Unscheduled Server Maintenance - 05.08.2011

Which their developers should know they have to protect against, by now.
The server blindly believing the client (or what it believes to be the client) is at fault in every single hack and exploit in this game, yet they keep coding it that way, with every new event and skill.

This no rollback thing is real great. Now I don't have to bust my nuts scrolling my dagger again.

I wonder how they define the exploit abusers.
People with 100+ Chaos scrolls? Lol.

At least I'm glad to see them do something. Hope they live up to the expectations.

I have a feeling Nexon will set the bar lower than that. Only time can tell.

Expect them to do the same as they did in ems, remove x amount of items if person have above x amout of it. What happen to ems was people who had past 2,1b mesos on one char would lose almost 70% of their total mesos but people who had 300m would lose 2-5%. If Im correct, people with past 400 20% scrolls will lose over 300 of them but hey, thats just a guess Tongue

I know how packet editing works. Tell me, why can't you do this in potionshops, weapon stores and other NPCs to get yourself a Chaos Horntail Pendant for example? Exactly, because they are correctly coded.

The lower they go, the happier I am. I honestly don't think any 99.9%-legitimate player would have more than 10 of those in their inventory.
If they have to ban everyone in the process of doing so, MISSION F'UCKING ACCOMPLISHED; and I didn't even have to do anything.

You will then have to make the server think it should give you a Chaos Horntail Pendant. How do you suggest that should be done?

EDIT: Holy f'uck, I gave in after 5 minutes and tried to kill that bug on my screen. Damn you Snor.

Not really contributing to the topic, but in regards to your edit, Kal.. I adblocked that bug when I first saw it. I don't usually mind those. But that one stops. And starts. And stops. And starts. And it drove me crazy.

Going off by that logic, they'd ban a lot of legit people in the process because a lot of people have hoarded Chaos Scrolls before this event even began (as with trying to profit whenever the scrolls would inflate once again). I won't even mention about the people who've hoarded Chaos/Pinks during this event as well. So that's a lot to take in, imo.

Edit: Haha, that bug is amusing, indeed.

Personally I've made a bundle buying chaos scrolls off of exploiters in FM entrance, and reselling them in the FM for 200k more. Hope I dont get banned for that :|

So there's a time set for the maintenance to end. Anyone wants to make bets about the extending time?

**Update 2** Maintenance times and details have been updated below. Thank you for your continued patience.

-Changes-

The 6th Anniversary coins exploit has been blocked.
Chaos scrolls are temporarily unusable and untradable.
All items obtained with 6th Anniversary coins are temporarily untradable and have a value of 0 mesos if sold to an NPC.
Chaos scrolls have been permanently removed from the list of items that can be obtained for 6th Anniversary coins.

All players that abused this exploit will be banned, however we understand that some players may have simply made a poor decision, so all players will be given until 5/15/2011 to voluntarily remove the exploited items from their accounts by selling them to an NPC for 0 mesos. If all exploited items are removed in time, you will not be banned (please note that you must remove the items from ALL of your accounts.) Once our investigation is complete and all applicable bans are issued, we will return the items that remain to normal. We hope that most players will do the right thing and remove the items if they know they are exploited.

Can you make poorly-coded Cassandra give you a CHTP? No. You can't make an NPC dispense items that are not in its "inventory", so to speak. What packet editing can do is make the NPC think you qualify for whatever it does give out, when you don't. Hence, this exploit made Cassandra give out coins. Not meso, or Chaos Scrolls, or White Scrolls, or CHTPs, or anything else.

Well, that's a decent decision for once.
I'm glad for you guys that there's no rollback. Though I understand that the hackers get away scot-free with what they sold over the past week or so, screwing over the people who legitimately trained and legitimately bought and sold Chaos Scrolls isn't worth getting hackers who will resurface again anyway.

That being said though, I wasn't on Maple in the last week so I'm glad that this doesn't affect me. I'm sad to see the Chaos Scrolls go though, I wanted to finish my Dep Star that I started Chaosing at the end of last weekend's 2x event.

I have to say that is a unique and unexpected decision from Nexon.

They're probably bluffing, but are you willing to risk it?

Haven't done any coin trading other than trying out a Pendant of the Spirit, but I think I have a couple of Chaos scrolls that dropped from Hankies while I was getting Soul Driver. I'm probably not going to risk Nexon's ability to tell legit from exploited, and toss 'em.

I wonder if this includes maple weapons being untradeable if they were dropped from monsters -.o?
Same goes for chaos scrolls.

What about Maple weapons though? Those are obtained from the NPC. I'm very curious about what exactly they intend to do, if anything.

It's not possible to do that, indeed. I just mean that if any developer with brains could've created a simple NPC script which disables people from exploiting it. In JavaScript it will be something simple like;
if (cm.haveItem(mapleweaponID, 1)) {
cm.gainItem(coinID, random);
cm.gainItem(mapleweaponID, -1);
}

This is a function that's being used in every other script. If you don't have the 'mapleweaponID', you can't use that function. It can't be bypassed or edited and is being used everytime. If you do have the 'mapleweaponID', you get a random amount of coins (stated in a variable) and lose the 'mapleweaponID'. It's really that simple.

And I know, the bug is amusing. I tried killing it too when I first saw it d:
