My daughter did ALL of the things I told her to do and it still didn't work. Nowadays they seem to come in packs and a simple black eye or fat lip will only embarrass them and involve their friends. Even my own children have had to learn lessons the hard way. Sometimes that's just the way it is. And some still never learn.
Well, if a group of kids are coming after your kid then they stand even less of a chance. And if their friends are going to get involved over a black eye I can only imagine the retaliation if your kid hospitalized their friend.
Also, the media is your friend. Newspapers, local news, even major news stations like HLN will air human interest stories and the parents of these kids and schools will be so embarrassed that they will make sure their kids straighten the hell up.
edit: and enroling them in karate for self defense. No one will screw with a kid who knows karate.

That's the thing... If a bunch of kids realize that this one kid can cause serious harm to a person if messed with, then no one will mess with them. If one would hospitalize another (I'm not saying I condone that), no one would EVER mess with them. I think they would be afraid of the kid, even. I've seen such occurrences in one of my schools at one point.

I've been in two "fights" my entire life, and both of them entailed one punch.
The first one was in my middle school english class. A kid named Angel was taunting, poking, and slapping me in the back for days. I just put up with it because at first, it was very easy to ignore and just laugh off. But then everyone started making fun of me, calling me a puss. That still didn't bother me all that much, until Angel hit me pretty hard in the back of the head. In one fell swoop, I brought my entire arm and fist back behind me and clocked him right in the head, and down he went. My English teacher, Mrs. Carter, took me out in the hall, and I kid you not, this is EXACTLY what she said: "Honestly Michael, I'm surprised you didn't hit him sooner. I'm glad you defended yourself, but just know that violence isn't always the answer, but apparently it was the only thing Angel would understand." Guess what? The little bastard asshole never even so much as looked my way ever again.
The second one was outside my Calculus class my senior year of high school in 2003. Yes I was a senior, and yes some guy was "picking" on me. I didn't consider him a threat because he wasn't. I had my back turned to the door of the classroom talking to about 6 other guys when another Hispanic kid grabbed my backpack and tried to throw it on the ground. I easily shook him off and told him to screw off. About this time, my Calculus teacher came waltzing out because she heard some commotion. He grabs my backpack again and manages to get it off my back this time, while pulling me to the ground. I simply got up, dropped my backpack, and gave him one good square punch to mouth. When he went down, I fully expected retaliation, but he never even got up. I looked at him and said "If you ever fuck with me again, I will beat you within a half inch of your life, dumbass." Guess what? The little bastard asshole never even so much as looked my way ever again.
.....
There really is nothing to argue. When I finally have kids, I will tell them never to start or pick fights. But, on opposite side of that token, I will also tell them if someone hits you or is trying to cause bodily harm, either hit them the fuck back, or defend yourself. I'm not going to tell my children to be pussies and back down. If someone is bullying you ANYWHERE by slapping, hitting, punching, or anything of the sort, the correct medium of remedy is not a pep talk about how bullies shouldn't be bullies. It's a fucking Michael Chiklis fist to the face, which translates into a big "Get the fuck away from me before I beat the ever-living shit out of you."

Adding onto the story, the mother of the bully wants the victim to say sorry.
Quote:IT'S a tale of David and Goliath at an outer western Sydney school - with Goliath fighting back against his much smaller schoolyard bully.
But now the bully's mother has retaliated against her son's victim and the video footage of the fight which has gone viral.
The emotional mother of Ritchard Gale, Tina, told the Seven Network last night that she and her family have been victimised by the footage, which has spread worldwide. She also demanded an apology from the victim.
"We don't need this posted everywhere," she said. "I would like him to apologise."
She said she was "shocked" at her son's behaviour, but did not think he deserved to be bodyslammed by Year 10 student Casey Heynes at Chifley College's Dunheved Campus, St Marys.
"I was actually shocked because I always brought my three children up to walk away from fights," she said.
The video footage of the Year 7 boy, who was hurled to the ground after trying to start a fight with the larger student, was taken down from the YouTube website, but has been posted on websites globally.
At thetelegraph.com.au, the footage was viewed four times more than the devastation that has struck Japan.
The controversy over whether Casey's retaliation was appropriate dominated website and radio programs yesterday and became the subject of global online forums.
The international interest comes on the eve of the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. The focus of tomorrow's campaign will be bystanders.

I must say, living in western Sydney myself, fights are way too common around here, most guys (like the bully) always acting like they're king sh'it. I always hear school kids on the bus acting tough & talking about fights. There has been a lot of stabbing/shooting going on either at or around school during the past few months.

