Opinions on Evan

Spideyjvc Wrote:Don't monsters get hit by the attack the second you press the skill button? As in, if they're in your range, and you press the button, the game registers them as "hit" and so they take damage even if they walk away.

That works for the actual hit, but they can still, in most cases, keep moving around during the animation (which is why you see this Evan getting kb'd so frequently while on merely the top level of Blue Wyverns). If you have a skill like Flame Wheel that has a roughly 3 second cast time, the monsters have a good second or two to walk out of your range, which means you physically need to move back into range just to finish them off. It's an utter waste of time that slows down training tremendously.

Hahaha very funny. The only skill that Evans possess capable of OHKOing everything worth killing (ex. training at Skeles, etc.) is Dark Fog, which has a long enough cooldown to make it a near-useless training skill. The other mobbing skills an Evan has max out, if I remember correctly, with Flame Wheel at 300 base attack, an attack equal to an I/Ls max Ifrit.

So tell me: how many I/Ls do you know capable of OHKOing Skeles with Ifrit?

Even with a Fire Wand, Dragon Fury, and 170% crit ability 25% of the time, no Evan will be capable of ohkoing the monsters they need to train on with their mobbing skills. The base attack needs to be in the high 500s for that.

And what's the final caveat to your comment? If an Evan is reduced to something that attacks slowly, but can ohko things with its mobbing attacks, all you have created is a weaker single target DPS ArchMage with a few good party skills. In other words, you really haven't improved much.

But then again, Nexon doesn't really improve much, so I guess we're just debating for nothing.

I said this in another topic but it was lost so...

I think the reason we're seeing nerfed skele/newt mobs in the data is because of their attack/speed. Clearly they're never going to hit 90k+ consistently but 65k isn't completely ridiculous. It'll likely be an evan only training area, but if it's on decent maps then it shouldn't be too bad. I'd still like to see faster attacks though.

There's very few vids of high level Evans, and the ones that exist feature players that are not very well equipped. I dont think I can really make any conclusions until more vids come out.

I posted this video in one of Fiel's extraction threads. If you have the patience to let it load, you'll see that Evans really do have lackluster damage. This guy has 18 base luk yet has a Reverse Wand equipped. His MATK is 1141 at level 142 without Maple Warrior. That is godly, even by GMS standards.

Bribery Wrote:Here's a decent training video, though it's on Insoya (someone upload to youtube plox). He has pretty good control over his character, but I still think Evan's attacks are too slow and weak. The official release date seems to be December 17th, so hopefully they make some more changes before then.

Level 142 Evan @ Skeles

He's actually quite strong equipment wise so you can't use the "he's only weak because it's KMST" argument. He has 1141 Matk at level 142, without Maple Warrior, which is very impressive even by GMS standards. The SS is posted below the video.

Also notice how he doesn't use a single 10th mastery skill. Either he doesn't have any points in them, or the 10th mastery skill level is 150+.

Scrolled mage gear doesn't add much damage. Besides, we know the base damage of the skills and the casting speed. From that along we can pretty much tell how strong they can get, if they had the right equips. They're still lacking.

I have to agree. I just watched the video posted in the changes thread, with a guy who had GODLY gear, and he was hitting 35k with Fire Circle, and getting hit every time. Not to mention he has to be standing inside monsters to push them. The casting times on these things suck. Even the 5 second stun added to Dragon's Breath is not enough to make up for the horrid speed.

Hmm, well that is dissapointing. Hopefully KMST players will pick up on these issues and Nexon will balance out the class a bit more. Looks like I'm going to have to wait out on Legendaries and stay with my bucc. (Arans look like an expensive class since they require surfboards and arcglives to reach their full potential.)

Actually, their strongest move is "Blaze", which is 320 Basic Attack and attacks 6 monsters. In reality, it is 340 base attack, because of Soul Dragon that they get in 1st Mastery. They also get AMP from the 7th Mastery, which is 135%. The skill, according to Fiel's thread, is supposed to work like chain-lightning.

The difference with Ifrit is that it's completely detached from your character: it doesn't get AMP nor a boost from elemental weapons.

Let's compare Blaze to an ultimate:

Blizzard: 570 base attack, 140% Amp, 125% Elemental
Blaze: 320+20 base attack, 135% Amp, 125% Elemental

With the stats that Bribery posted, that means with 20 MW and level 150, that particular mage will have 1256 magic and 997 INT total, which is pretty good to some extent.

Blizzard: 79977 - 99188
Blaze: 46001-57051

Blizzard at level 200: 111770-135187
Blaze at level 200: 64289-77758

So maybe I was wrong about 1HKOing. But they can definitely 2HKO, and then they won't have that problem that was shown in that video with the wyverns.

