Such effects has pulled the pineappleing community itself down. I'm being realistic here, most people have always cared most about damage since the start, anyone who says "everyone just cares about their damage now, it was never that way before" clearly hasn't played for very long at all, but never in all my time of playing have people been so judgemental of someone's equipment. There are people who I know are hackers and/or pimentos yet they still accept them as their best friend ever because of the power they yield. Not just power as in equipment, I mean power as in power over players too. Back in the day such people would be ousted from the community and frowned upon by most. /end qoute
This is a quote from a thread in the burning zone and I wanted to bring it up on the general discussion board.
I agree with this and how hacking has become generally more accepted, even to the "higher level" community. Every MMORPG community is pomegranate, until you reach a certain level where you party with other levels regularly. But nowadays, many of these higher levels are "legitimate" players that are hackers with illegitimate obtained gears.
I remember back in 2005 where the higher level community had no tolerance to hackers and hackers only used a vac hack in order to gain fast levels or mesos. They would bot in uncommon maps, until those maps got full by other hackers of course.
Today, there are just too many hacks that give too much power. At least one top guild has a hacker in it with a d/c hack to either use it against someone they don't like or to defend their guild. Duping and Meso exploits made people greedy. With the addition of white scrolls, cubes and equip enhancement, it just draws in more greed to hackers.
I've also seen people defend hackers saying they "hack for fun", and their intentions is not to hurt other players.
Anyways, I want to know your guys thoughts on this. I'm not really angry at this, I will always play MS how I have been playing it. I just came back from MS around 2008 and the community have changed a lot.
Read this on sleepywood and really agreed with it. I quit after evans came out and returned just before mechanics. Sure nexon messes up with exploits, stacking rings etc. but I've found alot more people are ok with partaking in such things.
Right now WS's are dirt cheap in Broa and most legits don't care why, they just buy them up.
Alot of the MW30s for sale were not aquired legitimately, but as one person I spoke to in game about it put it "if I don't buy it someone else will".
idk what do you guys thing? (sorry if this should be in the "angry dome" section)

It really is the truth.
It's because people see others getting away with it, so they think it's okay. Like Locked said in another thread, Humans do what benefits them the most, especially if they can get away with it scott-free, which is what most people see with hackers in Maple today. =/

i myself, and pretty sure several others have benefitted from hackers in one way or another, wether we want to admit it or not.
i would have never been able to afford a Czak, or a Berzerk 30, if it weren't for them, probably even more things i wasn't even aware of. in a sense hackers help the less funded players while damaging the more funded.
but then there's stuff like dc hacks, used out of spite and sheer malice, or the meso botters, which make the items so expensive in the first place.
i swear, sometimes i myself would like to have a DC account, i find so many botters by just walking around, it's not even funny. at least hackers back then where ashamed of doing it and tried not to get caught, today? everyone and their mother knows who are hackers, and you still see them running around.

Ever since Level 200s become common, I stopped caring about hackers who hack for levels or money, so long as it doesn't effect me. However some hackers such as DC hackers or users that hack just to inconvenience others still get to me. It also isn't the greatest news to hear the first death of a major boss in a server was from the use of hacks.
I suppose it also annoys me when hackers lie about hacking, but that's more about their personality than their actions.

I still can't stand hackers, especially with all this duping and breaking the economy. Meso:NX rates made MTSing rather painful for me, so I'm just hanging on to my money until that goes down a bit (I remember when 1:8-1:10 was the standard rate, now it's close to 1:20...). Sure, they made some things cheaper, but they generally lowered the worth of mesos.
I also don't care about hackers in the sense that I just ignore them but when they show off their "godly" gear, that just irritates me because they act like they're hot stuff for it. :|

personally i don't have that big of a problem with hackers, depending on the context. if it doesn't directly affect me, then i mean i don't support it, but at the same time i'm not going to vocally condemn it either...
-someone botting to 120 - i would never even know
-someone duping items - makes things cheaper for me, and i'm not helping the situation by not buying things that could be duped but might not be. i've still got to have those items. i'm not going to not buy things just because they might be duped, or probably are duped, because there's still legit ones out there.
-meso botters - they generally inflate the pineapple out of everything but a meso is a meso no matter what its worth, it doesn't bother me if i get more or less mesos out of an item because when the meso inflates or deflates, it doesn't affect the value of items individually, except the npc potion cost to equipment cost ratio which isn't really an issue. if i get 500m for an item or 750m for an item because of the state of the meso, i'm still getting the same % of the market meso pool.
-someone hacking and ksing me, someone dcing me, someone killing me with whatever hack - alright that i'm not so passive about.
-someone using the catch and release glitch to give the pink bean bonus to an entire map - i actually right click that away...
of course this doesn't mean i'm cool with any kind of hack, i'm just more passive to some. maybe it's just having played maplestory for as long as i have but now it's almost just like "well, its whatever"

I would say expected, rather than accepted.
People have always benefited from hackers, so the attitude's generally been the same. It's what we expect that's changed.

I don't really care unless it's a huge problem or something. Really I just want to play the game and have fun. Someone's elses actions shouldn't influence my fun in the game unless it is directly affecting me or something.

