neo City... like every single decision they make as a corporation.

Well, its kind of like the legal defence mentioned in the poll. In that episode so many years ago, the lawyer starts talking about a Wookie living together with some Ewoks(something like that) but the point was, "It Doesnt make sense!!". Why do ppl like CPQ? Because its fast for leveling. Why do ppl go to Eos tower? Because if u do some quests u can get scrolls. Sadly, Neo city does neither of these things. What were they trying to accomplish here?! I wouldnt say it compares to rape but it is prob. at least a couple of kicks to the groin. It Does not make sense!!!

I don't really care about storylines, so I thought it was a fun area. The watches you need to hunt didn't bother me either since that meant exploring took a while. (Unlike kerning square which bored me in the hour.) I do think the bosses were WAY too easy though. They should have 50-100 times more hp. It's supposed to be a party area...

Also not a "imma return there to do stuff"-kinda place. Unless a buddy needs help getting in there or something.