1. People shouldn't be fighting in the first place
2. little kid had it coming to him. The bigger guy looks like he didn't want pomegranate to do with the little kid.
3. If you instigate something, be sure as hell you can back that pomegranate up. You don't go taunting some kid who's almost 2 times your size AND to add to it, you strike first? First strike = declaration of something. Big man, unless he did something to the little kid before, just cracked.
If some little snot was aggravating me and i was that big, I'd have dropped him too. Sometimes it's really easy to ignore the taunts because they're just words and they'll never hurt you unless you let them. But if their poking and throwing stuff at you and you feel your life is threatened enough to snap? There is only so much one person can tolerate. Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and tell them "i won't let you give me pomegranate anymore."

He doesn't look very intimidating, and looked like this isn't the first time he's been made fun of or hit. He's also overweight, and usually the overweight person isn't the one doing the bullying, they're the ones receiving it. Now, yes, there's no way to no for sure, but it's almost certain the smaller was the bully and the bigger was the victim.
The big one isn't actually the bully; he's actually been bullied for most of his life and never done a thing about it. Well, until he beat that kid up.

Umm you confused me. What do you mean people shouldnt be fighting? But then you talk about fighting if someone push you to far? Explain?

I'm pretty sure he means avoid fighting if you can. Although he didn't word it that way, I'm 99.99% sure that's what he meant. I can see how it would be confusing though, because the way he worded it sounds very equivocal.

I meant to say victim, as you can read in the rest of my post it describes him as being this way.
I'll edit the first sentence now since I didn't realize I had accidentally said he was the bully.

What i meant was that people should avoid fighting/conflict as much as possible, but there is an unclear limit of how much abuse a person can take. And when a person reaches that snapping point, all hell breaks loose, as was (i assume) the case in this video.

even then, the big guy did one hit, ONLY one, you can see the other kid after the first one got zangief'd also picking up on him, he does nothing, he justs leaves, honestly, the big kid did what he had to do.
and fights shouldn't happen, just as bullying shouldn't, but they do, and as such, sometimes a punch is necessary

In the situation he was it, it seemed he was being tagged by a group of kids. I really doubt a punch to the small kid's eye would have resolved it, it'd just start the signal for the others to jump in and outnumber him. By putting on a big show with the slam, he intimidated the others. It showed when the other dude came in but couldn't bite with his bark when staring face to face with Zangief.
Could be wrong relly, depends on the situation. Do something like a punch that anyone can do and you'll probably end up jumped by the othrs watching. Do something huge that'll leave them and shocked and they'll have to think twice before jumping in. About if it'd really be worth the risk of gettomg slammed just to be a douchebag.

If the little kid was egged on, I think it would be reported already.
Here's a situation I was in when an ass kicking is necessary. When i was 16 my friend Nick wanted to get into boxing, and the whole neighborhood kind of bandwagone'd. It was good fun, but my friend daniel didn't want too. Most of the kids were between 17-20, and I pretty much went about a dozen rounds, fighting different people, just getting the hang of things. Well they egged Daniel on too fight me after the round between Nick and another kid were done. Well I was exhausted, but I was pretty much testing my endurance. I was the Frank train back in soccer and dont back down from any challenge lmao. Anyway daniel knocks me out in 2 hits, and he bragged about it. Well I let him have his rights to brag, though mentioning that I was exhausted from the rounds I had to go through.
Anyway about 2 weeks pass, and he gets in a fight over a football game we were playing which was a ritual of our community. We have 6-8 vs 6-8 and daniel was having the QB too toss the ball pass the line of scrimage. Technically this is a complete pass, however we didn't have 12 linebackers slamming into eachother and I told him that's utter BS and makes no sense. He think proceeds to spit in my face, where I just look at him and call him a dumb ass coward. He then hit me, which honestly didn't hurt anything more than my pride. He was always faster than me, so he ran when I tried to get him another punch. He then bragged about this for another 2 weeks.
At this point, while he's bragging to his crush and everyones kind of rolling their eyes cus he completely did it over the top, well I challenged him to a boxing match at nicks house. Well he shows whole bus got off (everyone on it are like in a 10-15 minute walk, through the wood paths we made ect), I put on the gloves, left myself open, he threw a left, I ate it, and right hooked him that knocked him on his ass. I spit on him, he charged, and I give him another right breaking his nose, where he went home cus he was bleeding.
In response to this we grew distant, got addicted to steroids, got expelled for breaking a kids face for taking his seat, and now deals 8 balls at his grandmothers house where they turn a blind eye.
pineappleing dumb ass.

I quite agree. I finally did about the exact same thing he did after 3 years of constant torment. I'm almost certain none of those kids will pick on him again. Listening to him speak, I almost cried. What a beautiful young boy he is.....with such beautiful eyes.
