New hacking epidemic

Sorry if these are kind of a noobish questions, but I understand the hack works when you cc, but is it confirmed that it works when you MTS/CS? (I read that one account where it seems that way, but I haven't heard that anywhere else, so I'm just double checking).

And also, are you vulnerable when you change maps as well (via portal)? What about Mini Dungeons? If I go in a mini dungeon and cc out, am I vulnerable at that moment? Does the hacker have to be on the same map/channel as you before or after you cc? (As in, are you ccing TO him only?) If I MTS out of a mini dungeon, will that be safe?

So I guess, in a word, how safe are Mini Dungeons, or are they safe at all?

And as a side note, if you get into a situation where you lag and you think someone might be trying to hack you, if you terminate MS before you actually "lag out" will that prevent the hacker from being able to continue as you, if you're fast enough? (Kind of a forcible d/c). I'm guessing no, but I was just wondering >_>

As far as I've seen, changing maps is not a risk, and I don't see why mini-dingeons would be any more risky that any other map. However, I would exit by the portal or use nearest town scroll, not use cc to exit.
I believe the hacker has to know or guess what channel (or CS) you are switching to for this to work, I don't know about same map or not.
I doubt that there is any sign of forewarning like lag for this method of hacking; they are sending false instructions to the server, not to your client.
Guessing logging out would protect you, but wouldn't stake my life on it.
Sometimes when I log out, it seems like the server doesn't get the message, and still thinks I'm logged in for a minute or so. Presumably you would be very vulnerable at such a time.

Do you guys remember the glitch where if you lagged bad enough and you looked for someones info, your own info would appear?

Someone was asking if it was possible that once you d/c the hacker has your equipment/inventory windows open? So for instance I d/c hack Bob, then hit E and I to open what should be MY windows but instead Bob's windows show up. Then I just drop and pick up the items and viola the items are mine. Would this even be plausible?

Also when people get hacked and claim even their untradable items are missing, the hacker probably just dropped it.

Didn't pay much attention to this thread considering all that's happened in the past, what, four weeks or so? But I finally clicked it and ZOMG Ken was hacked? . He's a good friend of mine from before he server transferred (it's Kenxx242, by the way)...damn. If he got hit this is definitely legit.

I read today in the MS forums that somone got hacked after going into the CS. So there could be several things here that are happening and we're not fully aware of them just yet.

My suspicion is that if your destination requires a port switch at the server side, i.e. channel change, mts, cash shop, exiting and entering game, there's a chance for your character to be hijacked. Exiting the game is probably safe since there's no point for the hacker to take over there, unless they can somewhat revert the call halfway and direct your character transfer somewhere else. Logging onto the game might be tricky to track and anticipate, unless you're relogging.

Do you think it's possible if someone can hack you if the hacker himself changes channels? Currently, the theory only includes the person to be hacked changing channels.

To model this, I'll use an analogy. Pretend that you are on a moving train. Instead of viewing the train as the moving object and the Earth as stationary, if the train were stationary, then the Earth is moving.

Really it depends how effectively they can use the method. If they are asking people to CC it's probably only a short term specific channel thing, if they could do more widespread (24/7 attempts on all 19 channels) they could just do that on high level characters they knew were active.

@ Harrisonized: no, that's not how it works. You have to change channel because it goes
1) tell server you're changing channel
2) disconnect from channel
3) attempt to connect to other channel

Any time between 1 and 3, if the hacker attempts to connect to the other channel before you, they can 'steal' the connection.

The problem with a killswitch like that is that anyone who manages to get your information could use it just to piss you off. It's like a Nexon approved DC hack.

I don't know how that works but I find that completely unnecesarry. Assuming it takes a few seconds to strip down the valuables, the damage would already be done by the time you have successfully operate it. Promoting the idea would just make playing the game even more unpleasant.