I think its more on the grounds that the people who cared has got so tired about it that they dont care anymore. At least for me thats it.
However, hacking has got so ridiculous nowadays with all the duping, d/c hacking and meso farming that I'm starting to care again.
Excluding hackers from our society in game though is too hard. People can hack all they want on an account and then just get a name change while they are still unknown, or hack all they want and then move to another server and start new. Heck, they can hack and make all the money they want, start a new account, then play legitly using all the hacked funs and get to high lvl in no time.
Identifying a hackers nowaydays is also very hard. In the past, things like fame, a weird name or no NX while being unknown would make of that person suspicious. Nowadays everyone has little to no fame, unknown names pop up everyday and even legits make use of hacked gear.
I wish there was a solution to this, but as long as there's a real life market for mesos and items this will never stop.

Yea, I saw this too. I quit for a long time due to being in KMS. I come back for big bang and realize how many people are accepted with being illegitimately funded as long as you aren't hacking on the "legit" character. I thought this was beyond stupid.
Then I join some CWKPQ parties and they're all okay with a Wild Hunter using the PB Buff.

If Nexon can't keep up with hackers/ be arsed to handle them more effectively; why waste energy caring?
After several years that's become my stance. I personally am don't ask, don't tell with it, i just would rather not know.
I am somewhat dissapointed with the value of mesos though, specially when compared to the price of common 60% scroll drops to... well, everything good. while dupers could considerably be a 'self-counter' to their damage: consider the players who legitly find/trying to sell a valuable item that gets mass duped right around the same time, they're screwed over.

Thanks.
I just found a friend from 5 years ago from browsing that Sleepywood thread.
On topic: After awhile, you just get used to the hacking. I guess people accept it cause there's not much else we can do.

Honestly, I've come to the conclusion of "I just don't care anymore". It's highly expected and accepted at the same time. They do good and bad things at the same time unfortunately, and we just have to accept it.
I will admit that without the hackers doing such things as of today and in the past, I wouldn't be in possession of a couple items right now, mainly my 3line CHTP that I got for an extremely cheap price during the HT Hack era.

Problem with hackers: They devalue anything you can obtain ingame.
This leads, of course, to NX inflation... NX is worth more, items/mesos are worth less.
It's okay if you regularly charge up some NX, but it sucks ass if you're trying to earn money ingame.
Of course, trading between one ingame item and another still works, because they're equally devalued. But good luck trading them for NX...
For me it's mostly a question of fairness: I'd prefer the game to be in a position where all players have equal opportunity. Hacking ruins that, because you get this spectrum from 100% straightlace (never buy items from other players) to 100% hacking (never legit??) With people who buy hacked items, hunt them on hacked characters, etc. in the middle.

I never saw the big deal with hacking unless it was malicious such as DC hacks. The way I see it, hacks are basically cheat codes for an online game.. Like a few have already mentioned many people wouldnt even have been able to afford some of the gear they have without the existance of hackers.. Hell, I know hackers who help out their friends by giving them free items so their friends can further enjoy the game..

Meh.
I started playing when hacking was already prominent, and I don't hate em.
This is my first MMORPG, and I find this all fascinating.
The only hackers that really concern me are the people that are 1337 enough to get yer email password and steal yer account, and the crazies that will try to whisp DC you for the rest of yer life because you wouldn't hand over yer gacha that Nexon smartly broadcast to every hacker in the world.
And the worst thing is that if you don't wanna be DC hacked, you gotta basically hack yerself, you have to be using something that can block packets...
So anyway, While I wont stop myself from being DC hacked, I also on the other hand, will not unclick that Pink Bean buff.
The way I see it, if I am forced to accept the bad, because I play by the rules, then if the opportunity for something cool to happen to me arises, and I'm still playing by the rules, well I will take it.

I only saw two people actually talk about the Pink Bean buff, so I don't know why you're referring to 'everyone'.
Chill out.

because it doesn't stack with hex of the beholder, and makes me lose 25 w.attk, i hate it
/totallymissingthepoint.
i also have reached the point of "i just don't really care" i always played mostly for fun, still do, however, the fun has gone from leveling with my pals to "let's see what new crazy crap these hackers can pull out" and "guess the rollback"
anyone remembers the chief tatamo hacking stuff last year? how many rollbacks where then? 5~7 i think? it was both hilarious and annoying
EDIT: oh, i also loved and had so much fun KSing wild hackers at jesters, or throwing them off the ropes with my DB, i even got DC hacked once! (first time i have been a specific target for a DC hack, woo!)

And that makes them saints.... how?
Generally, I don't despise hackers nor hacking for what they are; I judge the intentions behind such, and form my opinion accordingly. If you download DC hack to disrupt your own char from being stripped naked, I deem it fine. If you use it to monopolize HT and benefit off everyone else's desperation, you are disgusting. Anywhere in between, I don't really care (read: meso farmers who mind their own business but also have a negative impact on the public).
It just gets pretty absurd when you get into a conflict with some guy, and he proceeds to deny you the right to disagree with him.
