What's the story behind your nick name?
#21
where to begin, where to begiiin...

back when i was a kid i read the animorphs book series, and i fell in love with the name of the character Tobias, not only because it sounded cool, but because he was stuck in his falcon form. he was a prisoner in his own body, a paradox which i didnt understand until i was much older and had fallen out of interest with the story. but the name never escaped my mind.

later on, in 7th grade, i decided id try making a video game, and of course i didnt own a computer nor know anything about computers, so of course all i did was draw out all the world maps and character information and pomegranate out on paper, and then i hit the point where i began working on the characters. it was there where i remembered the name of the boy trapped in the falcon form, and i decided that the main character was going to be named tobias.

then the game idea died in 9th grade and changed into a comic, where i started to flesh out the design and story for the character, wherein i added the last name Black, and Tobias was now more complete than before.

then, years passed, and i found out about maplestory from an ad in a gaming magazine...
well, the name still holds meaning to me, as well as one other identity ive developed in the past 3 years.

I picked my name when I saw Rayquaza for the first time and thought it was the cooliest thing ever. I went by "Rayquaza22" for a couple of months, I selected the number two because that was the number my finger landed on when I picked a number, and I liked the idea of two twos. I then forgot the password to this account, so I stuck two THREEs after it, then I became a semi-famous mod on Supercheats, played RuneScape, and then rested on MapleStory.

I gots two nicknames. This one over here <<<<<< I just a front cut off of my BMs name with my first name and the first letter of my last name.

Now, my other nickname thats a real nickname to me, is John "The Apostle". First, you should know that I am an agnostic, and was when I got this name. I dont know exactly why people started calling me this, but from what I was saying when I got it, it has something to do with the way that I word things. Really, it is hard to explain, and it would be much easier to have been there for when it started to understand it.

Russt is a contraction of russet
[Image: russet_full.jpg]
which was the first half of an IGN I was using for Maple at the time. Most of my earlier IGNs incorporated words associated with colors because I thought they were cool. I dropped the e because I went by Russet on a different community and people wouldn't stop associating me with potatoes.

I'm never consistent or satisfied with names I use on the Internet (just like I'm not particularly enamored by my real name either). I want to just pick a name and stick with it, and every few months I decide on one that I'll keep forever, but I never actually do. Lately the IGN I've used most is Cachinnative, which I actually got from a translation party result.

My forum name is my Maplestory IGN. That came from the fact that I knew I wanted to be a White Knight, and I had the concept of dualities of charges and souls in mind, and the Reaver came because it means to to tear something apart, in my case monsters. It then stuck with me.

My real life nickname is Fritzle, because my teacher ended up spelling my name incorrectly on the track listing during an event and it was called out incorrectly, leading to it being associated with me.

I was coming up with a name to reserve for my Cygnus. While putting random things in for names I happened to put in NinjaKitties and it was available.

Rather than put ArialCalico as my name here I put that instead.

My forum nickname comes from when a friend back in school used to practice Ninjutsu and he would be all about his teacher he called Shidoshi. He also said that ninjas did all kinds of awesome stuff.

I simply robbed the name idea when I was out of creativity for a character name when I first started RagnarokOnline.
It was also my BETA cleric's name (I lost that account's information somewhere along the way).

I've been using Shidoshi for quite a long time now.

I am Ben. Chrome is what I go by elsewhere, I was really into Initial D and figured "ChromeAce" would be an appropriate name. It eventually got shortened to Chrome.

As for my IGNs:

SmokeRing (2004) - I was really into The Last Dragon Chronicles, and dragons there often blew rings of smoke, hence SmokeRing.
TwistedSage (2005) - I just needed a name for a mage.
XxMinorityxX (2005) - Saw some commercial for a movie with the title "The Minority" downstairs, decided to take the name.
ChaosXLegion (2005) - I thought Naruto was the coolest thing ever, so I made a Hermit; coincidentally, I also thought Chaos Legion was the coolest thing ever. X for extreme pwn4g3.
FiraInferno (2006) - I was playing both FFVII and Soul Calibur II at the time, so I was inspired to make a F/P after I fought Inferno a few times. Took Fira from the Fire spells.
Xaenus (2006) - Here's where my names start to get original. I completely made up this name for the sake of originality.
Razhal (2007) - I came up with it in religion class I think when there was that story of Jesus raising up Lazarus from the dead. Kinda sounded like Lazarus.
Hybe (2007) - I really wanted a four letter name, so before I made the IGN for this character I made up a list of the coolest looking four letter words I could think of; Hybe was the first one that wasn't taken, and I particularly liked it, so I went with it.
Robonaut (2009) - It just looks goddamn cool.
Robotwalk (2009) - Derived from Robonaut.
Autorecoil (2009) - Kind of inspired from names like Radiohead, Soundgarden, Audioslave...etc.
Kanzi (2009) - I needed a name for my character in S4 League, and I made it up on the spot. Also from reading Ranger's Apprentice (I'm sentimentally attached to the series), I got Kaijin (monster), and it transformed into Kanzi after thinking about it for a while.
Tokai (2009) - Name of a kickass guitar manufacturer in Japan.

