We all know the situation in gMS: hackers and meso buyers everywhere and Nexon doing nothing about it*.
I just read the threads about what happened during eMS anniversary...
I've seen some SS from hacks/exploits in other versions (MSEA and MSChina?) but that was long ago, and in general I have no clue of what happens in other versions other than "kMS doesn't have as much hackers because they ask for SSN".
Now that such "agressive" hacks are released to the public constantly it makes me wonder what's the future of gMS...
I don't mean near future because I doubt Nexon will do anything drastic about it soon. Basicly because they're getting good money and will keep getting good money for who knows how many years and hackers don't seem to affect Nexon's proft.
The way I see it they're going to handle w8 and GK the same (or in a similar) way they did with NexonKiller and nodelay hack few years ago... if they ever do.
But what's the long term future for gMS? Will Nexon let the game die because of hackers or will they step up at some point in time? Will there be a way so they fix the damage done by hackers? Will they find a way to save the game or we just have to wait patiently until the game dies?
I know no one can see the future but I'd like to read some educated guessing on MapleStory's future.

I doubt they'd do anything beyond first-aid patching of whatever hack shows up, followed by some random bans and item deletions, until the release of MapleStory 2.0. Then they'll just let the current version go entirely.

i highly doubt nexon is going to close in the next 5 years. nexon employs i would guess around more than thousands around the world. the fate that met with vietnamMS was inevitable however, MSEA, Global, Korea and Japan still have very strong support for the game even with nexon's slip-shod sloppiness because maplestory is just a good game overall...

And I hope it will completely revamp grinding, so that it's actually fun and completely rebuild the anti-hack system. Not to forget house system and that quests will be GOOD exp.

GMS is still a strong game with many users buying NX to support the game regardless of the recent exploits.
EMS, on the other hand, I'm not so sure, Nexon Europe doesn't treat their games very fairly.

If any MS version with a semi high user amount is going to fall in the foreseeable future, it will be EMS.

It's definitely not out of the picture for gMS to do so too, though. It's fairly easy to notice that the game is getting to/at the point where there are less people joining than leaving. Given how there seem to be new exploits almost every week causing way too much downtime, it's certainly possible that the game can deteriorate even faster than it is now to the point that warrants closing in the next 5 years. It's inevitable that the game will close, it's really just a matter of when, really.

Agreed.
I don't think Nexon Europe should be hosting Vindictus Europe. I'm pretty sure that Vindictus Europe will fail as well.

I don't get it. Why is it a fact maplestory will close down soon? I say it'll keep going for 100+ years, with probably a level cap raised to 1000, the world being 10 times as big, +50 jobs, resolution 10x HD, potentials on potentials on potentials etcetc.

Yea, Maplestory is not closing down, at least, in my view, not that soon. However, thinking that it will last 100+ years is too optimistic.

They'll need to do something soon if they don't want their reputation (or lack thereof) to suffer.

Isn't it obvious? Dragon Nest will be their new #1 game and main focus and will let Maple die.

They'd have better success with Vindictus or DFO if they wanted to go that route.
Then again, the other teams within NexonNA aren't totally stupid and money hungry as the Maple team.

In my view, Ms is the game that gives nexon the most money since it isnt IP banned like the other games, and if things would have been approaching a Game breaking point they would resolve it almost instantly (See Meso Exploits, Enhacement Hacks, Etc). GMS Future does indeed look rather gloomy but i give like 7-10 years before they move on to MS 2.0 or other games, and thats saying much since a good game could last like 5-7 years tbh, because games always reach the point where they cant be improved anymore thx to base code limitations and what not, and the easiest solution for this is always to start with a new game (This is in my view but im no frigging expert).

Maple's popularity is still hanging about the same as D&F in Korea. It's clearly not as big as it once was, but I think it still has a couple years to go. There was a point where Nexon absolutely relied on MapleStory's success, but you can see that they've added a bunch of other games now and that dropping MapleStory won't be too big of a deal a few years from now.

what?! Vindictus doesn't even have constant updates to tie over its current base and when you reach the level cap its over.
How can you separate the NexonNA team? The other teams are made up of people from other games. Why hire new people when its better to have associates that can work on more than one game. Also how is the maple team money hungry again? Nx events? Cubes? Maple revolves around the cash shop that is how the game was designed sadly! To call the maple team money hungry is ignorant. As if they have a choice on the nx matters.
Also maplestory will still be the flagship for gms. Just, because you are not appealed to the game anymore doesnt mean it will fail down the road. Their are others who love maplestory. Go sit in the fm, training areas, etc and you will witness maplers who are actually enjoy the game. Those will reefer their friends and so and so on
Maple will be doing fine without the ones who hate it to death.

How many of you know players who have played the last 3 years? Let alone 5, I'm sure that list isn't that big anymore. See the entire genius that players don't see about nexon is the game refreshes every year. I'm serious, look at the original exploit with white scrolls. Back then, having a 150 attack spear was gamebreaking, never going to surpass that in x amount of years. Yet now it's an average (Between 130-150), the game get's bulkier, and eventually scar tissue gets over the cuts and bruises of past hacks.
Nexon doesn't have to put to much thought into it nowadays because they know the community isn't constant and not a lot of players stick around for more than 3 years at a time, because they tire of the hacks. But they'll be back in another year or so when the game hits another layer of power. The players that were once naive noob's, not understanding the fuss as it's "Their story" therefore won't effect them, then begin to understand the impacts as they have reached the levels their former "idols" left at. One of these years they're gonna have to stop relying on this recycling process, otherwise in 5 years this game will not be closed, but never be the same.
