IllegallySane Wrote:How so? With all the mesos disappearing from the economy by buying them from NPC shops, there would be less mesos circulating the economy. Yes there's less stuff to spend the mesos on since there wouldn't be people selling scrolls and/or mastery books anymore, but there is still the fact there would be overall less mesos in the economy. Inflation is not that likely; prices of all other items would either remain stable or even deflate if enough mesos get taken out of the game with the NPC scrolls/book shops.
Alright, let's look at Shadow Shifter 20 in Broa. It's around 100 mil. Is the skillbook going to be priced accordingly? If it's priced less, then there's more mesos for shadowers and night lords to spend. If it's priced more, less people will play those two classes and will have more mesos to spend playing characters with cheaper mastery books.

I have no idea where you're going with this. If you want to make yourself clear, make yourself clear or don't say anything.

So what if there's mesos remaining? The point isn't to get rid of every single meso in the game, it's to lower the supply. Instead of the money going to another person and only a very, very, very small percentage deleted from the game, all of the money will be deleted from the game. Over time, that would drastically reduce the supply of mesos in the game.
No one said there has to be absolutely zero mesos in the game for a meso sink idea to work. |:

That's one example that I'm familiar with. I highly doubt Shadow Shifter 20 is the only expensive book. This could have a bigger effect of basically deciding what class you play based on how many mesos you have.

ShiKage Wrote:I like Stereo's idea. Having the prices fluxuate every day would be nice, but that would be a lot of work. Maybe every server check/channel maintenance, they could change the prices.
Also, a good idea with the scroll NPC would be to make the items in very limited quantity, say 50 scrolls per item ID every 12 hours or more, to make them not TOO easy to get, but kind of like how the free market is now anyway.
Remember, the point of this is more to give the Chinese hackers absolutely nothing to make money on, rather than giving merchants something to do. If you're only playing the game to buy and sell items in the free market, that's not really playing, is it? ;X Sure, I get it's nice to make money, but that's not really the point of the game.
who are you to say what's fun? I hate leveling and I love having my collection of items. so merchanting is alot of the gameplay for me. I spend more time doing that then anything else. but I do agree the economy has gone far out of hand. back in the day 2b lasted a while, I've gone through 15-20b in the last week alone and my char isn't "Godly" or anything. 15-20b! that is 10x the max amount of mesos a character is supposed to have. 3 years ago 2b was ALOT it really was and I'd know because i've been playing since 1 week before broa was released ( a week after I joined broa was released but i dunno what that exact date it ) and since then I've always wanted certain items so my only option was to merchant.
SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE! but what is causing all this inflation I do not know.
potential system is partially responsible because of the sheer amount of money people have to put in to get 1 perfect item, because face it, if you're item isn't shining yellow with 3 lines unique and you bought it from a person who sells high priced items often then it is infact a leftover, it wasn't even considered good enough to keep. meaning more money went into the game. the cost of certain things MUST rise however at the same time the poor players and those of us without any way to get NX ( like moi ) are being crushed by already high prices on everything. let's face it , if you're unfunded then you have to do everything way later and some things are just off limits.
first off changing potion costs won't do squat, if your rich you don't even look at how much they cost and if you're not then it's a problem.
as for mastery books, I understand this is how alot of players make their money however putting these in a vendor won't effect GMS at all, the rich players, I mean the really rich ones .. the ones that make even me look poor as dirt , don't level up and to them these books are just a slight inconvenience they owl them and buy a dozen of them , 150m-300m is nothing. it's potion costs for a new character (apple training) they'll spend 2b a month on aesthetics.
putting scrolls in a vendor might cause inflation. sure it's easier to scroll a perfect item therefore it becomes the new standard and now these perfect items cost a ton and potential becomes EVEN MORE IMPORTANT so even more money down the drain.
the problem here is that what nexon needs and what we need arn't aligned . more cubes bought,more mushie shops,more people buying nx cards to mts for equips = profit , but for us these things equal inflation.
only thing I can do and I guess the rest of us will be able to do is just adjust to the changes in the market and keep up.

That's why things would have to be balanced, rather than strictly based on prices in the free market. Some things are impossible to find, so they're billions, when they're skills like "Dark Spirit Up" (The weapon attack increasing Beholder passive) that shouldn't even be higher than 100m.

octopusprime Wrote:Yeah and put the guild style merchanting on auto-pilot. To any affluent group of people who have a damn clue or ounce of foresight, this is free money unless scrolls bought are untradeable. There needs to be limits on how many one can buy for this to work at all that or the untradeable solution which is also terrible.
And explain to me why the scrolls SHOULDN'T be untradeable. How is it a terrible idea? According to ShiKage's original suggestion, scrolls are completely gone from the drop tables (To prevent the hackers from just continuing what they are doing). If the entire point of this Scroll NPC is to replace the entire market's scrolls, then there's absolutely no reason NOT to make them untradeable. If you want to give someone a scroll, give them the cash to buy it. If you want to use them yourself, buy as many as you want, it doesn't matter, because you can't reverse them back into the market.
You can be an ass and buy a ton to sky rocket the price, but that doesn't really do anything for you at all. Instead, you'll have a plethora of scrolls you have nothing to use on, and you're just wasting your own money. Eventually, this WILL result in the meso count being significantly lower. NPC bought items go into a black hole of mesos that you never see again. As a result, the count goes down over time. Eventually, if people really don't like the idea, the developers can simply switch back to the original system. Yeah, it's possible that the hackers will eventually do the same thing again, but it took them years to get the market to become such a crap hole in the first place, and it's quite possible it won't happen a second time. If nothing else, the developers can use the time to create a vac-prevention system, and put those Chinese hackers on the same level as the rest of us, at which point it wouldn't matter what they do.

You know, chinese hackers farm mesos too, even if you remove the skillbooks and scrolls, more hackers will appear since part of their ''income'' is taken off.

Here's a silly idea.
Have scrolls and Mastery Books be marked with "One of a Kind." It'd sure would deter hoarding to some extent, right? xd
And as for meso sinks... a lottery system. Maybe?

You mean you want to scroll items by plopping down 1 scroll, scronge through your storage/ask your friends/run through FM, just to scroll the next slot?

That's a terrible idea simply because you need 7+ Scrolls to scroll any item, AND Mastery Books can fail, causing you to need more than one book at a time.

Farming meso makes no impact at all when more than what is being generated is being taken out of the economy through this system.
The system itself also cannot create inflation on anything because taking meso out of the economy ALWAYS equals deflation; and god knows both JMS and GMS needs that right now.

Look at how many computers bro.
And how many legit computers are connected to MS daily? How many of those people have characters that need scrolls and mastery books?
A hell of a lot more than the amount of botters/hackers. Chinese hackers aren't even an issue for GMS, but this system would solve a lot more than scroll/book availability.

So is the amount of active users. Botters and hackers do not make enough of a difference to tip the meso generation scale in their favor in this scenario.

Well, I haven't read through the entire topic just yet, so I may or may not edit this post later.
I can't "completely" agree with the idea of all mastery books and scrolls being available through NPCs, but I do think that they could do something rather interesting with the idea. Perhaps having various NPCs that "can" sell any of the mastery books and scrolls, but don't always have them in stock, and have the individual NPC's stock reset at a random time of each day. It could even be taken a step further and have the prices fluctuate based on the amount of mesos that have been spent on the mastery books/scrolls the previous day or even make it so the more mesos spent on the NPCs' items the more likely they are to have better scrolls and books.
I don't think they should pull the items off of the drop list though, that would just tick people off, but maybe change their drop rates a bit or make the scrolls sold by the NPCs have different types of affects (like the spiked shoes and warm cape scrolls).

1 Hacker per map per channel. 24/7. That's all it takes to make it unplayable.
And this is a single meso selling company.

This.
How will legits make enough meso to buy the scrolls and books they need?
Whatever legits can do, a botting hacker can do faster. Yes, even quests, at least at the level we currently have.
Furthermore, if the total amount of meso in the economy drops, the value of botting for pure meso drops and npc'able potions and etc's goes up accordingly.
No, the solution is much harder.
Stop hacking.
How?
Make the server stop believing every piece of bs the client throws at it.
- No, this map does not have warp points, you cannot get from here to there so fast;
- No, these mobs do not spontaneously fly from their spawn points to a single platform;
- No, this skill does not have that kind of range;
- No, a human being cannot type that fast;
- No, you do not have that item in your inventory;
- No, just no. And banned for hacking.
Yeah, that means buffing up the servers a lot. Checking takes processing power. But it has to be done or we will never be rid of these hacks. Would you rather patch a flat every other weekend (and risk a deadly blow-out at any time), or just replace your shitty tires already?
