The Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Topic
SuperNerd Wrote:Don't remind me, I'm actually trying to make the entire set, but naturally I'm having a helluva time trying to get Dark Dragongems. Not to mention I am still also missing 2 Dragon Elderbloods. I know they come from Jhen, but I hate Jhen so much, so I googled it and read around and it was said that Ceadeus also gives them, but I haven't had any luck from him either. Still trying though.

And yeah, I completely agree on the hitboxes of the water lasers. I did rage a few times when I was so clearly no where near the laser as seen right on my screen, but I would still end up getting hurt.

Not to mention doing it solo farming him for the parts I need to finish his armor is sooooooo tedious. I can down the regular Ceadeus in about 15-20 minutes, but he still takes me 30 minutes or more.

I honestly think Monster Hunter would be far better off without giant monsters like these.

Contrary to the belief from people who have never played Frontier, Raviente isn't fun either. It's literally an hour at a minimum of pure boredom attacking the same exact spot over and over and over.
The worst part? You think grinding Ceadeus is bad? You literally can go from HR100 to 999 without maxing one of his weapons because of a retarded point upgrade system they created for his weapons.

All large monsters in MH suck.

Just killed Duramboros. It took me nearly the entire time minus 2 minutes. :f6: Are there any good dual blades I can get to kill this guy quicker? Bear in mind I am still doing the village quests. Just unlocked Shakalaka from killing it.

He's weakest to Fire Element, so if you have access to the Agnaktor or Rathalos/Rathian Dual Swords, I suggest making those. (Out of those two, though, I recommend the Agnaktor one more).

Thanks I should have Agna soon seeing as I unlocked the volcano, but only just started the 5 star quests. Will continue the quests and hope it shows up xD

Agnaktor will be available with the last set of quests you unlock in 5 star (After the village request "One Chance", I believe).

The first Duram you do is horrible, and I think his HP is higher than it should have been.

Not that it's ever low, he'll still take a while, but once you have your Shakas back it helps a lot too. The biggest issue is that he has a lot of HP and you have neither of them to help you out. Outside of that, use the element he's weak to (Fire as mentioned), and a great thing you can try to do is trip him while he's spinning. If you are able to do that your life gets a lot easier because his weak spot is the mounds on his back. There should be a small (then larger) safe zone right next to him when he's spinning so you can do damage and potentially knock him over.

I'm really glad it is only this bad the first time. Thanks for the tips on his weak spots, I did get him to trip a few times but didn't realise mounds was his weakness. (Was mostly aiming for legs and face when possible)

On a semi related note I'm really enjoying this game now, I like how the learning curve has been fair and now all the badass monsters start to come out to play. I found lagiacrus, rathian and gigginox quite challenging but managed to take them down after noticing how they behave.

I imagine things only ramp up from here too, which is awesome.

Gawd....even in G Rank Great Jaggi is such a pushover.

Did the Volvidon, Great Jaggi, Volvidon, Great Jaggi Extended quest. The Great Jaggis probably took me 5 minutes combined while the Volvidons took 20 combined. Such pushovers...

Hmm, any tips specifically on beating him for bowgun users? Is it still possible to trip him with said weapons?

I haven't gotten to it just yet (gotta kill Lagiacrus first), but my friend and I beat it on multiplayer and it took a long time :\

Basically anything that would be a normal stagger while he is spinning will knock him over instead. Bows and Bowguns have the distinct advantage of being able to hit the mounds without ever tripping him, PLUS you can easily attack him while he's spinning. It makes your life a LOT easier. Pierce and Normal 2/3 to the back are probably the best in dealing with him.

I don't really use Bowgun much, so I can't really suggest too much more. Just learn when his movements mean what attacks. For example, if he starts to turn his back towards you he's probably going to attack with his tail, so get close to him. He's a monster where watching him is by far the most beneficial, because of how he attacks. A lot of monsters you can tell they're going to attack you by them looking at you but Duram is different, so the quicker you learn his actions the easier it will be.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I was able to do High Rank in less than 20 minutes solo, and it was mostly because I knew exactly how to deal with just about everything he did (thanks to P3rd experience). I knew exactly when I would be in danger based on his movements, I don't even think he hit me more than a couple of times that run either. His massive HP pool makes these advantages much more useful than other monsters.

Well, my internet is out and I'm stealing a neighbor's wi-fi but it's very unstable, right now I'm about to kill my first rathalos and Barrioth, I have a ICE Long Sowrd, Lagia DB and Peco upgraded Gun lance. I don't know what table I have but I know it's not a cursed one thanks to a fire+3 one slot charm that I got that ins't in the cursed tables. Duramboross was really easy, I took him in like 30 mins the first time. This game is easier than Tri or maybe it's my experience, I don't know.

Would it be worth it to make HR Zinogre armor before I attempt Captain Goldbeard? Or should I man up and just farm him all day for his armor?

