Opeth Wrote:Bingo. Level 200 means nothing anymore. There are tons of things that matter in this game but it's all based on what you want. Whether someone out-levels you because the game was easier due to updates or not shouldn't matter a damn bit if you've got your head in the right place. You shouldn't be playing it as a competition. It's NOT a competition. It's a game, it can be a test of your endurance and skill, but it's definitely not a competition. And if you feel like you're not being challenged enough to make it enjoyable for you, then do something about it. Stop using pots. Stop whining about what other people are doing if they're doing it themselves (and by this I mean feel free to whine about leechers because there's no merit in leaving a game running and going afk.)

Man, get off my case. I play in Scania, FFS. You two have no idea how much E-wang gets brandished in this god forsaken server. There's never any bosses, and if you do find a boss odds are you'll get KSed. So in essence yes, playing in Scania IS a competition and no I'm not leaving because I've spent too much time here and everyone I know is here.

Isn't the competition just moving slightly faster and with less effort? Everyone has the same rate reduced. It's not like older players get less exp. If anything, the overleveled arseholes will hit lv 200, and won't be able to get stronger, meaning you'll catch up faster, and you'll stand a better chance at bosses.

An achievement should be about personal gratification, and in knowing that you made it that far under those conditions should be more than enough for anyone. It shouldn't be about making you feel like you're better than anyone else, 'cause you're not. Especially in a case like Maple Story where it's entirely dependent on the time you're willing to give and not your level of skill. For people who leveled to 192 because they saw that as an achievement, they wanted to be recognized about it. All people want to be recognized and respected by what they feel they master, and this is no special case. If you're got an A++ and worked really hard in order to gain it, you'd be quite upset if noone really cared. Say you showed it to your mom, and she didn't care or didn't react the way you were hoping her to react, then that achievement of gaining that A++ feels way lower than if she had praised you. Same applies for all things.

Those same "overleveled arseholes" will continue to multiply in number the longer this stupid reduced EXP rate event goes on. Eventually it'll get so bad Scania will implode in on itself and we'll all die. They'll either be ignored or get the pat on the back that they desire, but this is very narcissistic and not everyone is this way. Reading opeth's last post I empathise with his plea a little more because his isn't just about wanting to be recognised but to be able to do things that everyone should be able to do. Also, a parent ignoring your paper will (or should, really) have a lot more profound of an impact than not getting the credit you desire from a video game. I know first hand that it hurts to get shut down when you've worked hard on something in the game (I blew up like a baby when someone outdid me in the monster book competition) but it's not something worth dwelling on or caring about like your parent not caring would be. Credit from strangers is far less important than credit from someone who's supposed to care about and encourage you.

Not all people want credit from others for their accomplishments. It's nice, but believe it or not many people *gasp* find a sense of self-satisfaction at accomplishing a personal goal with some kind of achievement like Lv. 200, at which point anything extra is just icing on the cake. You don't HAVE to do things simply for the applause and adoration of others; do something for yourself for once.
That's why I'm still going for 200. My goal is to be in the Top 50 of my server, Top 500 overall, and just to be able to quit the game saying I reached the maximum level. If people want to applaud for it, I would humbly thank them and be even more pleased with the accomplishment, but it's not like the only thing I'm going for is impressing others. Life can be quite depressing if you only do things to earn the respect or admiration of others. Do something because YOU want it, not because of the potential fame attached.

I hope it stays. And I think it probably will. Ppl will peach a LOT about it if goes back to normal lol.
It's easier to get more characters to a decent lvl now. And in the future it will get easier again. Problably 3x exp cards or something.
2009-07-26, 09:38 PM
Well, I do care about my rank, and I do prefer when there are less 4th jobbers walking around. I don't level because I want others to adore me. I feel good knowing that through effort and persistence I've managed to outlevel all but about 200 other Pirates, even though I'm severely disadvantaged by a busy schedule and no access to resources like an HS mule, a 4th job magician to leech off of, and limited 2x cards. That's my motivation.
The main reason I would like the curve to go back to normal, though, is that I prefer the game to exist in the form it's supposed to exist in. I don't want GMS to throw a bunch of rule changes our way when it's perfectly fine in its original form. People didn't complain that they needed an exp curve to level until we got one. Levelling is supposed to be open-ended in MapleStory. You can get to a level you're satisfied with, but there's always more room to improve. Level 200 is only for the most dedicated.
i cant see them giving us cygnus + curve... why rush cygnus and let people blaze to 120 in two weeks (if even that). but nexon seems to be milking maple for all its worth lately, so i wouldn't be surprised if it stays. they really don't seem to care anymore about keeping any part of the game intact.
the curve should have ended as originally planned, now they've just made it so everyone will whine and peach to the 10th degree if its taken away. the funny thing is the loudest peaching will come from leechers. there's hardly anything left in this game thats "challenging". though i do understand that sitting in leafre and spamming for 2 hours that your buying skele leech could count as training. you can buy your way to almost everything. im sorry but getting to 200 should stay somewhat of a challenge, its basically the last thing left in the game that is. i now see people laughing at bishops who turn 200 because of what "easy mode" it is. people leeching at 180-190+ because its easier. do players really want it like this? do you want getting to 200 to mean nothing like everything else in this game? im sorry if you dont have the time or will to play to get to 200, but join the club. my mage was made at official open and im only 184. getting to 200 shouldn't be a guarantee, sadly that's where nexon seems to be taking it for the sake of profit.

