% Total Damage and % ATT
#21
hadriel Wrote:Talking strictly about % Total DMG lines, the moment you have more nett % DMG than % ATT, which by most cases it's almost always the case. But understand that per LINE of potential, you get more from % Boss than what a line of % ATT provides until you hit a breakpoint.

Basically, just get whatever gives you the largest fractional change.

let me intercede here a bit though, don't just get whatever gives you the best fractional change, cubes are expensive and in some cases it's not worth it, say you have 35% total damage...

getting 5% more TD would mean you now deal 40% damage.
getting 5% more attk means you deal 1.05*1.35=41.75% damage.

i wouldn't say that 1.75% more damage is worth spending a minimum of 1.2k nx.

You have a good point, and I couldn't have said much about it because I don't use NX and it lies outside most of my considerations. For super-heavy NX-using, DPS-crazy people, I usually suggest cubing if the nett change in DPS is 3%, because that's where their margins tend to lie. For average users it's really more like cubing for an extra line, or cubing a fresh equipment, in which case the DPS change is likely to be significantly, significantly higher, where the DPS growth potential is on the rising part of the parabola.

To actually consider the TS's question, I think you have to hit the wall first, which would usually have implied you have spent a great deal of mesoes/NX to actually have hit 3 useful lines in everything else that you could have potted; if you're just fresh-cubing stuff and you stumble onto a %DMG instead of a %ATT on top of other useful lines on the same equipment e.g. %Boss or %PDRignore, chances are you're better off cubing something else than re-rolling the same equipment.

user Wrote:Not sure if Paladin and Demon Slayer have innate %Total Damage buffs from skills other than Reinforce Hypers, but even if that is not the case, it's best to choose %ATT over %Total Damage when it's possible. However, %Damage (i.e. %Boss Damage) can easily overshadow small amounts of %ATT simply because it comes in large quantities.

Of course, it also depends on what you want to do in-game, and what item (i.e. weapon/secondary/emblem) you are cubing. Emblems can't be cubed for %Boss, so you'd aim for lines of %ATT. If you're into bossing, then for weapons/secondaries, you'd want to aim for a mix of %Boss Damage and %ATT or purely %Boss Damage. If you're only going to be hunting regular mobs for the rest of your life, then %ATT and %Total Damage wouldn't be too different, but for utility, aim for strictly %ATT.

And we haven't even considered %Ignore PDR lines yet, so in short, you want to keep whatever potential that is "decent" while maintaining a proper balance in stats. For Paladin and Demon Slayer, if you're into bossing, aim for %Boss lines on regular potential and %ATT lines on bonus potential.

Any idea if there is any cap for boss% or pdr%? Been out of maple for a long time, much to catch up now.

is it me... did total dmg change ... when I look at my self if total dmg and boss dmg are one of the same then should it effect the boss dmg stats in the char stats window too?

when I equip my dojo gloves my boss dmg is 290% when I take it off it drop only by 40% to 250% ... isn't dojo gloves has 60% boss since it has 40% boss dmg and 20% total?

Total and boss are only the same on boss monsters.

Total Damage isn't displayed in the "Boss ATT" window, and it's treated the same as %Boss Damage in calculations.
