Australia, North America, and Africa(if any) are the only areas that are even supposed to be playing this version.
Global doesn't mean worldwide in this case. It refers to all areas that do not have a regional version of their own to play.
Global does mean worldwide, it was the purpose of this version when wizet opened it, before and some time after Nexon took over, but after more and more regional versions of MS were opened decided it would be easier to administrate and would help the other versions to restrict this one just for Americica. People from all america (idk about Brazil) still can create accounts for GMS.
People just keep calling it GMS because that's been its name for the pass 6 or 7 years. But it should be called AMS.

After the poll is done, I'm comparing it with "that other site". And then guesstimate the percentage of players from North America.

Considering there are likely a few people on Southperry that do remember the times during beta that we did actually have a regional map screen to choose which server to join. Considering the fact that while gMS is technically older in terms of release time; both gMS & MapleSEA have the distinction of being from the same relative period in beta testing with a single codebase that had a nice little divergence. Feel free to chime up if you have a little more to add off my post in historical terms.

But didn't they change it just for NA and Oceania?
NEXON Wrote:To register for a Nexon Passport, you must live in the United States, Canada, and Oceania. Access to Nexon America games is not supported outside these regions. And I think is true since I have seen at least a couple times people asking how they can make an account for gMS if they're living in the rest of the Americas.

People from the Middle East (and presumably Africa, although I can't remember meeting any Africans in-game) can still create accounts and play normally. There's no regional version for us, so we play "Global".

Reading Mr. Geography's post made me think you voted for North America, so I voted Central America for you, Karen, thinking the numbers would be the same. Then I checked who voted what and saw you voted for Africa/Other xD
Oh well, for accuracy's sake, Vancouver, BC, Canada here.

I'm actually personally curious myself as to how many people here are from a country that isn't US/Canada/Europe. You're really from St. Maarten MariaColette? And old friend of mine lives there too!
Does that mean you're a St. Maartian now? Since they're an independent nation since last year?
Or can you still call yourself Dutch since they're still part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands? xD

First of all the Caribbean is definitely located in North America. Secondly, Europe is ~not a country. [Credentials; Studying for a Geography undergrad BA at UoN, UK].
My objective here was to instill an awareness of how geography is IMPORTANT, as well as to bring to common attention how terrible the teaching of geography is in most of North America (including the Caribbean). No hate, i blame society- not you. Well actually, some parts of the Caribbean are European too (English / Dutch / French).

You didn't sound hostile, Karen. Actually, that post bothered me a little, well, as a good geography student like you already wanted everyone to know you are, you should also be aware that not all the Caribbean is a portion of the North American continent, like Devil has stated already.
Second, of course knowledge is something important and interesting. But it's not really nice to come in and go "Excuse me, lady, you just made some ridiculous unexcusable mistakes, so, let me correct you for the common knowledge, but i don't blame you for doing it, i blame all the educational system from where you live from teaching you the wrong information enough for you to make such mistake".
Seriously? I doubt it wasn't clear enough that her previous post was refering to Europe as any European Countries, refering to the poll's focus. Although it sounded like what you've been saying, her intention was pretty clear. We aren't really discussing geography in this thread, because if we were, being an American would refer to any of the first 3 options, but we can clearly see it's different from that.
We all know how important Geography is, but there was absolutely no need for such a tone in that post, much less a public correction for something everyone already understood. It may be only me, but the tone in your post didn't really sound any good. Not intending to troll, much far than that, but seriously, not only had an elitist tone but was total and completely unnecessary. The majority of the ones who read that already noticed what she wanted to say with Europe, there was absolutely no need to start a discussion about common mistakes or how bad the North American education system is. Sincerely, that was too much off-topic.

Haha, that's pretty dang cool! I actually met someone in my server who was from St. Maarten as well just by seeing his IGN (eventually came up to him and asked him and I was quite surprised). Out of curiosity, did your friend graduate from high school and came to the Netherlands? If so, he probably graduated from my high school, haha.
I still consider myself Dutch, mostly because I hadn't updated my passport since the independence. I'm currently in Florida for college, so. :b

Oh and my friend is really an old friend, meaning, he moved to St. Maarten several years ago, but yeah, most likely he was on the same high school as you!
And hmmm, I wonder if your passport will get updated, since I just checked mine, and it says "Verenigd Koninkrijk der Nederlanden", well I guess you can keep yours then!
So yeah, you're still Dutch, just in another country, on the other side of the world, far far away!
