Hacking becoming more... generally accepted?
#21
I'll take the same hard line cause I've had since I started playing this game and understanding how it works: If they want to hack, they should be permanently banned for any and all offenses.

I recall when hackers CC'd all the time or tried to hide their actions and pretend to be legit, because the community as a whole recognized that hacking was a huge imbalance in fairness.

Now hackers don't even care, and most don't get banned even when they do hack.

For me personally, it's a choice of the intentions of the game: If the developers wanted us to have hacks, they would have given us meso vac or whatever in game. Thus using hacks violates the spirit of the game.

If I were in the ability to do so, all hackers would have their accounts permanently banned and deleted, and they would magically be banned from ever making another account again. Mind you the sheer magnitude of the hackers running around and the inability without doing thorough searching in the database by a team of people inside Nexon and such make it impossible to ban them all, and since new hacks are churned out pretty regularly it seems that hackers will never vanish.

I kind of wish Nexon would enforce a splitting of two versions of the game, one where you could hack without consequence and one where all hacking were bannable immediately. Then the hackers could all go have uber-godly damage on their version while those of us who really want to do things the "right" way would have our version sans all the hacking.

I don't care if the actions of the hacker are malicious or not, it still goes against the game and should not be tolerated. If we were intended to just easily get MW30 or Zerk 30 or level super-fast and all that, the bosses developed wouldn't be nearly so hard, or we'd be given the ability to get them beat easily. The idea is to work for such drops that hackers devalue, and while not everyone likes the idea of having to hunt for them, it doesn't mean that things are right as they are.

My two cents at least.

It's not so great a magnitude once you've weeded out the sheep. Frankly, it's not that hard to do. They really just have to care to do it at all. Or one of us at Southperry should come up with some sort of GM impersonation hack ourselves (irony) and play hero of the day.

1/ Pick a GM for the job (or any player, really), pay him $20/hour/day to do "the cleaning".
2/ GM gets into it at a certain time every day, peak hours most preferred, goes into FM, find a meso ad
3/ GM goes: "Sup guys, see this dude? He's gonna vanish in 10 seconds. 9, 8, ..., poof. Okay, know what happened? It could be any of you, and I'll be around daily, so Happy Mapling. :3"

figure of speech bruh bruh.

Generally, I don't despise hackers nor hacking for what they are; I judge the intentions behind such, and form my opinion accordingly. If you download DC hack to disrupt your own char from being stripped naked, I deem it fine. If you use it to monopolize HT and benefit off everyone else's desperation, you are disgusting. Anywhere in between, I don't really care (read: meso farmers who mind their own business but also have a negative impact on the public).

It just gets pretty absurd when you get into a conflict with some guy, and he proceeds to deny you the right to disagree with him.

Not saying it makes them saints, just that many people think of hackers as bad people generally.. Why shun someone because they play the game differently than you do? If they aren't doing anything malicious then why care (which is the attitude many people are developing now). The OP's quoted post basically wants us to go back to the days where we shun them from our maple society as if they're outcasts lol. Also yeah I agree I hate the fact that people get that greedy to monopolize a boss, and dc you for having a mind of your own..

Better than when elitists ran things. They gave us what? A Zakum/HT schedule and drama? I'll take mass deflation over that anyday.

Thanks to hackers, your Zakum runs will get d/c hacked after you've sat in front of an altar for 2+ hours.
Thanks to hackers, HT now has that stupid ticket system and you must solo after 30 people sign up in addition to needing wait an hour before you have to kill HT if you choose to solo.

I liked it better when the elitists ran things.

Atleast with Hackers anybody has a chance to do either boss run. Under elitist the rest of the server was given what? A 2 hour time slot at 4am on Sunday?

Having a chance to do a Zakum run means nothing when you get D/C hacked. And with HT, if you don't sign up as one of the first 30 people after a server check, you can't do a HT run period. Don't be stupid.

But then...there's Hacker elitists...

And yea, I think the main problem is there's two veins of hacking, blue collar botters and then the white collar exploiters (meso exploits, duping, dc hacking?). The problem is the white collar hackers blend a lot easier with an entirely legit community and it's hard to know where one stops and the other begins.

Agreed, i find it funny that someone would rather have hackers around more than "elitists."

Hackers ruin the game in so many ways. You know those unscheduled server checks? The one where you were trying to train, or got the FM spot you wanted? When you can't set up a regular store permit in the more popular FM rooms or at times can't even step foot in the FM?