Goldbeard's armor is the first to give Sharpness +1, but not remotely the last.

I've done G Rank Wroggi, Jaggi and Volvidon, and both Wroggi and Jaggi have points in Sharpness+1 in their armor (not enough to completely make it, but still a decent amount). So far I don't see much reason in farming Goldbeard's armor, especially since you need to do 5 Extended G rank quests just to make it (Conqueror's Seals), and you get those by doing the earlier mentioned monsters.

Plus it seems that most G rank armor has decent skills, they really left all the good stuff for G Rank. I wouldn't bother with Jinouga. Just get decent defense and eat for Water Res and you should be fine.

I was looking into getting a 3DS tomorrow as well as this game, is the gameplay reasonably different with a circle pad pro if anyone happens to know? Or fine with or without it.

Sadly finding Charms that have the Handicraft skill already on them is extremely difficult, and the Decoration that gives the skill only increases by +1 and takes up 2/3 slots, so on armors that have some Sharpness +1 on them but not enough to complete the skill, it's basically worthless.

In fact, I haven't had any luck in finding ANY good Charms. The best I have is an Evasion +6 Charm, which I regularly use, but eh. Plan on going Enduring Charm/Timeworn Charm farming in G-Rank Volcano Harvest Quest once I unlock it.

And honestly, I find getting the Conqueror's Seals the easiest part. Those four-monster quests are pretty damn easy and quick, especially the one with Volvidon and Great Jaggi.

And also, is it just me, or does anyone else wish there was SOME kind of trading system in the game? I don't care if they made the requirements super high or you had to trade limb for limb, but it's so aggravating that up to Rare 4 you can trade with your friends, but above that, it's no-go. I know it defeats the purpose of hunting and getting your own materials, but after killing 40+ Brachydios for its Gem and still not getting it, it would be kinda nice to have the ability to trade a bunch of pomegranate I don't need for just one. Another argument I heard is that the game, despite it being about hunting giant monstrous creatures, is set in a bit of reality (like making all your stuff, carving/harvesting your materials, etc), but IMO, if there were really monster hunters out there making gear out of their carves, do they not think that they'd trade their hides and pelts with one another for the stuff they need? Of course they would. [/rantover]

You can key ZL and ZR to camera controls, so I say yes. Someone else said that they found the game too hard to play with it due to the increased size of the controls overall, but I think that is dependent on the user.

That is why set mixing and matching is oh so perfect.

I already have a set lined up, all I need is a Handicraft+5 charm. Once I unlock Volcano Gathering I intend to spend a few hours gathering and hope I get it. The set will have: Sharp+1, Razor Sharp, Awaken, and Status Attack+2. I intend to use it with the Naruga Duals, which gain Para with Awaken. At 300 Raw, 40% affinity, purple sharpness and Para attack....it may be the only set I ever use for duals again. As a result, if I have to mine for days I will. I've always loved Para, and to actually be able to make a decent set with it is all my want for this game right now.

Anything under Timeworn Charm is completely worthless. Always has been. I don't know why the low rank charms exist. They are always terrible.

In some ways, I really like that you can't trade. It makes getting what you want all that much more rewarding. Yes, there's times where it can be frustrating, but I would rather frustration than watching people running around in gear they didn't earn, and screwing over quests with their inability to play. I've had people who hacked gear like Akantor in F2 then fail Akantor quests in minutes by dying three times almost immediately. I would rather have to grind that stuff then deal with people who can't play and were carried through the entire game. Yes, it adds some frustration, but honestly overall there's more than enough content that unless you REALLY REALLY want something, you can easily space it out and do it over time.

Most of all this game is about skill. If you don't have it, you shouldn't be able to get powerful gear. It's really that simple in my opinion. To that end, not being able to trade proves that you have skill.

Yes, of course you could always sit in a corner while people play for you, but it's significantly harder to do that then it is to have someone just give you 1925019254091209 items and call it a day.

At least this isn't Frontier. I know I reference it a lot, but really...in Frontier, there's items you can only get at a 2% (used to be 1%) carve, and that's it. You can't get it in rewards at all. You can't get it from captures. You HAVE to get EXTREMELY lucky in carves. That puts ruby hunts to shame, it really does.

Care to share the armor pieces required for all that?

Nebula Helm X
Agnaktor Mail X
Nebula Vambraces X
Nebula Faulds X
Artian Greaves X
-----------------
+5 Handicraft ---
-----------------
1x Disabler Jewel 2
3x Disabler Jewel 1
1 slot spare
578 Max Defence
-----------------
Element Atk Down

I don't know what Artian Greaves are, to be honest, I might have to do some asking later. Nebula is the old name for Giggi armor.
The set will have that negative skill as well as the positive skills I listed earlier. The negative is completely meaningless if you are making use of the Status Attack buff.
