I Give You, The PS3 Slim!
#41
I'd only get a PS3 for the remake of Tales of Vesperia, but that's NOT enough of a reason for me to want one. I like Sony products, but I'd prefer their PSP over their platform consoles ANY day, because they always make too many models, where as portables are always good, on the go or at home.

Sn1perJohnE Wrote:I came when i read the PS3 Slim news, seriously.

Now, about dual release games looking better on the 360 and not the PS3...They are freaking LAZY PROGRAMMERS!!!!! The Ghostbusters "snaffue" was obvioulsy due to the laziness of porting the game from the 360 version to the PS3 version, because it is still easier to start out on the 360 and bring it over to the PS3. All games that were made on the PS3 first and then ported to the 360 looked better on the ps3 than the 360, because it was MADE for the PS3, and vice versa when made on the 360 first.

This wasn't the case. Ghostbusters wasn't ported. Terminal Reality developed both games simultaneously. Alos, TR boasted about how good all their "in-house" PS3 development was godly compared to others. If you ask me, they didn't do a very good job of showing that off.

Zalfor Wrote:Second, I'd like to point out two nice features of the PS3. Playstation Home and the Blu-Ray player. Playstation Home is a free online service for the PS3 compared to Microsoft's Xbox Live subscriber, and while there's very few available games to play on the Home network(1.3 patch is supposed to support ALL PS3 games), I hope it grows to something to rival that of Live. Live is an extremely useful online service and is probably used more often by gamers than the current state of PC games. But you gotta think here:The Xbox 360 is pretty much an extremely cheap computer. And a pretty darn good one at that.

The Blu-Ray player really shines for Sony as Microsoft had it's folly with the HD-DVD disaster. Most Blu-Ray players at this moment are in the price range of $150-$300 by themselves, which make the Sony a very attractive offering. But that only applies to people who don't rip all their movies off the internet/just buy regular DVD and play them on the Xbox 360 lol.

In my opinion, Playstation Home is a gimmicky version of Second Life that has absolutely no practical use outside of playing it for 15 minutes. Also, subscribing to Xbox Live for 13 Cents and day for a year is extremely cheap. The Xbox 360 will always offer a better online experience because when Sony is trying to catch up, Microsoft pumps something that much better out. Sony is just getting another Firmware revision (3.0) with a few new features in the coming weeks. This fall the Xbox is getting Facebook, Last.fm and Twitter. Again, pushing the boundaries between home entertainment from just a Game Console to a Home Media Hub in your living you.

I completely agree on the Blu-Ray thing though. Sony does have an enticing offer for their PS3, or Slim at $300 as a Game Console and a Blu-Ray player. But, this is also why Sony has lost so much this generation. Personally, I do not agree. This generation is not ready for Blu-Ray. As long as we still can make amazing games without it, for example on the Xbox's end, then it's just a waste of technology right now. Again, look at Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox and PS3. Xbox has the better graphics which isn't an excuse because the PS3 has Blu-ray. What's the point of having technology if they're not going to use it.

I agree PSHome was/is a failure.

They don't fully know HOW to use the PS3's potential yet, or I'd expect we'd have amazing games out...maybe God of War 3 is the first of those?

Had terminal reality even worked on another PS3 game before Ghostbusters? Cause normally, first gen developments (first time making a game for a console) dont have the same polish as a 360 version. I know there are plenty of work arounds that they could have sought after to make the graphics equal to the 360 version.

Home...well, its meh, I tried it, its OK, theres potential, but they dont seem to really want to follow threw it much. If they were able to have a portable version out on the PSP, I could see it being used more, as well as making it more of what they were first showing it as. Right now, it can seem kinda cramped.