You're forgetting other skills, like ice breath, which freezes things directly in front of the Evan, and Dragon Thrust, which knocks back things (I'm thinking Dragon Breath on a Bowmaster.)

It would make their gameplay a lot like a corsair's.

Fiel's thread is incorrect for Soul Dragon. It is actually +20 Matk. Plus, Blaze is only available at level 160+ according to other sources. Blaze is their strongest single target attack, if you factor in EWands, but it does less damage than Flame Wheel on larger mobs (I think it's 3+).

Except Blizzard does that damage to 15 monsters. Blaze does that damage to 1 monster, and is reduced by 25% for every other monster. Blaze is a decent single target skill (and even then it barely outdamages Paralyze when you consider their attacking speeds).

You're forgetting other skills, like ice breath, which freezes things directly in front of the Evan, and Dragon Thrust, which knocks back things (I'm thinking Dragon Breath on a Bowmaster.)

That's great and all but it doesn't improve their damage at all. If anything, having to use Ice Breath (which isn't even 100% freeze) and Dragon Breath slows down their training even more and makes them even weaker than their Arch Mage counterparts.

Flame Wheel is going to be their main training attack until 10th mastery, which is supposedly at level 160. It's almost as slow as Genesis and has less than half the damage and hits almost 1/3rd the amount of monsters.

Evans don't get a spammable ultimate AND they're weaker than regular Arch Mages in terms of single target damage. Their only saving grace is the -20% Magic Damage party skill and that's really only useful at Tongue1.

I still have faith Nexon will release this as a great class. With an unnerfed ultimate AND a good single target DPS. Who knows what'll happen to the class when it gets to GMS? It's still in KMST, a TEST server, for a reason. I also think that worrying about it won't change a thing since it is up to NEXON to decide how they change a class.

Jabs aside, I do still think it'll get buffed before it makes it out of KMST.

Why not? I don't mind that they weaken the Dark Fog attack to like 500 base as long as they make it the same speed as Genesis/Blizzard/Meteor.

I'll even play the class the way it is right now. Finally, I get another mage class to toy around with. <333

3 ultimate classes weren't enough, we need a 4th.

It wouldn't really feel like a magician without one. Since everyone is used to 4th job magicians now don't the Evans deserve an ultimate?

I strongly disagree. They HAVE an insanely strong ultimate. 750 base attack at max AND 135% Amp? Bishops come close with 670 base attack Genesis, but they don't have Amp - not to mention other buffs, mastery things, and crit skills Evans have.

Plus, creating a Magician class that's not based solely around ultimates would be a good thing. We get so much hate right now for those skills that having a Mage good at single target DPS, party skills, and a decent mobber for training purposes would completely revolutionize the playing field. I think many would agree when I say I'd love to see a Magician class that mobs well with a combination of fast skills, can contribute unique and useful buffs to parties, has 1+ single target skills with DPS that makes them worthwhile at bosses, and has an amazingly powerful ultimate to use for occasional mobbing purposes (like HT). To be quite honest, Dark Fog as it is now is the PERFECT boss mob skill for HT, PB, and other high-end bosses that spawn occasional swarms of mobs.

In the end? Keep Dark Fog as is, speed up their skills, increase the base attack of single targets to get them a tad stronger, and make sure later skills don't replace current ones. Then you've got yourself a very well-rounded, useful Magician class.

The only thing i disagree with is keeping dark fog as is. At the very least, a 1 minute cooldown is ridiculously long. In this kind of game, anything over a 30 second cooldown for an attacking skill is pretty much useless. In this way, dark fog should be improved. The base attack is fine, really. In the promo video the character hit near 100k per mob on neutral (though i don't think fog has an element anyway; if it was on a monster weak to fog if it had an element then evans would hit 199,999 on 15 mobs every cast).

Dark fog being a powerful skill doesn't change the fact however, that even though they are strong bossers, they do not have the skills necessary to compete with even weapon classes when training. At a place like O4, it seems the strategy to train there would be to rush (slowly), stun/freeze, and then pound away. Even so, their power is not nearly enough to kill faster than weapon classes who in GMS can 2-3hko at high enough levels. If dark fog was available, the cooldown would make it so their kill speed would still not compete. If the cooldown was lowered to 20 seconds however, O4 would be ridiculous for them. However considering the speed and range of rush, this slows training much more than necessary.

At the moment mediocre 1v1 DPS compared to even medium powered classes (buccs, shads) does not mean they have to suffer in training speed. I would be satisfied if they however had a boost in rushing speed and range, removed blaze's chain lightning effect, and increased blaze's range to that of energy orb (range as in the bouncing between mobs, which is ridiculously huge).
