Throws Wrote:The way we would "resolve" this issue would be to have a ceremony/reception the day before the race for the family, since I'm sure neither of us would want to have a big hoo-hah after the run. Then we run our thing, and maybe just have our immediate family in Vegas for the ceremony so they could take lots and lots of pictures.
My fiance is all for the idea if I really want to do it.
If that's the plan, go for it.
Just promise me the honeymoon will never end.

HOT, JUICY, STEAK.
Haha. I meant that they'll come up to you and start hitting on you if you're alone, in case that would be a source of annoyance.
Also, speaking of food, go to Olives in the Bellagio at least once. That place was so good

Yay for first thread in the funhouse with a crapload of derp and anime.
On a serious note, congrats Throws! You've really grown up.
Although, asking SP about this seems like you're finding backups for your out-of-ordinary idea seeing how whacko all of us are.

Honestly you might want to get it done in a more formal setting. It doesn't have to be what other people want, but ideally something that has your whole family present and it's a celebration. Your wedding is one of the most important days in your life... do you really want to get it done quickie-style in a Las Vegas chapel? Also, from what I heard, family members can get pretty mad about weddings... like my brother and his wife were sending out thank-you cards for presents given at their wedding, one of the cards got lost in the mail, and the person thought she had been forgotten and got really mad. Your wedding is not only for you, it's also for your family... you should get them involved.

I sort of disagree with this. While it can be a great day for your family and friends to be there on your special day, it is not a day for them, it's only a day for two people and two people only.
As for you question. No, don't do it. While I am sure the both of you love each other very much so it doesn't really matter how you get married, it will still be nice to have a more real wedding.

The compromise of a pre-ceremony for family and an actual running wedding is great.
It would be really cool.
On an aside Chompy chose Option 3.

Basically, a reverend runs alongside all the couples who decide to participate, and you say your vows and tie the knot while running 13.1 miles.
I showed it to my fiance and we are seriously considering it.

I'll be honest, the more I contemplate this idea, the more I want to go through with it. We've already decided that we're going to run the half-marathon in Vegas (if any Southperricans want to join us!) plus we've been engaged for so damn long it's become the family joke that my grandchildren will get married before we do. Gonna talk to Mommy about it this weekend.
Whee, less than two months to find a proper dress to run in!

If you want to be cheap and traditional, get married in Silver Bells in Reno; I've had my uncle, his friend, and my other uncle get married to their wives there.
Otherwise, do it. Seems cool.

Why not do the run, get "married" then have a normal formal weding and get *married*?
I mean, its a win win, you get double joy and fun that way.
First one would be for you and him, and then you can share the joy with your whole family.
