Opinions on Evan

Early skills are supposed to become weak in comparision to the endgame skills, you're not supposed to magic bolt horntail to death. This makes raising endgame skills worthless, why do it if your first job skills do the same damage?
Who says that skills are -supposed- to become weak? If Nexon wanted to make a NEW and ORIGINAL class, they could have chosen for another new and original way of Magician Skills to work.

Just like how Aran skills are original in their own way of working (higher combo = more power). And aran's still use 1st job skills (normal polearm attack) to start up their 4th job combo at HT and PB... So why would 1st job skills -HAVE- to be weak?

Something like:
- Skill-upgrading (Lucky7>Critical>ShadowPartner>Venom) for Magicians...
- Have different speeds in different kinds magics:
-- Slow ultra strong 1 hitter nuker (charge-up) magic (like all skills are now atm)
-- Ultra fast weak-per-hit 10-hitter high DPM magic (use the criticals?)

The way the current skills work now is just like... meh, just recolor them (yay new sprites!!!), increase base-damage a bit... done... it's not really revolutionary for a -NEW- legend class...

Quote:Implying dragon riding is original? Seriously? There are a million and 1 games where you ride dragons, and you even gave another example of riding an object as your main style that's already in Maplestory!
We're talking about Maple here, not other games... and NO maple classes except corsairs can currently use mounts in battle, all other 16 (!!!) classes -CAN'T-, so yeah, giving Evans attack mounts would have been -EXTREMELY- original...

Someone in Fiel's extraction thread said that Evans were "what Adventurer Mages should have been". I agree with this entirely, seeing how 4th job Mage are pretty much SPAM THIS ULTIMATE, CAST THIS BUFF and nothing else.

Ahh I don't care that it sucks. As long as I have a fresh new mage class to create. ^^

I'm optimistic, so I think the current setup COULD work really well with the right controller and SP build, but what Arans have in physical control issues (pressing the keys right w/o programmable keys is tricky, at least at first) they have in skill choice. A month or so isn't enough time for people to find the optimum strategy... so they look suchish.
Course, they could also just suck, in which case I would expect a speed or damage boost in the next three weeks prior to their release.
If they don't get either, then I guess they were only designed to be a support class. I haven't learned all their skills yet though. :/

Dragon mage?

Conceptually, very good.

In practice, looks dumb and is dumb.

Seriously, the best they could do was give you a shoulder puppet that mimes your attacks? That's weak. It's just a mage, with new animations.

If you could turn into a dragon (Fire Drake, Ice Drake, Holy Dragon I guess, etc.) and then apply elemental powers to a basic set of dragon-skills, that would be awesome. Kinda a hybrid between a WK and a Mage. Plus mother effing dragons.

If you could fly, even better. Not forever, just double/triple jump and Float-type flying.

Especially if you could rain hellfire on the enemies from above, where they can't strike back... Or, uh, snow fall. Or holy dribbles.

But I guess then nobody would buy NX for their Evan, and that's absolutely intolerable. Lol.

My hopes were too high when I thought Evans would be able to bring something new to the playing field for mages that would make it feel like a new class much like Aran brought the combo system and somewhat like how Dawn Warriors brought a new, more flexible and mobile style for warriors to be played by giving them a bit of range and Soul Rush. The Dragon merely just serves as a one of those pet-weapons like My Buddy DJ, the dog, the bird, the whale, and more- it just looks like a cool visual element versus a gameplay change. They should have done something along the lines of using the Dragon like Battleship and cast from that, and not just running around with a lame shoulder puppet. To add, they could have been given a cool Float-like skill to rain hellfire, thunder, and ice from up above to make it more awesome like Stereo said.

Casting appears relatively slow despite the fact they have Booster. Earthquake seems strong, but it's insanely slow to use thus making incredibly unpractical and useless. Blaze seems like another Chain Lightning. As aslemn said, it takes almost a whole 3 seconds to cast, which can be particularly dangerous.

My final opinion is this: like Grog said, these guys are at least a serious improvement to the gameplay of 4th job mages which just consists of ultimate spamming and casting buffs. This is everything 4th Job Adventurer mages should have been, and the attacks could seriously have worked. What needs to be done is rework these attacks so that they're actually useful, and also give them an arsenal of diverse skills instead of making old skills obsolete every 20 levels like Spidey said. Even if the concept isn't too great for me, this class could be excellent if they merely just improve the skills in terms of speed and diversity.

I'm not really bothered about the damage. I don't have a problem playing 'weak' classes. It's just the casting speeds of the skills. It's painful to watch, even with booster. To me that would take away the fun of playing. Also I’m not too keen of the idea of waiting till 160+ to get your last skills. I think they could have also done more with the dragon. Rather than making it a glorified shadow partner.

I'm still going to make one when they come out in KMS but I think they could have been so much more. I think we may have all been spoiled with Aran releasing first. I'll definitely have more conservative hopes for the future classes.

Evans looked great on paper, until their attacking speeds were revealed. They are way too slow. Flame Wheel is almost as slow as Genesis FFS. They're actually worse than regular Arch Mages and they don't even have a spammable ultimate. It's such a shame too, because their -20% Magic Damage party buff is one of the most useful buffs in the game.

