Where are we now? 4 years later and the game is as strong as ever. It has more players than ever, and though it's declining, Nexon has gotten a good enough cash shop that for the most part they make much more money per person than they used to. Things aren't great, but I can't see 'maplestory 2.0' fixing things unless it's a full replacement of ms with character and item transfer. Nobody that has played an mmo wants to just drop their progress and every hour they've put into a game and just move on to ms 2.0. The more likely scenario is that ms 2.0 is just a rewritten version of the same game with better security. Aka, big bang 2.
What's really needed is validation checking on inputs, packet checking, and better software than hackshield. 99% of the exploits we see now are simply "record packet 1, change value, spam new packet", or some variety of that. If they did simple things like validating input, scanning packets for abnormal values, or replacing hackshield with whatever that old one was that fixed hacking for a few years we'd be much better off.
I doubt it's the same topic. I did say that hackers are taking over again, I don't care about nexon and I don't care if they're greedy or not, meso buyers have ruined the economy but I never said the game has it days counted or that it won't last longer. I actually said it will last for who knows how long. This is not nexon bashing or maplestory hating and hoping it closes*.
By reading all posts, specially yours, I now notice that Nexon does step up sometimes and saves the game from all the threats. One way or another they find ways to sporadically reduce hackers to a minimum. The economy is ruined but it could be worse (probably was?)... if we still were pre bb I can only imagine meso buyers, hardcore players and nx hoes being able to get avg/decent/godly equips and supplies. It's true that after bb patch fm isn't as needed and one doesn't need that many mesos to train efficiently.
*I'm completely ignorant when it comes to hacking, coding and legal ways nexon could use to stop hackers, therefore meso sellers too (to certain extent). All I want from this thread is see educate guesses and arguments that tells me if there's a solution to all these problems if they ever get worse. I know the game won't close soon but we all know that if hackers keep doing their things and releasing them to the public, things could go awfully bad any time. I won't bother arguing//asking how they will handle near future hack/exploit cases because I can guess that myself. What I wonder what is the "big" solution if we ever need one? What are the tools they can use to save the game? We can guess if they will use those tools or not just looking at how they have handled things in the past and right now but we can't know that yet... however that's not what I asked for.

The game was pretty much still devoloping then, I mean horntail was the big shot. There were a lot of improvements, including an increase of damage gap, new classes, new areas, essentially patching over all the damage. I mean it was gamebreaking back then, but with something like potential, any groundbreaking equipment was replaced in a matter of days. There isn't as much, if not any room for a repeatable upgrade that would make something..as broken as 27 attack shoes be a social norm, or 26 attack gloves. I mean to make another upgrade like that would make any item obsolete currently.
Unfortunately this is probably going to inevidently happen, which is just the same recycling process.

To clarify, I wasn't calling you out. I'm simply saying that this game has always had major issues, yet people continue to play and it continues to thrive. People look back and say "there was a point where there was a vac hacker in nearly every map". In another year, people will look back and say "there was a point where every event that came out was exploited". It's just how it goes. The more nexon patches these packet editing problems the more they are *hopefully* learning about how to prevent them. There's a reason that half the packet hacks from the beginning are patched/autoban. I remember infinite hp and meso packets from back when people said packet editing would get you arrested. Hacking is a sort of constant battle. For now Nexon is losing, but it usually swings back so give them some time. Regardless of what people say, ms is a cash cow and until that changes nexon is going to do anything they can to keep people playing. That means keeping players happy. They've been changing things for the better but they rarely get credit. Updates are faster, downtime is less, and every patch they seem to fix at least a few of the hacks. They aren't perfect but it could be (a little) worse.
I wouldn't doubt 'maplestory 2.0' is in development, but I doubt it's what people are thinking. Either way though it's all just opinion until nexon decides to release actual info on it. As of now there are no screens, no verifiable articles, no anything. It's just random websites claiming they've heard ms 2.0 is coming. People should stop worrying and just play the game. Enjoy it while it's here. When it ends, there will still be private servers should you need to get a maple fix. Heck, if maplestory 2 lets you transfer you might even keep your beloved characters. We don't know yet.

I just posted there, I believe the post can be good for this thread as well.
However, I read in one of the forums ones.
Don't cry for maple, becase maple won't cry for you.
I learned to live with it, but i still hope for the day the game will be legit.
is it that much to ask for?

The only thing they can do is either make potential way easier to get (like what they did with PQ items in KMS, where it has a way higher chance of revealing unique), or make scrolls that give %stat.

I think it's pretty pomegranatety they're using the loads of money they're making from MS to develop OTHER games WITHOUT putting enough of money back into MapleStory development, despite that being their main money source.
Eh. They need some downtime. But I'm afraid they'd just pineapple it up. They need more competent employees, especially a more competent owner. Nexon is a PoS.
