BannedStory Shutdown

How about we host it? We already are hated, might as well keep it really under wraps so Nexon KR can't find it. Also, I liked that program, but it wasn't updated enough when I still played Maple.

Unfortunately, Ion can't "officially" share anything he had. The only way we can host something for ourselves is to recreate something like it.

If he was tried based on south korean copyright law, he would be guilty since he didn't have permission from nexon korea and they don't have a 'fair use' clause. In the U.S., he would be protected by fair use if he can prove he's a nonprofit that had no effect on how much nexon made since bannedstory was started. He probably doesn't have the money/time to fight it out with nexon so there's nothing he can do besides close it down.

No he wouldn't. BannedStory doesn't fall into fair use based on the factors laid out by the US Copyright Law.

Not as flexible as BannedStory & may take a little longer to load, but it has a ton of stuff we don't have yet & is updated regularly.

Meaning it doesn't have anything other than the default standing pose(that I can find), so it's useless for editing into the custom poses that I use. ):

A petition was opened on basilmarket and I saw that it had an impressive amount of signatures. Very interesting how mad people are since now they're limited in making MMVs/Anything Maple related. It's funny because now a majority of people, if any, aren't going to do this contest anymore.

I'd be curious to see if other sites of similar usage (mainly Sleepywood's MapleMe) gets shut down as well. As some have mentioned, basil has extractions as well (though I've never visited their site for that), and they've certainly never gotten in trouble for it. Additionally, it seems as if they have support from Nexon (with nx for contests, the Q&A, etc.).

Conspiracy theorist wouldn't be surprised if Sleepywood's version of bannedstory faces no C&D, as part of me is thinking this is part of Nexon working with SW to monopolize maple simulators to get more traffic there.

Please understand a violation of copywrite and trademark is a highly legal offense. While players and community members view things in shades of grey, lawyers sometimes do not. They are simply doing their jobs. You say they aren't taking down hack sites or ps but what you don't know is probably they have sent C&D and those sites have done nothing about it. I applaud the admin of BannedStory for complying with the C&D but hopefully we can fix the situation that has been presented before us. More to come later.

By the looks of it, it was a decision made by Nexon Korea themselves.

if you read the C&D on maplesimulator.com, it's clear that this was a Nexon Korea thing, and not Nexon AM

You're implying that other people don't have the power of suggestion. Such as, Nexon AM suggesting the removal of it since they originally bypassed the copyright claims by claiming that it's property of other versions. Much like Fiel did back then with extractions.

Reread what -Hime- said on the forums and it's pretty obvious Nexon AM didn't have anything to do with it this time.

I knew Nexon Korea was the one who sent him the C&D. I didn't know if Nexon America was the one who urged it, which was what I originally thought. Especially since Nexon America was the one who prohibited any GMS exclusive content to be used on Banned Story.

The logic for the entire bolded part doesn't make sense to me. "I applaud the admin of bannedstory for complying with the C&D"? He obviously didn't have a choice. Fighting it would be stupid as hell and he most likely can't afford a legal battle with a multi-million dollar company. Applauding him for bending over for them just seems like a big "f'uck you".

Hmm...Well I'm not holding my breath on any hopes any action will be taken by Nxeon,
though; this is seriously going to crimpple comic makers alike in the mean time. (dam it >:| )