I really like Devil's idea of boosting base spell damage whenever the dragon upgrades. That shows that the dragon is actually getting stronger too, instead of just learning new skills.

The changes I really want to see are:
1. Faster attacks or a significant boost to their base damage.
2. More diverse skills. Far too many of their skills become useless in 10 levels.
3. Make their critical actually work...not a single Evan video features even 1 crit. Also, they should boost the critical hit rate. 25% is really low especially since most of their attacks are single hit attacks instead of multiple.

Terrible class in my opinion. But I also hate magician classes in the first place.

I'd rather them make Adventurer mages what they should have been than see yet ANOTHER gimmicky, overrated new class.

I still think it's a little early to say for certain. I was definitely impressed (and hopeful) in the beginning, but now I'm starting to lose that. I love mages, but they all suck in MS. I was hoping Evan would change that. If they stay this slow, I'll pass...

All suck? Disregarding their end-game move being ultimate spamming (which could be changed with some well done low hp element weak high exp monsters), I've found maple to have some of the best mages of any game to date besides console single players (and even those sometimes screw it up.) Mages are often made to sit through ridiculously long casting speeds for pathetic damage or even missing because the target moved an inch. They're left out of the action and if you even think about playing one solo then you're absolutely nuts.

FP/IL removed the necessity of depending on others to get around and made using magic fun. Not to say FP/IL's don't have their problems, because they do. Being severely limited to basically 2 spells per job is a big one, and having to choose a specific element instead of being able to make use of them both. Also the fact that they still can't compare to single target characters, but you have to sacrifice something, right?

Evan's seem to have made all of that null, taking it back to an old-school boringly slow method. I'm pumped to get my dragon out there and casting only to find out that by the time I've cast my flame wheel I've either been hit 3 times or the monsters have all moved "that-a-way" and are no longer in my range. I was really excited about this job but those attack speeds are such a huge turn off. I play magicians in maple BECAUSE they're fast. Why would they make a newer, supposedly superior class follow a tried-and-failed method of gameplay?

If you look at the spell attacks of each skill, they are ridiculously strong, so they should be slow. kMST people just haven't maxed the skills yet for reasons like not having done quests or not passing mastery books.

Not when they're slow enough that they can only be compared to Ultimates. I'm looking at you, Flame Wheel.

The thing with these slow animations, though, is that they do look flashier when they're long and drawn-out. If you think about it, it does make sense that a big huge 300-base Flame Wheel is going to take awhile to come out. However, it shouldn't have to make you stand in place for so much time.

What I think they should do is shorten the cast times, but keep the long animations and give them Buccaneer-esque delays. This way you can't cast consecutive Flame Wheels whose animations overlap each other, but you can switch to some other spell and keep blasting away.

Makes more sense to me, because you're preparing another spell while the dragon is handling the first one. In context it's nothing more than efficient use of time on the Evan's part, really.

Solves the obselete skills problem too.

Like I said earlier I would rather have weaker skills that cast faster. Who cares how powerful a class is if it's boring as hell to play.

I really like this idea, and agree that it makes sense. Why the hell would the human be waiting there for his dragon to attack? The human isn't even the one who's supposed to be attacking. The dragon really seems too much like a weapon cover. It's little things like this that could have seriously made it actually feel that the dragon is actually there. The dragon and human should be separate. I think it's a pretty cool idea to have the dragon attacking while you load up spells for it to use. Hell, maybe even make it so that you can separate from the dragon while it's casting skills (this may be tricky, they'd probably have to make it so that the player takes any damage the dragon takes as well) and have a key set to "call" your dragon back to you.

What I'm thinking about is, you've got the dragon attacking a mob. You load up the skills that you want it to use on the mob, and walk off to the other area of the map where an other mob is. By the time you get to the other mob, your dragon has already killed the last mob. You press the "call" key, and it flies over to you at full speed (or teleports, whatever). Then you can load up skills there as well and continue.

I think this not only adds difficulty to the class (it is supposed to be more "difficult" to use than adventurers, right?) as well as originality. It also stops the dragon from seeming like a puppet.

Give the dragon it's own HP and MP and own potions bag to hold potions. Set what % of HP and MP various potions go off at, almost like a pet.
Give room for, iunno, 10 slots for potions until it runs out. Enough that it could boss without too much trouble, but a small enough amount that it wouldn't become a mule. So Nexon is happy, throw in an expansion for the slots in the CS.
If the dragon dies, there could be some basic (and weak) spells that the player alone could use. Put a cooldown before it respawns, or require certain items?
Or just warp you to down. "TAKE KARE OF YER DRAGON!"

I think they should have made it more like a half and half, where your dragon can do a bunch of strong, slow attacks, and you can cast weaker, faster attacks. That way you can have your dragon be shooting off a flame wheel while you're casting some other spell.

Support maybe?
Dragon's unleashing hell from the sky while you use some kind of stunning spell to make mobs? Not unlike a Priest and DK at Himes....

What would be better would be to make it so half the spells are cast by the dragon (at your command) and half the spells are cast by the character, and allow them to both attack simultaneously. Say the Evan casts flame wheel and while doing that the dragon uses earthquake.