I don't get the excuse that PS3 doesn't have a game library.

xbox 360 sucks for several reasons
 • It's like a 2x exp coupon, you need to buy one every 90 days.
 • Project natal sucks, i dont want to be hopping around like a jackass in my room
 • OOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhh halo 3, gears of war and fable 2. Those games are overhyped as f-u-c-k
 • Disc-tray. ROFL
 • No blu-ray.
Ps3 rules for several reasons
 • Great exclusives which came out/coming out soon
Infamous, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Gran turisimo 5, God of war 3, Killzone 2, Metal gear solid 4 and more
 • Games that aren't exclusive Look great on both consoles, but games that are exclusive on the ps3 look about 3 times better on the PS3. That's because the ps3 versions of the non-exclusive games need to be cut down to fit both consoles.
Blu-ray player.
 • Playstation 3 plays on True FullHD 1080p, While the xbox 360 is limited to720p
 • The price is now 300$, While the arcade version of the xbox is 200$, Personally, I would pay a 100$ more for a superior more advanced console than a 90 day console that doesn't even have a hard drive (LOL)

Now, after stating all these facts, I can say that I dont own either consoles, So im not even biased. these are all pineappleing facts, if you bough an xbox and regret it, don't say the ps3 doesnt have a wide game library, because its pineappleing gigantic. lol

If we're going to talk about game libraries/life of a system, please don't be so cynical about it, or else you'll start a flame war. We want to keep this civilized.

Now, the facts you tried to represent are:

A)The Red Ring Of death issue the Xbox 360 is plagued with. The PS3 is also afflicted with similar problems, but they are less common. Maybe you should think to yourself:I'm buying something that will probably burn down my house with the electricity it uses, hell, I can cook an egg on this thing. There will always be problems with any system you buy, it's just how it is.

B)That's your opinion. People buy the Wii just to jump around like jackasses. And Nintendo is far richer than you.

C)Yes. Overhyped. But nice graphics. And they're fairly well supported.

D)ROFLMAOIDON'TCARE.

E)The Blu-Ray is just a dvd with a security system and some nice upscaling features. Big whoop. If HD-DVD had won the battle, then everyone would be buying Xbox 360's wouldn't they.

F)Those games are great, but they all have a folly:Only two of them aren't a sequel. Xbox 360 gave birth to more new games than the PS3 has.

G)No comment.

H)Buy an Elite for god's sake. Only idiots buy the Arcade.

And as for "Gigantic library", according to Wiki:There are currently 557 (exclusive: 159; non exclusive: 395; console exclusive: 9) compared to Xbox 360's:There are currently 709 (exclusive: 116; multiplatform: 516; console exclusive: 77). Notice the "console exclusive" category. of the 159 exclusive's the PS3 has, only 9 of them are actually on the PS3 compared to Xbox's 77/116.

Research always win.

BUTTHURT SONYPHONY INCOMING. In comparison to the Xbox and Wii, the PS3 has a small library of exclusive games. In comparison to the Xbox, the PS3 has a very small online community. In comparison to the Wii, the PS3 caters to a more "exclusive" gamers rather than family or friends. The Wii and 360 have revolutionized console gaming; online gaming and motion-sensor controls are better than anything your brick of a console can provide for it's very, very small fanboy-only audience. The PS3 Slim will NOT save Sony. It's impossible. It will only gain temporary momentum for the console, and sales will slide back down to nothing as they are now. Remember the last time a console was in this position? It was the Gamecube. Hell they lowered the price to $99. What did it do? It improved sales by 300%.. .for a few weeks. That's it.

The Nintendo Wii and motion controls have won this generation, and will continue to win until the end of this generation. Sony will need a totally new console to beat Nintendo.

What will be interesting to see is what happens when xbox is at it limits. It was only really designed with a 5 year life span (as I recall reading somewhere) and the ps3 was designed with a 10 year span. Xbox is nearly at the limit of the potential game developers can push it, whereas the ps3 has barely scratched the surface. So its what xbox do next that will make things interesting.
If Sony made their online interactions better (cmon, a freaking lobby in GH would make it more appealing to play online), more people would consider the ps3.

None of Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo need "saving", since Nintendo's the only video game-only company, Sony and Microsoft can support themselves other ways. There's a huge difference from the GC to the PS3. The PS3 doesn't suck ass like the GameCube did. Even Nintendo fans will agree it sucked.

