Do you think nexon should implement gey marriages?

I don't think you people understand that this is just a game. Like I already said, this game is not only for United States. Nexon America may operate it, but it is called Global Maplestory. This thread was not created for you to voice your opinion of gay marriage in real life, or why you think "those gays" shouldn't be able to get married. This thread is simply a poll to see if people think it should be implemented in a fake game.

On the fact that moms are going to see their 13 year old children standing next to two males kissing:
What about all the 40 year old pedofile women who have cyber sex with these young boys. There is nothing that these moms can prevent. They let their children play this game online. There are many other disturbing things that occur on this game. Why is it so awful for anyone to see people of the same sex together? Why is it so hard to let someone else live their life the way they want to in this game?

I find the whole idea of marriage in MapleStory to be out of place.
The characters in the game do not have anything resembling a normal life. We do not get older, we do not have homes, we do not have children. We also do not have bodily needs - we don't sleep, eat, eliminate, or have sex.
So just exactly what is the point of "marriage" in this context? You pay your Nexon Cash and you get a pretty lovey-dovey animation, a private chat, and a pass for Amoria Party Quest. You do not share a household, you do not raise children, you're not "married" in any sense that parallels real-life. I don't see any logical reason why a couple of characters of the same "gender" can't pay their NX and get their APQ license the same way.

Not to mention that everybody in MapleStory has the same parents - that middle-aged white couple over HHGII - so Maple marriage is incestuous!

However, as mentioned above, gay marriage in Maple would not be a good idea for Nexon. The anti-gay-marriage crowd is much more likely to boycott Nexon over it, than the pro-gay-marriage crowd is likely to boycott over only having heterosexual marriages.

TBH, straight couples could say and do stuff that would be considered inappropiate as it is. <_________<


If you're going to be 13 years old, you should try to grasp the concept of gay marriages. I figure that humans developed (for lack of a better word) the ability to reproduce; whether they wanted to or not is up to the individual.

I'm not religious. I just think if people want to be with a person of their gender, then let them. If you're against it, than you are denying them potential happiness. Yea, hope you feel good about yourself.

It would cause more controversy than Nexon would want to deal with. Imagine a parent looking over her 13 year old kid's shoulder to see two cartoon boys doing to each other and hearts above their heads.

Exactly; controversy is damaging to profits and image. If I remember correctly, gays make up 6% of the American population. Out of those, only some will play MS. Nexon will want to please the 94%, and as someone pointed out, allow something the mainstream considers "deviant" and the mainstream will dislike it.

I personally am against gay marriage, not out of homophobia but because I believe in the traditional definition of the marriage. To the best of my understanding civil unions and the like can be shaped to provide most of the benefits of marriage. Creative thinking can replicate gay marriage on MS, (marriage to mules combined with a Friendship ring.) For that reason I don't think all the controversy would be warranted.

I dont see the huge deal. Even IRL the controversy is wayyyyyy overboard. In maple as well? Christ, let them have it, theyre not going to form an army and try to permanently plug up the worlds ability to reproduce or something...

Preventing gay marriage, IMO, is just idiocy... Telling a gay guy he cant marry a guy wont make him suddenly turn straight again to reproduce normally. If hes not going to reproduce normally, hes not going to reproduce normally again just because you tell him what he is doing is wrong, even though it isnt.

but then if gay marriage is allowed, then that would mean that they have to modify the Apq couple's stage since currently it's 3 girls and 3 guys, but if they allow gay marriage in the game, that could possibly mess up the bonus stage. This is because they would either have to modify or remove one of the bonus stages since then nexon would have to consider if it was 2 gay couples and 1 straight couple, 1 gay couple and 2 straight couples, 3 straight couples, or even 3 gay couples.
But i think if gay marriages are allowed, then it could happen.

A scenerio that hasn't been discussed yet: two hetero people who are friends and want to get married solely for the APQ, but can't because their characters are the same gender.

I'm a guy with a guy character in game and married a girl character who happens to be played by a guy IRL. Am I gay? No, I just wanted to APQ. I know lots of people in the same situation.

But like has been said, gay marriage in game will never happen, simply because there's too much controversy over it. Besides that, the immature crowd would go crazy over this.

GMS has enough issues already.

I have no objections against gay marriage. As long as people don't infringe on other people's rights, then I have no complaints.

I'm for gay marriages IRL, but the idea of it happening in MS before it becomes more acceptable in the real world is just unrealistic. It would start so much pomegranate it's not even worth it.

And Fable was MUCH worse than MS! I mean, come on, one of the main story quests involved getting into a woman's bedroom and sleeping with her for capital gains. And I always found it amusing that a man could suggest to the two of you "have a nice lie-down together."

Im all for it, whatever makes you happy.

However, Nexon not putting it in their game isnt really saying they're against it per se, their just covering their own backs as I see it.

The only people who are really against it are religious extremists, and those are the last people you want against you. Yeah, its a shame its not in the game as of now, but as a company Nexon would probably hurt themselves more to add it, its a shame, but thats the way it is =\

I am NOT homophobic. I'd say half or over half of my best friends are gay.

However, why do we need gay marriages in MS? It's just going to cause a fuss from those that don't like it. Some people/ groups are REALLY against it. It will cause problems for Nexon, and problems for those that go ahead with it.
What I can't figure out is why your rl preferences even matter in an online game. Male/ Female has always been the traditional idea of marriage, why not just stick with it, like I said, this is just a game
