You want new stuff to come out, making all the old training grounds completely useless? You want KS wars like the ones at Windraiders at 2x?
At least across-the-board changes don't make 90% of the game obselete. And you think that the casual gamer will actually find out anything by themselves, or work harder? They just go to the new training spot and spam their skills there, same as has happened every time something better comes out. If anything, new training spots have often dumbed down the Maple experience. Consider standing on the SUV at MP3, spamming Heal. Easier than running a max tele route at Wraiths every 20 seconds, eh? Heck, even H/Voodoos was easier than Wraiths, and I got 3hko'ed at H/Voodoos when they came out! Consider Windraiders. Heck of a lot easier than MDTs, wouldn't you say? Himes isn't completely easy, but it requires less strategy than Gobies, for sure.
As for me, I love the curve. I never thought I'd make it this far. If only Nexon would deflate the cost of MW20 and Gen30 somehow... And no, I'm not going to whinge about how "it's Maple on easy mode" or "they're getting rid of the last challenges in this game" if Gen30 is 100m, because that's pineappleing ridiculous already for my main attack skill. If I want a challenge, I'll get good equips or merchant or something, not struggle just to get to 4th job, or to get my main attack skills. Similarly, I'm not going to whinge about the EXP curve letting me get better EXP at 13x that I got at 6x back at Wraiths, because playing at 13x is more fun than playing at 6x. I can go boss now. I can help my friends with quests. That's what this game is about to me...
Call me "casual" if you wish. Maybe I am. Far be it from me to suggest a game should actually be fun.
The old training grounds are still totally trainable. What, you want no new content? New training spots are going to tend to be better; otherwise people wouldn't go there. They've already done many map revamps. Luster Pixies actually have a pretty good map layout now, for example.
Like I said, levelling is supposed to be open-ended in this game. Once you get to a certain level where the benefits of levelling no longer seem worth the time investment, you plateau. If 13x is more fun than 6x, you shouldn't need to level even faster to enjoy it
You guys complaining about the hours it takes to level at high levels don't seem to understand the concept of not training your ass off to level in one day. There's not some sort of training mode you have to be in to gain a level where you start at 0% and mindlessly kill things in a set pattern until you level.

True dat..MM's fo lyfe <3. I feel the pain, just slightly less.
Also being a casual gamer, when you get to a high level like Chameleonic's, it's too hard to find time to train. This curve allows the casual gamer to make progress without taking a whole day off of more important things . Unfortunately, I missed all but one and a half weeks of this curve . I can say though, that in that short time, I was able to ENJOY the game. I mean, I have no reason to complain about people leveling faster if that includes me too. This is coming from a fellow grinder at coolies barely making 5% an hour at level 69 (lol). I know what leveling used to be like, and how it is now. I've accepted the fact that my "pro oldskool legit" MM looks just like another leecher. Fak it , bring on the curve.
I'm sad to say this....but I actually enjoyed playing MS recently :O. It reminded me of when I had clean or 100%ed gear and my base str matched my level, but I didn't give a . Moar curve is kool .

There is a reason people are "high leveled". They trained their "ass off" to get there. I think they understand.

Exactly. Which can take upwards of what. 14+ hours? Roughly 2-3 days of playing using 6 hours of playing per day in a controlled environment. You will make no winning argument that that kind of commitment is needed to gain 1/200 of your ultimate goal is necessary to have some sort of pleasurable gaming experience.

Oh, Gene, the constant supporter of the bitter...
It only takes me 3 days to level with the curve, 4 without the curve. (That's 12 hours vs 16 hours of training).
Ontopic: I actually enjoy playing my marksman enough to want to play it at least 4 hours a day forever. Whether they remove it or make it permanent, doesn't matter since I find my time on my character enjoyable.
I don't know who originally said it, but I think it applies:
The wise man judges his achievements as compared to his personal goals, whereas the fool judges his achievements as compared to the achievements of others.
I'm completely a casual player. I'm level 115, which by today's standards is a complete noob. That doesn't bother me one bit though. I've gotten there on my own, without leeching/2x/nx/etc. and I'm proud of that accomplishment. Current goal is 4th job, which I expect to hit in oh.. maybe a year or so.
Along the way, I've done lots of things that I'm also proud of, such as soloing bigfoot at 110ish, soloing HH/Crog/Jr Rog/etc. All of those guys were (or are still) able to me in 1 hit, so I know it's not something that anyone can do. Does it matter to anyone else at all? I don't expect it to.
Reaching a specific level has never meant much; it just means you spent more time and/or money on the game. It's not a reflection of skill whatsoever... which is why I don't care about the new curve either way.
Also, for what it's worth... Before this weekend, I hadn't played since Xmas. I didn't even notice a different exp curve. I only know about it because of this thread

