UMD discs? One analog stick? Five hours of battery life? $25 memory sticks that hold two or three games? A rather disappointing library of games to begin with? That's pretty lame, brah.
A flash cart costs $15. From there, you can download any DS game, any NES/SNES/other retro games, any movie, whatever.

Most of those developers don't pump out anything worth playing anyway, so I'm not really concerned.

Whooaaaaa Well, in the way that they would make it (assuming I'm looking at how this would function in the correct way), it would have 4 screens, which is 2 more than normal (obviously).

Sorry, but no omni, just NO. the psp IS WAAAY better then the DS or DSI. and I'd know. I got em both. ( 3 psps 2 dss )
the only games that are REALLY REALLY good for the DS are the megamans, castlevanias and Final Fantasy A2.
the rest of the games arn't all that great. and WHO THE HELL OVER THE AGE OF 10 plays POKEMON!? seriously.
on the other hand. PSP has - Final Fantasy ( many of them. all of them are great imo ) , Castlevania , God Of War , Metal Gear Solid , Phantasy Star , Monster Hunter , Marvel Super Hero Squad , Ape Escape , Armored Core , Naruto fighting games ( don't like naruto but the game is good ) , Dynasty Warriors , Echochrome , Fate Stay Night , Ghost in the shell , Guilty Gear , Kingdom Hearts , Megaman , Need for speed and many other games.
point is, the DS has many titles but they look alot worse and the gameplay tends to be lacking since the PSP has a stronger processor.

You press a button on it, and get surrounded by screens that all focus on relaying 1 image to your eyes for 3D!

I never said DS was better, in fact, I didn't even replied to most of the posts in this thread because I'm too lazy to read them all. I knew about PSP having better games though, that's always been a solid-factor. As for the processor thing, that was true, I forgot about that.. I was actually leaning towards PSP if you read my posts more carefully.
EDIT ; I asked the same thing in a different forum about PSP vs DS, unlike on SP, surprisingly, people leaned for PSP. While a smaller few leaned towards DS.

Gameboy has become GameMan. Nintendo DS refers to this by the "DS." DS stands for plantain size, which the game boy now has, since it is now an adult.

Around half of SouthPerry, for starters. There are Several websites dedicated solely to Pokemon. A majority of the people on them are teenagers.

Don't take the bait. That's the easiest point in the post to lose it at. It's a nice attempt, almost had me too.

I don't get mad, if that's what you're referring to.
I want to see a prototype of what this "3DS" looks like.

I'm still wondering how they are going to make it 3D without the 3D glasses. Hopefully not a smaller fail virtual boy.
But hey, they had the powerglove idea from a long time ago which failed iirc and now today there's the Wii.
What can we expect?

Things that make me like the PSP instead of the DS.
- Backwards compatibility.
You can play PSX games in the PSP legally. Most don't even need to be ported. If you have a legal copy of a PS game you can convert it to the PBP format and play it normally in the PSP.
- Great graphics, great games, great concepts.
Although the PSP hasn't a touch screen, which allows to make some games ridiculously innovative, the PSP has games that are pure revolution in gaming experience. Naming LocoRoco, Patapon, Invizimals and Beats, just for naming a few. I'm not a guy looking for eyecandy in a game only, but damn right some awesome games come with awesome graphics, such as God of War, Monster Hunter series, Crisis Core: FFVII, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, the new Tenchu game, Soul Calibur, and a pretty good roster.
I gotta admit, though, that the DS wins in the innovative area, as I said before, because of three factors. The DS is more limited hardware-wise, so the developers need to take the best out of it; developing games is easier for the DS, thus cheaper; most games can be developed in a 3-6 months span. These factors make the DS have a huge game library.
- Quality
This is the low point of the PSP. Taking the three factors that make the DS huge, and applying them to the PSP is a problem. Some games take so much time to develop, and so much effort that sometimes they get released without the promised quality and being 100 mb~300 mb games that don't have really a lot to offer. Those are the ones getting bad reviews and giving the PSP a bad name.
- Emulators and Homebrews.
Whoever says this isn't a great plus is a big f'uckface. I can play games from any system up to the N64-GBA. There's even a DS emulator, but it's in alpha stage and they are having problems with the touchscreen. Hell I can even play Cave Story on my PSP.

By the way, update on how the 3DS works.
Quote:[UPDATE: More reports and analysis have emerged regarding the Nintendo 3DS since its announcement last night.
Japanese reports from the Nikkei business publication and Asahi (via Engadget) said the 3DS will achieve naked eye 3D by using a parallax barrier technique from electronics manufacturer Sharp. Some cell phones in Japan already use the technology.
The 3DS screen, according to Nikkei, would have screens smaller than four inches diagonally, making it smaller than the DSi LL, which has a 4.2 inch screen. Other features may include vibration and control sticks, but none of this has been confirmed by Nintendo.
Analyst Colin Sebastian with Lazard Capital Markets said Tuesday that he expects the 3DS to garner wide support from game publishers. "Given the significant popularity of Nintendo handhelds, its dominant position in the market, and track-record for successful innovation, we expect that game publishers including [Activision, Electronic Arts, and THQ]will back the platform with meaningful development resources," the analyst said.
"We also believe that a new DS will generate increasing unit sales for Nintendo driven by the new platform," he wrote. The Nintendo DS line of hardware has sold over 125 million units worldwide.
Sebastian also said the fact that the 3DS won't require 3D glasses opens up the handheld to the mass market. "If Nintendo is able to achieve a realistic 3D experience without the need for glasses, we believe 3DS could have broad appeal, and spark a new cycle of innovation within the industry," he said.
Sebastian added that he believes "the 3DS could help reduce the competitive threat from smartphones."]
