At Sony's GamesCom 2009 press conference, SCEI CEO Kaz Hirai unveiled the PlayStation 3 Slim. The new model will be available in stores starting the first week of September 2009. It is roughly 1/3 smaller and lighter than the current PS3 (and uses 1/3 less power! Gcycle!!!). The Slim will come with a 120GB hard drive. Most importantly, it will be the cheapest PS3 to date, with a price of $299 USD. The lower price will also apply to all 80GB models still available.

It's features known at this date are this:

-It's coming out Early September.
-It uses 34% less electricity.
-It is 33% smaller.
-It is 36% lighter.
-It has a 120 GB hard drive.
-It has Blu-Ray.
-Comes with a DualShock 3 and has HDMI input of up with 1080p support.
-It's $299! USD.

So, what will you do? Go and buy it? Keep/buy an older PS3? Or wait and see what problems this model has? I mean, comeon, Christmas is still 4 months away...

I'll more than likely be choosing the 3rd option. Waiting and seeing. Gotta be sure about backwards compatibility and all that.

Who cares about how it's slim, or lighter, or whatever else. I don't know anyone who moves their PS3 from their TV's shelf. Even with the price drop, I won't even consider buying one until it's at $200 (Which won't take long).

Considering getting it for Christmas... Though there's not many games I want that are for it, the ones I do are exclusive, and then there's a few that are only for 360/PS3 (or have only a crap version for Wii) that I'd pick up.

Also, LBP is getting a GOY edition, which is another little bonus...

I might actually consider getting one now, but I'll probably just wait until after Christmas and/or another price drop. I'm not in any rush to get one, there's seriously only a few games that I want to play on it anyway.

It's about time. I saw the like 7 articles on Kotaku about it when they were first posted. I've been waiting for this. Gives me a better reason to pick up a PS3 this Christmas.

-Talladega Nights
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Superbad
-Twilight

It's the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market. You'd have to be dumb to not want one.
