The Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Topic
Considering getting this for 3DS but I found the PSP one (MH Freedom I think?) really clunky and the camera was almost unusable.

Is this one any better? I really want to give the game a try again and it sounds a lot more promising. I'd be willing to get the circle pad pro if it makes it a better experience.

The camera is insanely hard to use on the 3DS without a Circle Pad Pro. If you have one of those you can set ZL and ZR to control left/right on the Camera, same thing on the Wii U which is why it doesn't have the same issue. I went out yesterday and brought my 3DS with my save...and I found it very very hard to play without one...and the 3DS XL doesn't have one in the US yet. I feel that it's going to be a long time before I can play MH3U on my 3DS. They tried very hard to make it possible to play without being able to claw like you can on the PSP, but it just doesn't work. The analog is not reliably controllable with your index finger, and when you use the touch screen you lose your ability to perform actions. It just doesn't work. The L-Camera-Lock function is useful, but it's severely limited and you don't really have full camera control with it either. The 3DS control setup just isn't suited for MH on its own at all and the CPP is extremely necessary.

Overall the mechanics and engine are far better starting with Tri. The camera was always pretty clunky in the original engine. The weapons are also more fluid and easier to get a handle on.

Hope they're back up by the time I can play.... >___>;

I kinda figured after my friend told me he had gotten the same error early on, but later resolved itself. They probably went past their bandwidth usage.

Thanks for the reply, it does sound a lot better to control if you can do that with the CCP. Also I'm glad the mechanics are refined a bit I loved the gameplay and could see the potential despite the problems which made it hard for me to stick with it.

Going to try the 3DS demo and possibly order it in a few days if I like it.

Just as a heads up, the demo does NOT allow you to use ZL/ZR as camera control. I don't know why they left that option out, it pissed me off (Unless I was blind), and originally made me fear that they didn't add that functionality again (It was absent in Tri, ZL/ZR basically did nothing). Just keep that in mind when you go to play it.

Tried the demo and I already like the controls better than the PSP one I played.

Also I quite enjoy the dual blade / bows. Going to try a few more weapons out but definitely ordering this in a few days. Shame the 3DS one doesn't have online though, I don't have a Wii U Frown

At least unlike the Gen 1+2 games, the online lobby stuff is possible to solo if you have to. Might want to make some friends that have 3DSes though =P.

I assume you mean ranking up. You have to do certain quests in the highest unlocked star level you have (So to get HR2 you need to do 1* quests), and eventually after you do the right ones you will unlock an Urgent quest. When you beat it you rank up. It's the same principle offline but no actual rank, you just unlock the next star level.

That's offline...so yeah just do quests and eventually you'll advance. Sometimes you need to do villager requests, so watch out for that if nothing is unlocking.

Dumbassboros just needs some adjusting. He fights very differently from most monsters in my opinion.

So like, I'm getting a 3DS mainly for this game. Sunk hours into MHF1 and 2, blahblah. Now the question is... to get a regular 3DS or an XL? @_@ (if there is any difference specific to this game, anyways)

well,the XL has a bigger screen( and im not sure if the Circle Pad Pro for the XL has been released in NA yet) other than you might have issues reading the text with the regular 3DS.