Yeah...i definitely would rather have hackers than elitists >.> /sarcasm

Yeah it's really changed over the years hasn't it?
I mean I get there's always going to be botters inflating and deflating items in the market, all I really care is that things that are necessary [skill books mainly] aren't kept at the billions they were a long time ago - like how TT30 cost you your soul when 4th job first came out and MW20 used to be hundreds of millions because it was so rare and everyone needed it. That I cant' say I really give a damn about because it just speeds up the natural deflation - Bstep 20 isn't going to be 150m forever, if there's suddenly an influx that cheapens it I see it as no problem because it's something that everyone in a specific class needs and the more affordable it is the less painful it is if you get bad books and fail a ton in a row.
eeeh rambling, when it comes to dealing with items and market value I never gave much of a pineapple. I don't buy from the obvious hacker shops by personal perogative but I do appreciate stuff with bad drop rates being lowered in price by the hacks.
What I do have a problem with are things like IRM, demi, and that christ-awful PG hack that lagged the servers like nobody's business - things that make it impossible as a legit to "advance" in the game. I have no problem with being stuck merching all day but it gets fucking boring after a while and maybe I'd like to go to Red Nose Den 2 - oh wait there's IRM everywhere. [not as much anymore, i haven't seen one in a while but I've been in lower ludi so ymmv] Things like that I've always hated on top of limited maps for certain levels - like how before the MD's in Leafre were released it was fucking impossible to get a map between hackers and high level legits, cause Peak, Skeles and Newties were the only maps.
I don't think ....well I know the hacking isn't nearly as bad, I'm still petrified every time I see a new hack out that it's going to raep the game on the scale that PG hack did but recently hasn't been nearly as bad. It's just a hassle to find maps sometimes and since there's so many alternatives now I'm not as upset.

I just wish there was a way as a legit to do something back. I mean someone tries to take your map and you just KS them out and stuff but how the pineapple do you KS IRM? That's probably the only thing that bothers me anymore.

VirgilDiablo Wrote:personally i don't have that big of a problem with hackers, depending on the context. if it doesn't directly affect me, then i mean i don't support it, but at the same time i'm not going to vocally condemn it either...

-someone botting to 120 - i would never even know
-someone duping items - makes things cheaper for me, and i'm not helping the situation by not buying things that could be duped but might not be. i've still got to have those items. i'm not going to not buy things just because they might be duped, or probably are duped, because there's still legit ones out there.
-meso botters - they generally inflate the pineapple out of everything but a meso is a meso no matter what its worth, it doesn't bother me if i get more or less mesos out of an item because when the meso inflates or deflates, it doesn't affect the value of items individually, except the npc potion cost to equipment cost ratio which isn't really an issue. if i get 500m for an item or 750m for an item because of the state of the meso, i'm still getting the same % of the market meso pool.
-someone hacking and ksing me, someone dcing me, someone killing me with whatever hack - alright that i'm not so passive about.
-someone using the catch and release glitch to give the pink bean bonus to an entire map - i actually right click that away...

of course this doesn't mean i'm cool with any kind of hack, i'm just more passive to some. maybe it's just having played maplestory for as long as i have but now it's almost just like "well, its whatever"
I second this. Botters won't bother me, and I personally don't spend any time in the "market". Theres no economy in this game, it's just a bunch of greedy kids who want more money so they set their own prices, and we the player buy into saying "THATS HOW ITS SUPPOSE TO BE."

dragon knights, dawn warriors, and EQ evans were the only ones that could. a F/P could do something if the damage of the guy was too low though.

I really hate how I missed the profit just because I was too scared to take advantage of pink scrolls, chaos or white scrolls when those were cheap due to exploits/glitches. Now all I see is these exploiters or merchants pricing whites for a goddamn 250m, which clearly is abusing the demand of those in small server like Yellonde. There isn't much competition to keep prices low.

I could almost say that literally all of rich people nowadays have taken advantage of exploit/glitch/hack, whether directly or indirectly. Now, I'm not blaming them. I would have merched with whites too if I had known that Nexon wouldn't react like they didn't with pinks. But they didn't. They didn't do a single thing even though they knew there was millions of illegit items in the FM.

What could they possibly have done? There was nothing they could do to change these things.. Rolling back can have a much bigger impact on things. They don't know which items are illegit and which are legit.. Now what I will say is the exploit during enhancement days those items that are still in the market and being equipped by people and are totally obvious should be deleted. Other than the blatantly obvious items there's nothing they can do about it.

Very true, back then people would spam whisper you, spam chat you just to get you out of a boss because you don't abide by their schedule. The schedule that was only posted on maple related forums. The funniest part about it was not everyone uses maple related forums, how is everyone to know the times? Bosses were made to be first come first serve, nobody has more rights to a boss than anyone else.

Sorry but in my honest opinion, I believe bosses were meant to be a party thing. The fact that nexon has broken maplestory to the point where you don't need anyones (or very little) help to do things doesn't mean a thing. Yes I understand that there are tons of parties out there that can down these bosses is under 20-45minutes but it just goes to show that nexon intended for these things to take time and are stupid in the way they've changed this game in order to make more money. Don't blame hackers for this, blame nexon.

Yes, bosses are a party thing. However, that's just the problem with HT. You cannot go in as a party because of the stupid ticket system unless you happen to be the lucky 30 who happened to sign up first after an SC. And even if you did, after 30 people went in, you are FORCED to solo.

Why was it installed? To combat hackers, which they did a fail job at. Nexon's to blame, but this isn't a case where only one party possesses it all. Hackers take advantage of Nexon's failures, in turn, causing Nexon to make more "fixes" which turn out to be even bigger failures. Change channel glitching? Storage lagging? Guess whose fault it all is. Those are just the minor things, but there's even more.

Agreed, Agreed. In my opinion though the fault still lies with Nexon. They keep failing, get someone who can actually do the job correctly. The first 30 rule to ht is quite stupid and it really doesn't solve anything.. Nexon just needs to get their head out of their asses, they only do these stupid "fixes" to make it seem like they care about anything more than the nexon idea to make them millions off of their deteriorating player base. I mean they even went as far as to unban perma-banned users saying they will give them another chance.. They're so pathetic..
