Barroth was more the noob killer of Tri than 3 Ultimate.

Royal Ludroth being a royal pain in my ass and barely gives me any claws. I pretty much have to get lucky that he pities me and hands them over since I have killed him at least 6 times and have NEVER once been able to smash either claw. Tail, face, or his mango-mane? No problem. Claws? LOL nah. Doesn't help that his claws seem to be more heavily plated than anything else on his body so you're out of luck if you don't have at least green sharpness. My new Barroth greatsword is helping but it still isn't enough to ever break them before he dies :/

You can only break Royal Ludroth's face and mane (two different breaks), and cut off his tail. His claws are not breakable, and are in fact the strongest part of his body. I believe for most weapons it's: Face > Mane > Tail = Body > Claws.
Barroth was called the "noob killer" because he was just that. He was an urgent quest in Tri, one that most people got stuck on and were unable to rank up more until they did beat him. He's considered the "noob killer" simply because of mud and the fact that if you don't understand the concept of dodging, or think the game is a "mash-em-up until they die" like DMC (or similar games), he kicks your ass. I also think they slowed him down a little in 3U, but I honestly NEVER once had an issue with him, so I honestly don't remember how good or bad he was because he never gave me trouble in the first place.
RL is a pretty easy monster once you realize that being on his sides is the worst idea ever, considering how much he likes to roll over and how large of a hit range that has. Being on his tail or head makes your life easy, as his tail swipe is pathetic and he can only really hit you with a lunge when you're at his face. If you want to trip him, go for his back legs (the unarmored ones).

Yeah, I wiki'd him and just found out his claws are just a rarer drop and that you can't actually break them LOL. Good thing trying to hit the claws eventually breaks his mane-go anyway so all this effort wasn't for nothing.

I guess they had to have changed things a bit since Royal is fought first now unless I'm mistaken and he seems like HE's the one who'll show you that button-mashing won't do you any justice since he's very agile and can attack you from just about any position.

I find his sides to be the best spot to attack him from. I usually stick to his neck or ribs unless I'm going after the tail. I tank the rolls no problem, but I can usually avoid them since I usually don't get too greedy with the hits anyway since using a greatsword you really don't have much time to attack too much unless the target is trapped or something. I usually attack about 1~3 times then dodge away > sheath > run away if needed > close back in and swing another 1~3 times. If I'm able to I'll charge 1~3 times before getting a hit out on the target. I don't like being in front of him since he'll either shoot his spit at me, chomp me or swipe me with his teeny arms.

Polantaris; What was changed about Barroth between Tri and 3U is that his health was reduced and he was indeed made a bit slower. His AI was also somewhat dumbed down from what I can tell by first-hand experience.

It's not that they changed the order of monsters but when you go Online in Tri, you just need to spam quests until you hit a certain Hunter Rank (The System you unlock at HR8 in 3U was the system used completely in Tri), and then the first Urgent was Barroth. You HAD to do him to continue online, period. You didn't have to do Royal Ludroth.

Anywhere near his mane is fine, really, because of how he rolls, but I guess since I tend to Hammer him I find it best to stick to his head directly. If I don't use Hammer I go SnS or Bow, and Bow is obviously not going to have any issue with him at all, and SnS I stick at the tail for the cut and trips on the hind legs.
Overall I've never found him to be hard, but I also started with Freedom 2 so I had some experience by the time he was released...

As for him being slower, you're probably right there but I have no intention of ever touching Tri again and he isn't slower from P3rd that I remember. His health is reduced, but that's the same for everything. The majority of people that had issues with him would still be unable to beat him if his health being lowered was the only change. They definitely made him overall weaker, but I think it was because of Jade Barroth being added (Jade was in P3rd too), and Jade is more like the original Barroth in terms of speed.

Oh wow, Gigginox just changed the game. Fought it for the first time and it's actually the only monster so far that's put up a fight. It took like 35minutes to take him out...
Surprised I didn't die during it since I kept getting poisoned and forgot to bring any antidotes. I only had a single one from the quest (Accidentally took 1 of them in the beginning when trying to drink my Hot Drink lawl). I'm wondering if there's any armor or weapon I should be aiming for for the fight against it. The fight is brutally long and his constant poison makes it that much worse. As fun as it was it's safe to say farming him won't be an option until I'm able to kill him much more efficiently. I'm currently in complete R. Ludroth armor with match greatsword/switch axe.

He's far, far, far easier to range than he is to melee. I would suggest Bowing or Bowgunning him if you're comfortable with either weapon.
Also a good thing to know is that his weakpoint changes whether he's in rage or not. When he's not in rage, his head is his weakpoint, while when he is in rage, his tail is his weakpoint. You can easily determine if he's in rage because he changes color. Since his weakpoints are the outermost portions of his AOE attacks, I would suggest attacking them if you're going melee, because they're far easier to escape from than if you were attacking his body. Don't get into long combos(especially if you use DS), because you will have to break out at any point to escape his attacks.

Gigginox can be sorta silly until you learn him. His head is the weak spot normally, and his tail is the weak spot in rage mode. If you're good at getting away in a hurry, you can wedge yourself between his hind legs and wings and continuously wreck his belly until it breaks. With luck you'll also get enough damage on his wings to make him flip over on his back.

I'm working on building up poison resistance and got myself a fire gunlance from Qurupeco -- upgraded to next level as well.
Thanks for the tips guys. Now I know that I should be aiming for his tail when he's enraged.
Edit: Wow, he's WAY less threatening once you become immune to poison. I was able to be way more offensive this time around and broke his stomach and tail. Woop.

Just please don't be one of those guys who walks around with Poison Negate armor and nearly no other useful skills while fighting monsters that don't even have the slightest chance of poisoning you.
SO MANY PEOPLE DOING THAT. The Froggi Armor love is ridiculous because people are so scared of Gigginox and his poison...even though it's relatively easy to deal with after a few fights with him.

I'm a greatsword user so his chances of poisoning me are pretty high. I make an effort to avoid everything I possibly can but sometimes I get into spots where I'd be poisoned or re-poisoned (if that's possible) guaranteed. The armor is only going to be for him since he goes wild with the poison. Things like Wroggi aren't a threat so I'd rather use better gear for that of course. Rathion's poison isn't common enough either -- just Gigginox's. I'm already trying to research armor that's better suited for other battles outside of Gigginox. I heard Barroth set is pretty good for low rank?

Even as a GS user you'll learn how to handle Giggi while getting poisoned very rarely. GS is all about timing, and Giggi deals a lot with timing as well.
Of course use Wroggi while it's still an issue, not saying not to. My major issue is that I join G Rank Rooms and have people walking around in Wroggi while doing monsters like Barioth and Jho, it makes no sense at all.
I forget what skills Barroth gives now. I barely used any Low Rank gear at all, so I can't really help on what's best for you. I know in Tri it gave Adrenaline, but it doesn't do that anymore. Personally I used Jaggi for all of Low Rank and most of High Rank for Blademaster so I can't really input on good Low Rank sets, sorry.

I used the Barroth set for my gunner for the most of low rank (I failed to get the material for the lagia set I wanted >_>).
I remember it being pretty decent with it's abilties and resistances. I never had any complaints except how it looked :p

Once you're better at Gunlance, you can play more aggressively vs Gigginox. You can block his poison blobs, FYI. I can't remember if his poison cloud requires Guard Boost or not, though.

Just got a full set of Lagiacrus armor for my greatsword-usage. Working on getting that Uragaan set just cause it looks amazing. Need 1 Marrow and 1 Jaw to finish it off.

Congalala has always flung dung at you. He also farts. In Frontier his ass spontaneously combusts all the time (random farts for no reason), and he likes to spaz out when he falls over. I wonder if they intend to bring in any of those abilities because they made me laugh far too much against him.

Minus the massive range of the farts, I hope they bring in most of that moveset, because it's pretty different from the original Congalala.
