Him and a few others are working on a fan-made English "patch." It's making pretty good progress.

3 new musical instruments have arrived in today's patch: the timpani, the clarinet and the harp.

I think some of you might find this interesting - nexon released the %u0025 chance to get items from a gachapon-style cash (merit) box (you can sell mesos for merit or purchase most of these items on the marketplace so I don't consider it a pay to win item).

http://maplestory2.nexon.com/Content/html/pop_item.html

The first six items on that list are what most people open for. Pretty low chances. A lot of the rank A and B stuff is still nice to get as consolation, though.

The other tabs (blue/red sack) in that webpage are old gachapon pouches that are no longer for sale.

Not at all. I have spent $0 on equips/enhancements and I am in the top 5 strongest Rangers in the game. It's a massive RNG-fest at its core and throwing money at it just cuts down on farming to give you more chances.
35 of the boxes costs 2400 merits, which is ~44m mesos, which can be farmed by doing the daily dungeons for 5-6 days and just selling the standard drops. That doesn't take into account any good luck you could have.

There are several areas they could have abused to make it p2w, specifically enhancements, and they instead revamped the original system away from a paying aspect.

it's a yellow flag for a reason, but it's still a yellow flag for me.

The game is suffocating in the SK game market. Inven doesn't even show MS2 on their top 50 popular games list anymore. Since they can't rely on their huge population buying 5-10 dollars worth of NX from time to time anymore, they've started putting P2W pomegranate in it. Gotta make money somehow I guess ._.

Whenever people say ''This current item isn't a big deal'' what they often ignore is that it just sets a bad precedent for the future of the game.

Today, it's a really low reward item with astronomical odds of being vastly overpowered, but what of tomorrow? Really sucks man, the game was looking so good. Hope it gets localized ASAP. :x

I do agree with the pay to win aspect it has, but you guys are severely overestimating the benefit it can give. At most you can get a +10 scroll and most people won't take that for any of the casual end game dungeons, let alone the hard ones.

Yes, it's a bad precedent, but like Keith said - it's not as popular as they hoped. We won't see an NA version until 2017 at the earliest, if we see one at all.
They're trying to keep it away from pay to win but they aren't getting the revenue they hoped for. It's still a fun game and everything can be achieved relatively easily (~2-3 months of playing) without ever having to pay.

Regardless of the slowly creeping p2w elements, I hope they bring the game over to the west soon.

What bryan said here is completely true, but that all depends on your RNG. It might get you a +12 or completely nothing, I've blown x'ed around 200~300m worth of raw mesos the last 7 days and managed to get nothing good out of it.

Justin Wrote:Regardless of the slowly creeping p2w elements

Even with the p2gamble and the p2w with merit -> mesos (For example; A single +12 is now going for around 300m mesos <-> 15~16K Merit which is 160$), this game will still remain far less forgiving when it comes to being bad than comparing it to MS1. You will still die and do pomegranate DPS if you're pomegranate. I mean, without spending billions you won't even get enough +13's to theoretically get a chance for getting a +14 (13% chance)

The real problem will come when they lock out people with bosses that have very hard DPS checks, which directly require people needing higher weapons than +12's, and thus spend merit to get there, but then again all RNG. At the moment you can do every boss quite easily with a +11/+12 T3 or +10 Balrog.

It sure isn't doing well as intended. Last news I heard was that new job, Rune Blader or something.

Any reason for it not doing well?

A lot of the English community quit because of how casual the game is. Equipment/upgrade system is trash (seriously, they could have done so much better). Actual content is very slow. Little to no skill is involved in any boss fights - they are pretty much all DPS races. Damage comes solely from weapon enhancement, which is 110% luck.
There was basically no economy until rather recently, when they started allowing certain equipment to be traded.
Rumor is another class is already being planned.

I personally don't think we'll ever see a version for NA.

As someone who works too much to really invest in an MMO, i'd have been perfectly fine with all of those flaws just for the charming content creation. I'm really hoping they still bring it over and market the customizable housing and fashion system for our version and try to aim for that social game demographic.