lol I'm not bitter.
Not everyone has "2x Card + 2x from Family + HS + Party" exp for 4 hours a day like you do to be able to level in 5x less time.
All power to you, but I dont feel like playing a game/character that requires all of that just so I can level at a bearable rate.
BombsAway Wrote:Translation: Heh... 10 hours a week? You're pathetic. You make me sick. You call yourself a mapler? More like a snail, ya slug. Get outta here.
This is so ignorant. Casual =/= lazy. Private servers are for lazy people who only want instant gratification. Casual players want to eventually be able to experience everything without devoting their lives to the game, but there is still a LOT of work involved even with the experience curve. Spending hundreds of hours playing, even if it's just spamming a skill, isn't being handed anything. What you're saying is that once we get some real end game content (black magician stuff) that only those who have invested every waking moment in maple should be allowed to experience that content.
Thanks for your smug elitist attitude though.
Wrong. There are plenty of private servers (Usually the more popular ones) that have not-so-ridiculous EXP rates (10x-12x, etc) just because they feel that the ridiculous grind up to 15x or 16x takes away from the fun that most people expect from 4th job. Over the years the grind in this game has gotten way too easy, and though I only used the word casual to enrage short-tempered people like you, people who never dreamed of getting past 4th job are now 15x. Back in '05 a level 70 would make 10% an hour at Zombies; a level 160 should not be making 16% an hour on 2x.

Maple Exp Tables aren't even compariable. I can't think of another MMO that makes you die at your computer for a level.
I completely agree. Last night I was talking with one of my best friends who doesn't play MS at all but knows just how much time and money I've invested into my character, and told me that the game took control of my life and whatnot. He's right; you can't be a hardcore Mapler and still be a truly outgoing member of society. I'm not saying I don't have friends, and I don't do things with my life, but when all of your friends go "hey, I haven't seen you in a month" because you've been grinding every day, or when you haven't touched a console game since you started playing MS, that's a problem.
Point is, I think it's rather disgusting so many people hate the curve because they want "the challenge." As this man said, MS leveling is more ridiculous than any other MMO, curve or not. And you want it to be as hard as possible? Please, save yourself some humanity. At least thank Nexon for giving you a little more time to live life instead of grind.

Spoiler
From personal experience, you can, on a private server, get to Lv. 200 in about 3 min. You can buy any scroll and equip in the game for 200 Meso, so it only takes ~30 min to scroll perfect gear and extremely godly att Pacs, FS, etc. You can also rebirth and have up to 32,000 base AP per AP stat, meaning potential 18m stars/arrows, etc - in other words, 1-2 hitting Anego. You can teleport to nearly any map in the game, earn max mesos in one minute, and buy infinite NX and smegas. That's a private server.
Now do you, or anyone else, REALLY THINK an EXP curve like what we have now, plus Bishops, plus the Family System, plus 2x cards, is anywhere close to touching .00001% of what you can do in a private server? Absolutely not.

Why not? It shouldnt take more than 20 hours for any level, even from lv 199-200.
edit: I'd be more inclined to play if the slowest exp I got was 5% an hour. Instead of taking 10 years to get one char to lv 200, I could get all 12 classes, plus-some and I would probably be more inclined to spend more hours as there would be variety and things would be much much more fun.