Sony doesn't need a new console to crush them, they need people to fully capitalize on the PS3's capabilities.

Funnily enough, the online GH menus look the same on 360 and PS3...and I fail connecting to as many matches on the 360 as I do on the PS3.

Too late. It shouldn't take four years for a console to reach it's potential. The GC can most definitely be compared to the PS3; like you said, the GC was a pile of shi't that sold horribly, kind of like some other game console today.

A lot of you guys are going OHLOLNOEXCLUSIVES.

Most of you saying that have a 360, right?

That's the thing. I don't. About half of the games I want for the PS3 are exclusive, but the other half are multi-platform. So I don't really care if they're not exclusive, as long as the ones I want are on the PS3.

And the number of total games doesn't matter. The number of games I'd actually buy/play does. And that number is actually higher for the PS3.

that poll doesnt exactly fall in favor of "no on slim", or no on PS3.

30.47% straight out dont have a PS3.

Another 32.09% already own a PS3, and will not upgrade (or switch) to the Slim.

Now, there has already been a patent filed for CELL based emulation of the Emotion chip (new patent, not the failed attempt), so that 19.99% is most likely gonna buy.

3.24% will go just for the Blu-Ray (most consoles make money off of software).

13.02% will probably buy.

And 1.3% already has one reserved to buy.

So thats 37.55% that will either buy, or most likely buy, taking the majority of that poll.

Where'd you get that number again? Also, that poll is supposed to put emphasis on how the PS3 Slim doesn't seem like it'll be selling well; not how many people own a PS3 to begin with.

Add the first 4 percentages. Thats assuming the emotion chip gets installed though.

Yes, the first 4, and i mean majority outta Buying/Might Buy, Already Own Phat, and Already Own Other.

One problem with these kinda polls is it cant fully show the true consumer thinking on it, just those who did the poll.

As for its emphasis, its kinda mixed. As we have no way of know if the top four selections voters have a PS3 Phat already, or if they have another console. When split into the three parts mentioned above, it seems it would sell decently.

With game consoles, its never the software alone or the system alone that makes it, its a driving combination of the two. The Wii has a strong console platform, but the games for it that are great (4/5+) are really far and few, leaving most people who but it just playing the Wii Sports that comes with it.

The 360 has an excellent mix of console and software, while still having a decent price for it as well. But the PS3 was always hampered by its high price, even when it was at its last cheapest of 400 bucks, you were lacking on getting people to buy it. On the software side, I believe i read somewhere the the majority of the games released for it scored 3/5 or better, which isnt bad, while the Wii had something like the majority of games scoring between 2/5 and 3/5, with a small chunk of 4/5 and a small handful of 5/5 games. I cant remember for the 360 if they listed anything for it tho.

This is iffy, but, it will most likely be on the PS3. Reason being it was on the PS2 for most of the games so far, and the only other console it went to with any part of it was the DS, and it still ended up being ported to the PS2. The story behind the KH games was from people at Beuna Vista being in the same building as Square Enix, and both getting together to collaborate on the game. Square has always been a big Sony supported, so it wouldnt make much sense for em to jump ship now. At any rate, if they were to go multi platform with it, it would be on the PS3 first, and get ported over like MGS4 is (or was it another game a-@ 3:30 in the morning...)

May I add that future multi-platform games are turning away from the PS3 as it costs more money to develop for such little income.

Wait wait stop the van. Sony doesn't need saving? Have you SEEN their losses this last year, and especially this quarter? If the PS3 was such a success they wouldn't have reported their first losses in 14 years. And lol, half of those Exclusives list aren't out yet, or not even confirmed for the console. Claiming KH3 to be for the PS3 is very selfish of you.

Yay Blu-Ray, because you want NEED to see every single pixel.

Ofcourse, http://www.reuters.com/article/businessN...3620090730

Nintendo has started to feel the crisis too, but for them that's just a jab in the side. Sony probably had an amputated arm.

Yes. Quoted for truth. People spout bullshit like this and yet, Nintendo is rich. Why? Because, apparently, people do like to jump around like jackasses.
