MapleStory 2, welcome.
I think this game was executed nearly perfectly. There is ALWAYS something to do. I often have to decide between several things.

My only complaint is that class-specific equips should have a higher drop rate. Most stuff isn't tradeable and I have absolute horrid luck with drops, so despite tens of hours of farming and bossing, I have yet to get any pieces of purple gear for my class and it's the only thing holding me back from being able to significantly contribute to a bajar/mark 52 beta kill.

Everything you get is tradeable within account as far as I know, though. Which is awesome. Going to make a Priest soon-ish since I have half a purple gear set with really good stats ~_~

Hey all. Before I purchase an account off of newgameway, is there a better (cheaper) alternative? Just checking. Thanks, guys/girls.

Today's patch hinted towards a new class. A new notice on the homepage mentions two issues that are currently going on after the patch. One of them is the unintentional hint of this new class apparently.

The name of the new class is Rune Blader. I guess this will be part of the major update coming this Winter holiday.
Kinda surprises me since the developers wanted to aim on balancing on all 8 current classes and not release a new class that fast.

Rumor has it that MapleStory 2 is not doing so well.
Maybe Nexon decided, as usual, that shiny new content to draw in players is more important than fixing issues in existing content.

They've been making a lot of changes to cater towards casual players (increasing dungeon time limits, removal of party damage meter, making dungeons easier in the future, etc) and this has caused a lot of hardcore players to quit, but I don't think the game isn't doing well. We just got a gift because MS2 ranked 2nd in some Korean game ranking.

According to Gamenote, Maple Story 2 ranked #66 last week, down from #55 the previous week. MS1's at #6

Gamemeca puts it at #31, up from #32 the previous week. MS1's at #18.

I think it's safe to say there is a definite decline here, considering MS2 used to be towards the top. But I guess after the new car smell wore off.....

I haven't been following MS2. Have they ever dehomogenized the classes? If not, a new class could be a welcome change.

I disagree with a lot of the casualization that happened to the game...but one thing I do feel is necessary is increasing dungeon timers.

Ridiculous how players are pressured to up their DPS to the most efficient levels just to stand a chance at beating bosses, I've seen some of the best parties that know what they are doing just barely scrape by on some bosses. DPS should only make fighting the boss easier, if a team can survive for 30 minutes fighting a boss and beat it they should be able to kill it without a random timer telling them they didn't do it fast enough.

The only boss that's ever happened on is Balrog, because it has over twice as much HP as the next hardest boss. And I think a good MMO should be like that - lot's of bosses that are available to most of the population, and one only available to a few elite players.
Bosses would be too easy if you have tons of time to clear them. Where does the challenge come from? You don't have to know any mechanics or how to optimize your class's attacks.

MMOs are all about damage (and farming). You shouldn't be able to throw together a group of 10 randoms with mediocre gear and clear the hardest bosses in the game on the first try (which, I can assure you would happen if timers were 20 or even 15 minutes).

Chaos bosses, however, were an excellent start to combining reasonable DPS with good class control.. with the old enhancement system. My group can clear both mork and devorak in under 10 minutes now, and carry 3~4 people who are basically dead the whole run.

For any of the other lvl 50 bosses, I can do the minimum required DPS (10% of the HP) in under 5minutes without even trying, and my gear isn't even all that good. Anyone that spends a mediocre amount of time farming (not even hard.. I pulled it off while being in a graduate physics program) can have gear similar to mine -- or even better if you're lucky.

Agreed about the boss part. Every boss shouldn't be able to be killed by everyone. There needs to be something for everyone to aspire to kill. There needs to be content that isn't available to a casual player, but at the same time isn't only available to people who pay. In MapleStory's prime, I was never able to kill Zakum, Horntail, or even Pap (this was before Pink Bean). I would go on Pap runs with friends just to have fun and we'd all die. Zakum/HT was something high level players could use for profit, because casual players couldn't do it. It made for a really good ecosystem.

Indeed, but there was no time limit on those bosses back then.
I still remember one crazy bishop who solo'ed Zakum in 6 hours.
The reason not any group of 10 randoms could kill him was that he was dangerous. You had to know how to fight him and you needed to stay focused the whole time.
HT was even harder, not just because it had more HP, but because it had more ways to kill you, some of which no amount of control would counteract. You needed a whole team of people who know what they're doing in order to get through that one.

I don't know anything about MS2 bosses, but if they are the sort that any group of randoms could easily down given enough time, then their mechanics need to be changed. Timers are too artificial a constraint.

Yeah I agree, time limits are lame. There was that Dragon Knight that solo'd Zakum as third job in like 8 hours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVJBY2N0qLk (9 hours 33 mins actually)

Although, time limits are understandable when a game is very popular... But 30 minutes just isn't long enough IMO.

Again, I don't know MS2, but I really hope it doesn't have "this boss can only be fought on this channel" nonsense.

Yeah, hopefully not. I never understood that at all. Plus, there was nothing worse than walking all the way to Zakum just to realize you went in the wrong channel.

100 channels, can do all bosses in any of them, and everyone can do the same boss in the same channel at the same time (or, at least there's enough instances where it's never been an issue).

So there is no "cave holding" reason for a timer.

Nope.

Most bosses are 10 minutes, with the exception of 20 for chaos bosses.
Apparently the Korean community has made a lot of similar complaints, and NexonKR plans to revamp how raids work on a fundamental level for the December update -- no more "go in and do x damage in 10min." Instead we should see multiple stages that utilize classes' unique abilities in order to clear.

Rune Blader class. Releases next week.

Reminds me of Asura in DFO.

I find it very worrying that they are ALREADY releasing a new class. It tells me that they have to make something new and flashy to play as to keep up the playerbase which is a bad sign :x. Of course that could just be me, but it worries me.

You can now create your own music or use written music in MapleStory 2 to play! It uses a system similar to that of Mabinogi.