Mozart played the piano. He was amazing when he did it as a 6 year old, but when he played the same piece 18 years later, noone really "cared". Why is that? Because playing that song at the age of 24 wasn't as amazing as playing it at the age of 6. That's what I'm trying to say. The achievement hasn't diminished, you're correct in that. However, if someone asks you what level you were at MapleStory or something like that, and you say 192 one year ago, people would go "Wow man, that's really amazing! Holyyyy crap". Nowadays, they'll not say that. They'll be like "oh, okay. That's pretty decent, isn't it?". That's what I meant. The value of being 192 has gone from high to zero, null, nada, nix. Nevertheless, people above 190 do care about their ranks and the admiration they get from noobies. Why would the else go through leveling? It's not like they're going HNNNNNNNNGGGG AHHH THEY DON'T APPRECIATE ME ANYMORE, I FUCKING FAIL MAN, that's quite the insane if you're doing that. However, you notice that your achie- hmm, level is worth nothing now, and it does affect you.

I actually knew a 19X who had an attitude like that and deleted her character because of it after she lost some of her equips . That's part of the reason I outright don't care, since I don't want the stress to drive me nuts. That and I've never really cared since I knew I was too slow to ever be considered high level regardless. The fact that I'm a quest king is more based off of me just being a completionist in every game I try and play than looking for respect in a certain niche.Granted, at the same time, I'm trying to be the first person in GMS with a complete level 110 archer set because of the difficulty at this time to achieve, so yet again I find myself as a hypocrite in this conversation. In this sort of situation though, everyone becomes a hypocrite. We all get jealous, yet at the same time wouldn't be willing to limit ourselves to how things were when we started. IE, I wouldn't stick to Vic and Vic only excluding the dungeon to train these days because it would be insane unless you have a different personal goal, much like the case with islanders. That's actually a good idea, if you really don't want a difference in the opportunities and care about ranks, go make an islander.

Everyone has their own reasons to do what they do, and it's not always about attention or admiration. It could be to prove to themselves that they could. It could be to finish what they started. It could be to get the mount! I know I was completely driven to 70 by the idea of getting my hog mount. Not everyone cares what else other people think of what they do or how they do it. Proof of this is in the astounding number of leechers in game currently, they just want to be there, to play with the skills, whatever it is. And even more-so, if everyone else is catching up to your hard work because the game is universally easier, then I would see that as a reason to work harder to stay ahead rather than get discouraged, if being ahead is what matters to you. Quote: I'm not sure what you're trying to prove with this but I would say absolutely it is. If you have a dickhead dad who tells you you're worthless every day looks at something you've done and says "wow, this is really good. This is great... I've never been more proud." That is something that would stay with you forever. edit: wait, maybe I read your spoiler quote wrong. I have no idea what you're trying to say at all.

If Maplestory is out for 10 years it wouldn't be anything to have 2 or 3 level 200's, where right now that would be a really big deal. As time goes on more people have the opportunity to do what you did, and they'll have learned from your mistakes and those of others so they'll naturally have an easier time. As far as I'm concerned this is like the old coot up the street crying how he's been living here for 50 years and people should respect him for it. We all live here now, it's a town and granted when he moved here it was out in the middle of the woods, but you know it's never gonna be woods again so he needs to shut up and deal with it.

I can only imagine what will happen to you guys if another area in masteria comes out that does the same thing to 4th job training that CWK did to 3rd job training. "No more masteria! Quit making it so easy!"
Exp curve is amazing. I don't care about other people. 136 was a pipe dream for me before i made my bucc and seriously leveled. Now even 150 is seriously not beyond my reach. Even before the exp curve got here i was happily grinding away at a level where leveling wasn't really that hard. Now at 13x i would have killed myself because of how hard i'd be.
There's a big difference between a gradual release of content making level 200 more achievable and "hey guys have permanent 1.25x!" Yeah, I remember when 3rd job was difficult to reach and when that was considered a big achievement, and I certainly don't want to go back to grinding at 8%/hr at zombies in 7x, but this just seems sloppy. Everything becoming easier isn't always a good thing. Over time, more people are going to make it to the same level of play for less effort, but it's more acceptable when that comes about as a result of a better understanding of the game along with new content to fill previous voids rather than artificially throwing us more damage or more exp.
Yeah, eventually we're probably going to reach a point where a casual player can hit 4th job within a year and your average grinder will be able to make it to 16x or higher. But this is a stupid way to achieve it. ^More Masteria maps that give EXP that's competitive or better than Skeles and TT would be pretty cool with me. |