I am a hardcore player (or was) and with all of the time I've put into this game over the last 4 years, I've yet to whine because something got EASIER (of course, I whine about everything else .) I would love to invest less time in it. I am very OCD about completing what I start though so it's difficult me to quit without really accomplishing what I want to accomplish, and in order to do that I have to invest copious amounts of time into it. So does everyone else; but there's no reason that we should have to spend quite as much time as we do for what is really a minuscule achievement and imo is more shameful than anything. irl I would never mention my monster book to most of my friends because of the insane amount of time I've put into it, and even the one that I did mention it to who is an avid gamer / mmo player was pretty disgusted. This is a normal reaction, because it is a gross misuse of time.
What I'm saying is that there is absolutely. no. reason. for any part of maple to be as time consuming as it is just to accomplish something that gives you nothing, and any means to make that time a little less is a blessing. If you WANT to invest all of your time in the game, then that is great, but it shouldn't be a requirement to achieve end game.
i hope it does stay.. it helped me level a lot faster then I usually would have. =).. But if it doesn't, there's always family 2x & party 2x & cards for me to use..
Hell I think 15 hours should be maximum expectacy to level from 199-200. Hitting 200 gives you a mount a medal and what everyone wants fame. But what most players don't realize is maple is going to be up for a long time and eventually getting from 199 to 200 will probably be the same as 99-100 in due time. Not because of exp changes, because new maps, new content ect ect. Hell one day they might raise the level cap, yes its impossible because of the 2.27 or whatever but who knows technology might find a way. However that's irrelvent to the arguement at hand.
It's a game, a level is equilavent to 5 ap points and 3 skill points. To even enjoy your character at 4th job you need staple skills which can range from 3-5, aka nearly 30 levels to begin with. Now with all due respect, right now most people are making what? 80% an hour 120+(towards 130 it dwendles to more like 35-40%) on 4x. That's 2$, and a 30 minute bonus, if you would like to purchase other 30 minute bonus' (note this example is solo) you'd have to buy 6 which are about 2mil a pop, coming at 12mil and 2$ to get almost 3 levels in 4 hours.
A lot of things could be changed for that though, such as lower time cards (2 hours instead of 4 anyone?) and possibly to be able to reuse it? Put it back in cash shop to deactivate it? If they did that they'd encourage time management but all nexon is saying is: If you want to level you have to invest 4 hours of your time in training. I dont know about you people but i have a full time job, 8~5, I have to go to bed at latest at 12 to be fully rested. That barely gives me 6(Want to include shower/eat make it 5) hours during the day, and I'm not even school right now!
The curve should be increased if anything so people don't have to waste years on a character they'll inevitibly dissapointed in (Most bishops and arch mages considering their entire life span is built around training). I'm sorry that you people feel like because of the curve that it underminds your accomplishment, but it will have happen eventually, might as well embrace it now.

Actually, you sound like the kind of person who has never played a private server. Not all private servers revolve around getting to a high level fast; plenty of them (Again, the more popular and successful ones) still require quite a bit of work to get to high levels. Items do not just poof out of thin air, you have to hunt with them (Though the drop rates are always doubled or tripled), and mesos are not magically generated nor are billions of them gained from killing snails. The kind of private servers YOU are referring to are the kind that little 12-year-old kiddie shi'ts create when they feel like the grind to level 50 is something unnecessary. Take a look at what I bolded in the last sentence of your post; take a look at what is already making this game ten times easier than it was a couple years back. Every other game update gives Maplers more power (More slots on weapons/more ATK/faster training vs. new training areas, new equips, increased rates, etc), and back in those good old '04 days when Level 50 was an achievement, it's only a matter of time until level 150 is "nothing special" (Though, we may have already reached that point).

While I agree with what you're saying, that's never been the way Maple's worked, and it never will be. This one small paragraph contradicts with everything that Maple revolves around, and no boosted EXP rates or cash shop items will change the concept of the game that we are, in this thread, trying too hard to make "less hardcore". Like you said earlier, this game is always going to have some kind of difficult grind to it, but to make it easier than it already is with 2x, family 2x, Arch Mages/Bishops, leechers, and everything else that gives Maplers their stiffy sounds like something you'd only hear from someone running a private server. I already know they're most likely going to be keeping these rates, but running in here and disagreeing with the majority is a good way to bring peoples' piss to a steam. Why can't you guys just look at this as the event it was actually made to look like and say "GEE, I SURE GAINED A TON OF LEVELS THIS SUMMER. THANKS FOR THE EVENT NECKSON, YOU CAN SHIFT THE RATES BACK NOW IF YOU WANT."

The shift to the exp curve is more akin to SQUEEZING THE ATLANTIC OCEAN so that there's less distance to travel.
Alloy Wrote:I wonder why practically no private server with normal exp rate ever worked out then.
I wonder why no one would bother hacking a private server. People don't even give a pineapple about their own accomplishments on a private server, much less the accomplishments of others. Private servers are for people to plantain around in; a regular exp curve and a real grind would be totally out of place.