BTA = bobtheadventurer. I was young, playing VMK (a browser based MMO run by Disney, which closed a while back), and thought...

Alright, I need a name. Generic name. Bob. Bob is too small. Hey, adventurer hat can be equipped... bobtheadventurer.

Over the past couple of years I've been using BTA though, since it looks nicer. Unfortunately, most sites require more than 3 characters in a name, forcing me to use things like xBTAx or BTAxBTA or other crap like that. ;_;

Which one?

1st nickname: "Magnus", long story. I used to Role Play a lot on a different message board, and at the time, I loved Digimon. My favorite Digimon was Magnamon (Veemon's Golden Digiegg). I also made a Digimon RPed, in which many others joined in, and the story = us having our own UNIQUE Digimon (there's a reason for that too). My Guilmon digivolved into Magnusmon with the Golden Digiegg (lawl). Thus, how I came up with the name "Magnus". Magnus also means "great" in Latin.

2nd nickname: "Reid Hershel", being the one I use most in message boards. Main character of Tales of Eternia, my favorite character.

3rd nickname: "Kasuhitomi", Kasumi + Hitomi from Dead or Alive.

4th nickname: Kawasari Mimoto, just a name.

I don't want to even comment on my original IGN before what it is today and also my name on SW; so: forum names I've used on the 'Perry and my current IGN.

The Schiff:
...the anime these guys are from wasn't even that great. The name "The Schiff" does sound nice, though.

Smooth Criminal: No need to explain myself here. I do wish that it was easier to type up, though; even The Schiff worked a lot better.

MasterChef: Slick, A++ Grade IGN here. Halo is indeed an overrated game.

Throws: My hermit's IGN was ThrowsFeces before it got namechanged by GMs, and it was just easier to call me Throws.

Throes: Changed the "w" to an "e" to separate myself from a character I don't play anymore.

Growlypants, miss Growlypants, etc.: I was watching some show on Animal Planet and the one of the animals was named Growly Pants. I thought it was the most adorable thing ever so I stole it. Huzzah unoriginality!

I used to be a crazy Nintendo DS Wifi player, namely with the game Metroid Prime Hunters. It was a late summer night in July of 2006 that I saw a thread about MapleStory on an MPH clan website, and decided I'd give it a try. I downloaded the game that night, and started playing at midnight.

I didn't stop until 4 am, and wasn't even Lv. 10 yet. Don't ask how, but the quests and Maple Island itself just drew me in.

Oh, and FrozNlite? One of my respected friends and superiors in Metroid Prime Hunters was a Sylux player with the userID of Sh[]ckWave. I thought that looked cool, and being a Noxus user, wanted to find a neat way to represent my character with an appropriate word combination. Thus, Fr[]zNlite was born.

When I was asked to create a character that night, in the middle of my Metroid Prime Hunters career, I figured I'd use the same name - after all, it looked and sounded cool. But stupid Nexon wouldn't allow [], so I figured I'd substitute in the real letter.

Thus, FrozNlite was born.

***************************************************************************

Moral of the story? I had no idea at the time people named their characters after their class, something I still didn't know when I chose LOLFP a month later because it had the strongest 2nd Job Magician skill. It's a neat coincidence my IGN worked out the way it did with my class, yet had no bearing on class distinction at all when created.

A looong time ago I had the account "MechPaul" on GameFAQs and it was good. However, I did something stupid and logged in at the library. Someone else logged into the same computer and wound up banning himself, and I got included in the usermap axe. So I had to create another account. I knew I was interested in Spanish, and I wanted something shorter than "MechPaul". The first spanish word that came to mind was "Fiel", so I chose that.

To let you guys know how old the name "MechPaul" is for me, it's from way back in the 90's when my family used AOL as our service provider. One day I asked for my own account, and my dad allowed it. So he sat down and said, "You have one minute to think of a name because I'm not going to sit here all day. Hurry up. C'mon, let's go." So, I picked the first thing I knew was interesting to me, and that was mecha. I was really into Gundam Wing at the time and I loved Mechwarrior, so it seemed natural to pick it. So I've had this MechPaul name for well over ten years now and I don't see myself switching anytime soon.

During World War II I was the pilot of Bockscar; the plane that dropped Fat Man on Nagasaki. My name is Major Charles Sweeney but I carry this title as a reminder of the pain and suffering I caused. Also I am a ghost.
