Do you think nexon should implement gey marriages?
#1
I am gay. I have happily found a gay male that plays a girl character. We are now married. But what about the other people in MapleStory who are gay? Just a poll.

I voted no, even though I'm all for it. I think Nexon will do it as soon as Prop 8 is appealed f3. As of now, gay marriages are prohibited, therefore, in my opinion, nexon's not going to do it.

I don't see anything wrong with it, personally. I also don't see why people get offended by it, unless the gay couple is doing inappropriate things, or saying inappropriate things in public where children are around.

Honestly, I couldn't care less. Unlike most people, I don't see a point in bashing homosexuals.

I don't really care myself. As long as these Gay Marriages don't affect us in a negative way (not sure how they would), then why not?

This game has nothing to do with that o.O... If you are voting because of some law in some country, that is not what this is about. This is about ones opinion on the matter. Remember this is Global Maple Story not United States Maple Story. Just because the United States are behind in their ways, doesn't mean a video game should be restricted.

Do I think they should? Absolutely. Will they change it? Probably not. At least, not in GMS. Let's not forget GMS' main demographic are Americans, and gay marriage is a highly controversial issue these days. It's only legal in two states, and a handful of others make provisions for civil unions or domestic partnerships. It is, however, legal in Canada. Nonetheless, I'm willing to bet that Nexon could expect to lose players if same-sex marriages were allowed, because some players views or their parents' views are that extreme. And we all know Nexon is after the bottom line.

That could go for heterosexual couples as well. I have always been in favor of equal marriages. However, I do understand that from religious standpoint, that some are not comfortable with it, because the Bible does indicate marriage is to be between a man and a woman. Nonetheless, from a civil and legal standpoint, that's no excuse not to allow some officially recognized form of partnership that allows same-sex couple to enjoy the same benefits a heterosexual couple who are committed to each other are afforded.

The only visible aspect of gay marriage is the little doves floating around your head when you're near your partner.

Anything "inappropriate" would involve the players talking or acting, which they don't need marriage for :f6: I see no problem with it.

Isn't gay marriage illegal in America anyways?

Man, I'd love gay marriage in Maple, but I wouldn't wanna marry a guy in Maple cos like, I can just get a guy IRL.

I'm not against gay marriage. However, allowing this would have little kids swarming with

"YOU *&^*&(^*& GAYTARD!!!"

I would be more concerned about the adults that would ridicule the game and call for it to be banned because of their homophobic ideals. I would a certain homophobic church to even make a website against this. Frown

Bingo. Precisely the reason why Nexon probably wouldn't even entertain the thought. I can also imagine a massive boycotting of NX cards in stores and/or pressure to remove them altogether in locations where an anti-gay sentiment is more prevalent.

And for the record, in the US, gay marriage is currently left up to each state to pass legislation. In Massachusetts and Connecticut, marriages are legal. In a handful of other states (Vermont for example) "civil unions" are legal, but your rights as a couple are slightly limited. In a few other states, there are laws allowing gays to be joined, but imposing further limitations. The rest of the states (and Puerto Rico) have actually passed legislation AGAINST gay marriage, in so much that even if you got married in another state, your marriage may not even be legally recognized in your home state. I think that's absolutely ludicrious honestly, and it's high time that it became a national issue rather than left up to the states (along with fair voting practices that aren't out to punish third-party candidates, but that's a whole other discussion.)

It would cause more controversy than Nexon would want to deal with. Imagine a parent looking over her 13 year old kid's shoulder to see two cartoon boys doing Rolleyes to each other and hearts above their heads.

I personally have no problem allowing gay marriage in Maple. But it will never happen, it's a bad idea for Nexon to implement it. It would cause too much
disagreement among people and bring unwanted attention. They are a business after all.

Now, if we're going to bring 'religion' into this, I just want to be clear on this, and say that I am Agnostic. I don't see how a Bible can tell whether one or another can live his or her life. Quote:

Quote:"Not everything is written in stone."

Or, also "The future is never written in stone.", both statements are true. You can't live your life based on what someone / something thinks. Even IF it's a higher-up being. I think that's pure idiocy to be against gay marriages just because of a book.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not gay. I'm quite straight, if you've known me in-game, I'm probably one of the biggest straight-perverts you'll ever meet! But I just find it demoralizing to bash another because of her or his sexuality, that seriously irks me off.

they should have had it implemented from the beginning, but it's impossible to add it now from a business standpoint. unfortunately the issue is just too controversial.

for the sake of not causing a pomegranatestorm, I voted no.

Personally, I'm against gay marriage, but that's not the issue at hand. I think the other guys hit the nail on the head, by pointing out how much dissent this could cause. But if they ever DID implement it in game, I'd have no objections, simply because there must be a real demand for them to implement it.

What would Fox say? "A game directed at children is being used to brainwash children and teenagers that homosexual marriage is OK. Is this what America needs? NOW FOR THE O'REILLY FACTOR!" ... You're just setting yourselves up.
